Green Bride Guide: Green Destination Wedding Tips

Choose a destination that you and your fiancé would enjoy. Be mindful of the atmosphere, climate, and that some of your guests might be traveling farther than others. This may be a deciding factor on whether or not they attend your nuptials. Keep your guest list to a minimum by only inviting immediate family and close friends which can also minimize costs, miles traveled and waste.

Give your guests enough notice to make their own travel arrangements. Reduce your effect on the environment and purchase carbon offsets through your airline if available. Look for wind or solar powered and ecotourism activities for you and your guests to do together in the days leading up to your nuptials such as bird watching, safaris, or kayaking.

Consider a destination wedding venue during the offseason which may not only cost less but also have less of an impact on the environment than a wedding in your hometown. All inclusive venues will give your guests the feel of a luxury getaway but will have minimum impact on your budget and your stress level because you won’t have to worry about a thing!

Choose a venue that can double as a ceremony and reception space. Decorations can be kept to a minimum– let the natural elements of your destination shine through and use them for both occasions.

If going overseas, plan early! Put down deposits as soon as possible. Reserve your venue and make sure you are in compliance with any international laws. Secure your passport and remind your guests to do the same.

Take advantage of the culture and use strictly local vendors. Exotic foods and flowers are a cost effective and green way to incorporate the customs of your wedding destination.

Reduce your carbon emissions by keeping your honeymoon within a short distance of your wedding location.
