Adam & Johanna

Teen Street

Sunday December 7, 2008 – Saturday December 13, 2008

Teen Street is a camp for teens in South Africa.  Adam and I were counselors for a group of girls and a group of boys.  I (Jo) had six older girls (18-19 year olds) and Adam had five (13-14 year olds).  My group was challenging at times and getting them to open up was difficult.  They did not have much respect for each other or for me and at times I was very frustrated.  I had a great conversation with one of my girls though about her identity and finding it in God alone.  Adam enjoyed his group of little guys and they seemed to bond really well during the week.  The week was more like a “Bible boot-camp” than what I was thinking it would be like.  The entire morning consisted of a morning meeting, a quiet time and then a group Bible study.  Overall, it was a great week for the teens and Adam and I enjoyed being counselors.  One other thing, Adam and I received a call that our bank account has been closed because we are on a visitor’s visa.  Just when we think we are getting somewhere, there is another set back.  We are anxiously awaiting our visitors from home that will make this holiday season a special one.

We finally have a bank account!  After another three hours of paperwork and waiting, the country of South Africa has issued us a bank account.  Oh the fun of living in a foreign country, we can now sympathize much more with foreigners who are trying to get things done in America.  It can be difficult at times.
