Vendor Reviews

Here we'd like to acknowledge the many people involved in pulling our wedding together and making it what it was. Our hope in posting our reviews is that anyone planning a wedding in the are where ours took place will read these and proceed from there, one way or another.

The Ceremony

The Ceremony

The Sunset Pavilion at Cove Beach

Dead End, Beach Avenue, Cape May, NJ 08204

After paying the City of Cape May $25, we received a permit to use the Pavilion from 3-4pm on May 15, 2010. It was the perfect way to have our ceremony on the beach without worrying about sand in our clothes and shoes and our guests chairs sinking into the sand. We used very minimal decorations, as our entire affair was beach/nautical themed; we wanted it to look as natural as possible.

The Officiant

The Officiant

Reverend Robert Steenrod

The Universal Life Church of Cape May, 1011 Washington Street Cape May, NJ 08204

609-636-4525

Aside from pronouncing our ring bearer’s name wrong, Reverend Steenrod was great to work with and custom-tailored and amazing ceremony for us at a lower price than anyone else we found. We were so happy to have had him preside and we would definitely recommend him.

The Chairs

The Chairs

Weddings By The Sea

139 Broadway, Cape May, NJ 08204

609-884-7900

I contacted Catherine Walton from Weddings By The Sea about renting chairs for our ceremony. She sent me the contract a few days later, and I promptly lost it. I found it nearly a month later, way past the deadline, but luckily for us she still accepted our payment and marked us down for the chair rental. During our rehearsal, Dave saw a man who works for the shop setting up chairs on the beach, and went down to ask him if the cement benches in the Pavilion would be removed for our ceremony. Good thing he did, as we had been marked down for a beach ceremony and not a Pavilion! Thankfully everything was easily straightened out, and while the benches were not removed from the Pavilion, the set up looked perfect and was extremely accomodating.

The Flowers

The Flowers

Cape Winds Florist

860 Broadway, Cape May, NJ 08204

609-884-1865

Cape Winds Florist made me an absolutely beautiful bouquet for my wedding that I could not have been happier with. I paid $187 for it and our cake flowers, and both were worth every penny.

[My sister-in-law made my girls bouquets and also did an amazing job... unfortunately it is not her profession.]

The Trolley

The Trolley

Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts

1048 Washington Street, Cape May, NJ 08204

609-884-5404

The trolley rental from MAC was recommended to us by Terry Carr, the Wedding Coordinator from The Chalfonte. The employees at MAC were incredibly easy to work with, and incredibly accomodating considering I waited until the week before the wedding to book our trolley. We had it for an hour and a half and the driver was friendly and the vehicle spotless. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

The Venue

The Venue

The Chalfonte Hotel

301 Howard Street, Cape May, NJ 08204

609-884-8409

We chose “The Ballroom Buffet” Menu, which not only had amazing food choices, but which was the least expensive menu choice; our site fee was waived because we booked a date before the start of the summer season; the Wedding Coordinator - Terry Carr - was beyond helpful, and everything ran so smoothly on our Big Day. The Chalfonte was the best decision we made, and – again – we would recommend them to anyone!

The Cake

The Cake

La Patisserie

524 Washington Street, Cape May, NJ 08204

609-884-7107

We sat down with Michel, the owner of La Patisserie, only twice before our wedding to explain what we had in mind. From those two meetings he took a vision we didn't even know we had and shaped our cake into an amazing, delicious creation that our guests and we loved. We would recommend him to anyone.

The DJ

The DJ

Rick Dee

609-602-1302

We would not recommend this DJ to anyone. He is too old to be doing what he does, sorry to say. He first called me a week before the wedding to say he could not find the Mother/Son Dance song when I had provided him with the website where it was available for purchase for $0.99, he called me at the Rehearsal Dinner to tell me he couldn’t find our First Dance song, he pronounced most of our bridal party’s names wrong after I had gone over it with him multiple times, played the wrong entrance music for the first half of our bridal party, announced me as “Mary Jane” instead of “Mary Kate”, and one of his speakers blew at the end of the night. He charged us $575 for services he talked up to the heavens and did not provide as described.

The Dress

Sottero and Midgley / Lily - A Unique Bridal Salon

415 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ 08080

856-582-8035

I ordered Sottero and Midgley’s VSM7046 from Lily’s in Sewell, NJ, in November of 2009. I was told my dress would be in at the end of March 2010, but come March was told it would not be in until April 24th due to the fact that the warehouse ran out of material. With my wedding being May 15th, I nearly had a heart attack, but Lily’s stayed in contact with Sottero and Midgley and got my dress in only a week after it was originally due. It was perfect and SO beautiful – the quality is stunning; I could not have picked a better or more “me” dress.

*Sorry about the quality of the picture. I did not get a good, detailed shot, unfortunately, so this is the best I could do. Feel free to visit her on the website, though, at http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=vsm7046&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=15&style=VSM7046. :)

The Bridesmaids Dresses

The Bridesmaids Dresses

Alfred Angelo

2180 MacArthur Road, Whitehall, PA 18052

610-437-0169

While my girls' dresses turned out beautifully, I would not use Alfred Angelo for anything again – their corporate practices were sloppy, uncoordinated, and unreliable, and the employees at the Allentown, PA store could not have been less helpful. It was stress I did not need on top of the general stress of wedding planning, and had we had a bad experience upon initially going there, I would have ordered the girls' dresses elsewhere.

I was a little nervous that the guys tuxes did not come in until two days before the wedding, but everything worked out just fine and the tuxes looked great. Also, the guys were informed they could return their tuxes to any Men's Warehouse, so they didn't have to rush home from the shore on Sunday to get their tux back on time.

The Invitations

The Invitations

Ann's Bridal Bargains

Ann’s Bridal Bargains saved my Life! Okay, not quite so dramatic, but I had ordered the same invitations from a different website only to find out a week later they had been discontinued. I found them again on ABB.com and they were done and shipped to me the next day. They were beautiful, inexpensive, and I was extremely pleased with them.

The Favors

The Favors

I made our favors and centerpieces with supplies from this website. I was very pleased with save-on-crafts.com, but beware when they are out of stock: I was informed about two different products that they’d be back in stock within two weeks, and after two months they still had not been reordered. Other than that, they provide great customer service and fast [if slightly pricey] shipping.

The Makeup

The Makeup

Robbi Rose

Cherry Hill, NJ

856-982-6664

I had two makeup trials with Robbi Rose. The first I was not pleased with, but she asked me to send her some pictures of what I was looking for and I went back in for a second. I left feeling very confident about my wedding day look, and she did not disappoint. She is just building her portfolio so her prices are very reasonable. I felt as though she was well worth it.

The Hair

The Hair

The Hair Cuttery

3845 Bayshore Road, North Cape May, NJ 08204

856-884-5854

From our initial consultation I knew I had chosen the right place for my ladies and I to have our hair done. The stylists were friendly, personable, listened to what we wanted, and delivered. We had a great, comfortable experience and the prices were AMAZING. Definitely would recommend them to anyone.

The Shoes

The Shoes

Zappos

I love Zappos! I used them for my wedding shoes and I will use them for any shoes I buy in the future. The customer service is AMAZING, and they upgraded me to VIP status as a congratulations for my wedding! :)

*Note: the hearts did not come with the shoes; I ordered those from drugstore.com.

The Photography

Vlad's Photography

Based in Medford, NJ

609-501-0607

Booking Vlad was one of the best decisions we made throughout our planning. He took tons of pictures, and they all turned out more amazing than we could have hoped for. His pricing is incredible and he offers a $50 credit to anyone who books with him through a former client [and to the client!].
