David & Rachel

Our Story

How We Met:

Kat's Version

Dave and I met on my eighteenth birthday and the second day of school at U of R. My parents and friends had given me two huge birthday cakes, which definitely did not fit in my cube fridge. The girls and I figured we had to give the cake away and meet some people in the process. During this process, Katie and Liz left and I kept passing out cake to our hall. Dave lived in the hall over, when I got to his room he was playing video games, and I offered him some cake. Dave, as shy as he was, couldn't even tell me his name. So until that night, I thought it was Ken (his roommate) since the names Ken and Dave were on the door, and he didn't look like a Dave. That night some people from my hall and Dave's hall went out for my birthday. We crammed seven people in the back of a cab, and I was fortunate enough to sit on Ken/Dave's lap. (This was actually done by careful planning and waiting until he got in the cab) The rest is history...

Dave's Version

Well, pretty much the same except the way I remember it, I never heard her ask me my name, but I admit that I was more than a little tongue-tied the first time I met Kat.

The Proposal

The Proposal

As a graduation present, Dave, his sister Rachel, my sister Justine, and I went to the Philippines. On June 15, Dave, Rachel, Justine, Mom, three cousins, and my aunt were in Boracay, a little piece of paradise. In the morning, my mom said to be showered and ready for dinner by 6:30. That day we went SCUBA diving and spent the day on the beach. Around sunset Dave said he had a surprise for me, and we took a sunset sailboat ride around the island. When we got back to the beach, he asked if I wanted to take a walk. We walked for a little while and stopped to (propose) talk. I was completely clueless and asked, in the middle of his proposal, if we should take showers since we had to be ready for dinner soon. Dave responded with "Let's just stay out here ten more minutes?" In this ten minute span, I went to hug him and he yanked my hand away from his pocket, and I kind of started to get a clue. A few minutes later, Dave proposed in the surf at sunset! I was utterly shocked, since I had assumed he would ask when we were in Paris. We went back to the hotel to tell everyone (except mom and Rachel who already knew). Justine started bawling and my cousin asked why we didn't tell them before so we could take pictures and demanded a re-do to document the moment. I couldn't ask for anything better than a romantic proposal and being there with my fabulous family.
