This Tennessee wedding is just about as sweet as it gets! Held at CJ’s Off the Square and captured by Jessie Holloway, Cait planned a wedding highlighting fun, feminine details. Things to take note off: the different bridesmaid dresses work so well in the bridal party, how gorgeous big white string lights can be, and the most delicious-looking cake (seriously, Cait, can you send me a piece?). Read below for Cait and Joel’s amazing love story.
What was your vision for your wedding?
I had never been the little girl who dreamed about my future wedding when I was growing up. When I got engaged, everything was so new and exciting! I spent hours and hours browsing through wedding blogs and ideas… I came to the conclusion that the main thing I wanted for my wedding was an intimate, fairy-tale/dreamy setting in downtown Franklin, TN — where Joel and I first met and got engaged. I also wanted lots of special touches with burlap, lace, baby’s breath, and lots of dusty pink! My husband is a designer, so he made our programs and table name cards using Photoshop. The table names were all places in Nashville/Franklin that had meaning to us. I also loved chalkboards, especially the one with “our story” written out with significant dates at the entrance of the venue. Amy (my amazing wedding planner) and I put together a photo booth back-drop made of a curtain rod and crepe paper streamers. The photo booth was such a blast — we used my Fuji Instax 210 to take instant photos that people could take one and leave one! Joel has traveled to Haiti before with the Hands and Feet project, so we decided to make a donation in honor of the guests instead of favors.
Did your wedding location hold a specific significance to you?
Yes, absolutely! CJ’s Off the Square was the perfect venue for an intimate fairy-tale wedding AND it is right in the middle of Downtown Franklin. We had been to CJ’s before for events and absolutely loved every aspect about it — from the amazing historic house to the gorgeous garden outside. It is literally the perfect venue for both the ceremony and reception.
Joel and I have a really crazy back story… so the significance of downtown Franklin might make more sense after reading our story: http://www.mywedding.com/joelcait/stories.html
We have definitely been through a lot together and most of our history is in downtown Franklin.
What was the most meaningful part of your day?
This is such a hard question because EVERYTHING about the wedding was so special! But Joel and I both agree that during the ceremony, when Joel’s parents and my parents came up to pray over us probably tops it.
Did anything funny or out of the ordinary happen?
As we were about to cut the cake, someone moved a candle on the mantle which caught the mirror on fire for a few seconds, but someone jumped on it and put it out really quick. It was actually pretty funny! Also, I was super surprised because there were some tiny details I was thinking about but never really said out loud — for instance, I was thinking it would be cute to put little sprigs of baby’s breath with each name tag as people entered — and Amy READ MY MIND! It was crazy! So many little details CJ’s Off the Square put together and made my wedding more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.
How did you know your partner was “the one”?
Going through heartache of watching Joel go through really intense cancer treatment and seeing how faithful to God he was through that time and his true character made me realize that he was undoubtedly the “one” I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
Any advice you’d give new brides who are just getting started?
I would say just take a deep breath and don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. Just make a promise to yourself to chill out and not become a bridezilla. You need to enjoy every moment of this special time of life! We had four months from our engagement to our wedding, so it can be done!
Also, having an amazing wedding planner makes all the difference. Amy at CJ’s Off the Square was seriously like an angel from heaven above. I didn’t have any worries at all because she was so great!!
