Ask the Editor: When should I send my invitations?

I am getting married in July, and I know that there are several other weddings this summer that my friends may be attending.  I want to give people plenty of notice, so when should I mail my invitations?—Parker, Boise, ID

The standard rule for mailing out wedding invitations is 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding date.  Due to all the last minute head counts you may need for various vendors, do not give yourself any less than 6 weeks.   Especially if you haven’t sent save the dates, you should give at least 8 weeks to allow for travel arrangements and any time off from work that your guests may need to schedule to attend.  For the busy summer wedding season, in particular, aim more towards 8 weeks of notice.
