We first met at a very classy establishment known as Mississippi Nights which is a live music venue in St. Louis on the landing. It was Feb. 7, 2003 and HomeGrown and Riddlin Kids were playing...and a no-name band at the time called All-American Rejects was the opener! Amy's favorite thing to do was go to concerts, so she was at this one by herself while Dustin was there with a group of his friends from AT&T. So they ended up talking for a bit there and exchanged info since Amy was so excited to meet other young people from work. Since we lived close to each other, we started doing more and more things together...especially once March Madness started up. Then our great friendship just blossomed into love! We really are best friends and love to spend time with each other and enjoy so many of the same activites.
We went to Hawaii (Waikiki Beach) last September for a vacation. Amy didn't want to get her hopes up too high that there would be a proposal, but she was fairly certain it was going to happen. Dustin had been looking at rings (for quite a while) and then when we talked about scheduling the vacation he needed for it to be after a certain date (basically the date the ring was going to come in or be done)! We arrived in Waikiki on a Saturday and we really didn't have any set plans for the week-just was going to play each day by ear with what we felt like doing. So on Sunday we woke up and decided to just sorta relax and get to know the area. We decided it would be fun to make a picnic and eat dinner on the beach that night and watch the sunset and hangout there. Amy wondered if maybe this would be "the" night, but then thought there was no way he'd propose right off the get-go...he'd make her sweat it out. But she was wrong! We didn't even get started on the food and dustin "proposed" by getting out the box and plopping it down in front of Amy. No speech, No "will you marry me", etc. So Amy nervously sat there for what felt like at least 10 minutes too scared to look in the box for fear that Dustin had put together some horrifying looking ring. As we were sitting there he goes on to tell me how he designed this ring himself and the jewelers have never seen anything like it. Okay, that does not sound too good or positive! But she opened the box and absolultely LOVED it! So it was a great start to one of our favorite vacations ever!
