We are so blessed to have wonderful friends and family in our lives. Our wedding day just wouldn't be the same without y'all. Here are the men and women of our wedding party. Check back later for our house party and usher bios!
Grant Boatwright is my bro and my right hand man. My brother is my best friend and one of my mentors, even though he does not know it. His faith and passion for life (especially the outdoors) is one of the things I love most about him. He just finished teaching English with his wife Jashley in South Korea, and is now traveling through Australia and California before coming back to Texas. A funny thing about my brother is that he (like all my cousins) does voices. He is particularly good at one of the old Jack in the Box commercials, “The Earl of Sandwich”.
Fate brought sweet Jashley and I together. I met my future sister-in-law(in-law) soon after I moved to Fort Worth because she was dating Zach's brother Grant. We spent a lot of time together since 2007 and grew very close while we dreamed of the day we would someday be family. Even only keeping in touch via Skype these days, I cherish our friendship. Jashley is unique, adventurous and a romantic at heart. She encourages and inspires me in both my faith and in life. She enjoys running, photography and painting and is wholehearted in everything she does. She just finished a year in South Korea teaching English with Grant, and I look forward to their return at the end of September.
I've been friends with Faith my entire life. Our parents were friends long before we were born. Faith has been my homeschool convention and theme park partner in crime, fellow country music lover, exercising motivator and continues to be one of my very best friends. Faith is a talented graphic artist at Texas Trophy Hunter's magazine in San Antonio and I couldn't get through the workday without a chat with the girl who can always make me laugh. Faith is an outstanding photographer and enjoys snapping pics whenever she gets the chance. She's the most driven person I know, evident in everything she does, including triathlons and half-marathons. We survived our 10K together in August!
Stephanie and I became acquainted through a mutual friend when we were young, but we really became friends once we were roommates our first year at A&M in the dorms. Stephanie is creative, artistic, loves to travel like me and we share an appreciation for my favorite movie- Pride and Prejudice, probably thanks to her watching the long one multiple times in our room! :-) She introduced me to coffee, for which I'm forever grateful! Stephanie is an interior designer, but she's currently traveling the world with her photographer husband Taylor.
Katie and I knew each other as wee King's Kids at Wayside Chapel and we also took piano lessons from the same teacher. Mutually close friends with Stephanie Gahm, we never connected through college, but after we both graduated in December '06 and moved to Dallas for our "grown up" jobs, we started hanging out and discovered a wonderful commonality. Katie is a traveler, art lover and artist, wordsmith and wonderful friend. The UT grad is an amazing public relations woman and is married to a Maroon-blooded Aggie named Brad.
Thursday nights out in College Station, you could be sure to find Sarah and I at the Hall of Fame with our posse dancing up a storm. Sarah is a great friend and we've grown even closer since graduation from A&M. With her caring heart and devotion to her friends, I know I'm lucky to have Sarah in my life. We've walked the last two years with our fiance's together--beginning dating and getting engaged within just a few months of each other. Sarah lives in San Antonio and teaches middle school, and I'm happy to be a bridesmaid for her when she marries her ag teacher fiance Boot next summer.
I'm eternally grateful to Jashley for introducing me to her best friend Alicia. Almost instantaneously after meeting, Alicia and I discovered a plethora of common interests. I think I can say we are kindred spirits--at the least, we're practically twins. Alicia knows how to develop a friendship and we've grown very close. Always ready to watch our favorite period piece movie or a hilarious Youtube video, I'm blessed to count Alicia as a friend. Alicia has a heart for Africa and her Lord, a love of beatles music and all things Jane Austen, and she also holds a journalism degree from Baylor. She works for Chuck Swindoll these days as a transcriptionist.
My soon-to-be cousin Stacey and I hit it off immediately after meeting New Year's Day 2008, soon after she and Brandon Tompkins started dating. Stacey is the most fashionable girl I know with a shared love of Europe, but her country charm is infectious. I'm pretty sure we were destined to be friends, and I love spending girl time with her. Stacey has a big heart and is very caring, and Brandon is lucky to have her. Stacey is a ladies' dresses buyers assistant at JCPenney's and will be marrying Brandon this November.
Renee is my mom's cousin, and the closest thing I've had to a big sister! She took me to the rodeo when I was young, where I rode my first pony at age 4 and I've been horse crazy ever since. She taught me French from her college notes when I was little, which has turned into a love for the language and the country. Renee has always been there when I needed her with great advice. Married to her husband Reuben, Renee runs her own catering company while taking care of her three boys.
Jonathan Hassell is one of my confidants. He is a very caring and passionate person with sound advice. He and I have had several near-death experiences while working together. Truly, all of us guy cousins have had similar instances, but Jonathan and I have shared quite a few. Along with the other cousins he takes part and dishing out the loving insults. I do believe he is the instigator when it comes to these insults. He is one of the adventures of the family. From a finance degree to becoming an EMT; he now is taking up his residency in Galveston, Texas. One of his deepest desires is to one day have a goat as a pet.
Jason Tompkins is the older brother of Brandon Tompkins. Jason and I are very close and we have a unique relationship. Other than the fact that he and I are very close, he and I banter all the time. I think it is our goal to get on each other’s nerves by trading dry-humored insults. It is just our way of expressing our love for each other. I mean, all the cousins do this but Jason and I do it frequently. His job consists of helping others find jobs. He enjoys writing scripts for movies, playing the guitar, and riding his motorcycle. He is the wild man of the bunch. Jason secretly likes chasing Sasquatch while riding my dads tricycle, and despises the phrase “we will just play it by ear!” He just got engaged to his fiancee Stephanie and they'll be married next June.
Brandon Tompkins is the youngest of the cousins, and one of the most fashionable guys I know. He and I have very similar attributes and he is, of course, one of my closest of kin. Brandon graduated this past year from UNT and now currently holds down the fort at the Hollister at the North Park Mall in Dallas. He got engaged this past year as well and will be married before me. Brandon has an obsession for chocolate chip cookies. He is aka the “Cookie Monster,” and my Mimi is the Hamburgler!
Preston Gorman and I are lifelong friends. He is a Fire Fighter and a Paramedic for Houston’s fire department. He works long hours and constantly saves lives. Preston is truly a ladies' man even though he might not know his full abilities. I tell you what, this man can cut a rug-he is quite a good dancer.
Ross Gorman is another lifelong friend. He is brother to Preston Gorman. Ross Gorman is one of Americas fine Marines. He has done 2 tours to Iraq. He recently graduated from Texas A&M. Ross is one of my most passionate friends when it comes to his faith and fitness. I can always count on him for a solid prayer and a good workout.
Tommy Hernandez is my one of my closest and best friends. He currently helps run one of the Starbucks in Midlothian. He consistently provides me with the "go juice" I need every morning. He is also a great artist. Tommy just married his Army wife Ashley and they have moved to Virginia. He and I have had many adventures throughout our high school and college years. Some of my best memories are of us in his I-Rock Z Camero. Yeah, we used haul tail in that thing. Tommy also has the Adam Sandler wave.
Drew Jones is my business partner and one of my closest friends. He is currently developing D-Jones Tailored Collection into an amazing company. He often likes to take long drives late at night from various colleges, and for some funny reason he like to take me along. Drew also has this obsession with Subway. It seems that every time he wants something to eat on the road he chooses Subway. Drew is married to a midwife named Sara.
