If this wedding weren’t cool enough, they totally sold me with the cotton candy! (Side note: There should be a new wedding rule that every wedding must have cotton candy favors.)Bethany and Todd’s reception is full of some of my favorite party details: mismatched dishes, simple floral centerpieces, generously frosted cupcakes, and plenty of old-fashioned soda bottles. Thank you to the wonderful Ameris Photography for sharing this shabby chic gem with us!
What was your vision for the day? Any DIY projects?
I wanted a shabby chic, countryside themed wedding. I wanted it to be laid back and have the feel of a big family dinner.
I wore my mother’s 32 year old wedding veil and her bracelet from her 16th birthday that my sister also wore on her wedding day
My husband’s great, great grandmother’s 100 year old wedding gown was on display at the reception for guest to see. She was the first bride to marry in Municipality of West Vancouver.
– Cotton candy made as guest favors the night before and night of the wedding
– My Nana’s (Great Grandmother’s) luggage was the card holder
– The mismatched china was collected by my mother and also including both grandparents and great grandparents’ china
– Napkins were stamped with a homemade stamp that said “Buffy + Todd”
– There was a vintage cooler that belongs to my parents with a handmade “help yourself” sign
Did your wedding location hold a specific significance to you?
Not particularly, we just wanted the outdoor countryside feeling. We loved that there was sheep next door, the outdoor tent venue and that you could get a water view from dinner.
What was the most meaningful part of your day?
It was the drive home. Our car was packed to the rim with balloons and rose petals with a huge heart sign on the trunk saying “just married” and tin cans strung along, but it was the first part of the day that we were completely alone as husband and wife and it felt like our life was really beginning.
Did anything funny or out of the ordinary happen?
Driving home, about 30 seconds away from the house we got pulled over by the police. As the female police officer was walking up to the vehicle all we heard her say was “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I thought you were drunk and carrying a fence behind. The tin cans were so loud!” Then she said “Congratulations” and literally ran back to her car.
How did you know your partner was “the one”?
I knew my life would not have as much happiness if he were not in it forever.
Any advice you’d give new brides who are just getting started?
When the day comes don’t let things that go wrong upset you. Things WILL go wrong or not exactly as planned and you have to let it go as hard as it is. Our wedding song completely stopped as I was walking down the aisle and was horrified! Instead of letting it go, I was super frustrated and annoyed and missed out on moments that I should have been enjoying with my husband.
