Can you have a traditional ceremony after a courthouse wedding?

Q:

My daughter and her fiancé are considering going to the courthouse now as opposed to their wedding date of October 18, 2014 because of health insurance. (my daughter doesn’t have any). She still wants to have a wedding and reception next year on her original date. What is the etiquette for this?  Kristi, Illinois

Sarah, says:

Kristi, Everything can still go as planned. Plenty of couples have to marry for legal or financial reasons at a courthouse and then follow it up with a ceremony and reception at another time. It’s the world we live in. Go ahead and plan the wedding and reception as you otherwise would have. Congrats!
