If you’re reading this blog, I’m going to go ahead and assume that you are, in some way or another, involved in planning a wedding (or at the very least daydreaming about planning a wedding). And if you are planning a wedding – I’m going to make another assumption here – my guess is that you have some experience with one very specific experience: stress.
It’s easy to succumb to stress. I think most of us can admit that we have experienced stress in our lives (especially during the holidays). And I would like to submit that maybe, just maybe, planning a wedding can be a large source of stress.
So what do we do about it? This stressful wedding planning thing – because I wouldn’t even dream of suggesting you give it up – must be managed. And because it just so happens that I am practically the queen of stressing out (I’m still working on perfecting this stress management thing), I have a few ideas to share with you:
1. Make lists. This could be a shout-out to my own personal affinity for list-making, but it may also be one of the best stress-relievers I’ve found. A master checklist for planning your wedding not only helps you put all your tasks in one place; it gives you the chance to cross them off one by one with a big red pen.
2. Delegate. Confession: I am awful at this one. But it is so incredibly helpful in both accomplishing tasks and putting a wedding-planning mind at ease. The people around you are not only excited to help, they’re also fully capable of providing that help. Believe it.
3. Breathe. Do your best to give yourself some time each week (or maybe even each day) where you don’t think about wedding planning. Spend time with your fiancé without talking about colors or flowers or cocktails. Take a walk. Hang out with your friends. Just don’t talk about weddings.
