New Jersey Wedding: Long Beach Island

Saltwater taffy, bayside sunsets, and a lighthouse – New Jersey’s Long Beach Island, LBI to locals, is East Coast romance in one neat, 18 mile long package. From luxury estates to charming bed and breakfasts and a number of exceptional venues, Long Beach Island is a perfect stop for your New Jersey wedding, and a getaway in its own right – without the plane ticket.

Need to Know

Home to about 20,000 residents year-round and an additional 80,000 seasonal visitors, this little island has definite summertime appeal. It is connected to the mainland by State Route 72, boasts warm, sunny summers and a mild autumn climate and is divided into a northern and southern community. The chamber of commerce estimates that 600 weddings per year are held on the island and that nearly one-third of all local businesses support the industry.

Before and After

Beach volleyball, bonfires and charter fishing trips are among the activities present on LBI. Notoriously low-key and family friendly, the island is also a launching point for parasailing and jet skiing, as well as miniature golf, shopping and relaxing on a sugar sand beach. And how could we forget October’s annual Chowderfest Weekend?

Venues

The New Jersey wedding venues on Long Beach Island are breathtaking. At restored Victorian inn, The Gables, summer weddings take place in a flower-laden courtyard and winter weddings involve a crackling fire and cozy parlor, there are no bad choices. We’d be hard-pressed to say no to either Mallard Island Yacht Club – gardens, white picket fences, a European-inspired ballroom and boat house chapel – or Bonnet Island Estate. The waterfront estate features a timber-framed chapel and chandeliered ballroom. Nearby sand dunes, wildlife marsh and a meticulously kept English garden are simply icing on the cupcake.
