Ask the Editor: Processional Music

I really hate the traditional “Here Comes the Bride” and would prefer to play something else. Is that allowed? Elise, Montgomery, AL

You can play anything you want. If you are concerned about people knowing it is time to stand for your entrance, mention your processional song in the program. Your song should be a little grand or dramatic in comparison to the other music in the ceremony. Choose a piece of music that has significance to you. There is plenty of pretty music out there, make sure that your selection is symbolic or meaningful to who you are. Many entrance songs are classical, but don’t be afraid to think outside of the box. If you would prefer instrumental, but love a popular pop song, see if your ceremony musician can arrange something for you. Movie scores can also be great for processionals (maybe even one from the first date, etc).
