rhoel and blanche

Beach boys/girls

(First person reference: Blanche)

Nenita R. Solis

Matron of Honor
Nenita R. Solis

Bride's beloved lola (momsy's side) and the only grandparent left. While Tatay, sadly, has gone, Nanay is still kicking pretty. The traces of beauty that made my Tatay kidnap her and instigate a shotgun wedding -- am not kidding -- are not lost even at her age. I've always admired Nanay's strength as a woman and her wisdom as a wife and mother. I will forever be grateful to her, Tatay, and all my titas in Mindoro, for raising me in that little town by the sea. Too, she has always liked Rhoel because "mabait siyang tao." Can't wait to see her all dolled up!

Argentina and Abilene S. Rivera

Maids of Honor
Argentina and Abilene S. Rivera

Bride's lovely sisters. Ok, loveli-er sisters (Hey, I can't have everything, can I?). Being three girls in the family, we used to fight -- and I mean FIGHT -- over clothes, shoes, use of the phone, choice of boyfriends, curfews, etc. But as we grew up and grew in the Lord, we began to bond and fight for one another instead (I will not hesitate to strangle anyone who hurts or harms my little sisters). Even when I'm married, I will do everything in my power to ensure that these girls get the good that they deserve in this world.

Glenn D. Macaspac

Best Man
Glenn D. Macaspac

Groom's cousin, bride's favorite groom's relative. He used to be a willing chaperone on out-of-town trips. He and Rhoel both liked long drives (particularly to Subic) so he was always game when asked to go somewhere far with us. We three share a love for traveling and photography. He's moving to New Zealand this year but will be back for the wedding in June. Right, Glenn? Glenn?

Ivy Rose A. Ramos

Bridesmaid
Ivy Rose A. Ramos

Bride's superfriend since college and my virtual fashion consultant for this wedding (she doesn't always dress like a rock star from the '60s. LOL). Picked her up in AS while looking for classrooms. Because she's a Ramos, I'm a Rivera (and another superfriend of ours is a Restor), we were stuck together for hours in registration lines. Believe me, nothing bonds people quite like queuing for a slot in classes in UP Diliman. (The other superfriends, a Musngi and a Gallardo, we either picked up in class or at the Sunken Garden). Ivy remains one of my superduperestfriends today and can be counted on for most anything, including flying from Australia for this.

Jena T. Balaoro

Bridesmaid
Jena T. Balaoro

One of the couple's earliest friends in the media. She was the girlfriend of Rhoel's college bestfriend when we met almost a decade ago. Her katarayan is legendary, but we've seen her softer side which very few humans know exist. LOL. What they also don't know is that Jena was instrumental in bringing Rhoel and I together (See Our Story). For that and more, she deserves a slot here to represent our wonderful DepEd days with Sheila, Star and Kiko.

Eleanor Fernandez

Bridesmaid
Eleanor Fernandez

Groom's co-Laker diehard and fellow food junkie. "Ely Bryant" was the groom's cheerleader during the couple's "apart years" (She even volunteered to pose as Rhoel's GF in one party we would both attend, just to gauge my reaction! He didn't proceed with the plan. Wisdom.). They met while working at ABS-CBN News Archives. They will die, kill, plot and destroy for KB24. While the world sleeps, they are already lining up in the rain for tickets to see Kobe in Manila. No one else could have deserved my extra Laker jersey dress more than this husky- voiced wild child.

Philip C. Tubeza

Groomsman
Philip C. Tubeza

Bride's original "kapatid." Since that day we took the test for the Inquirer scholarship, we've shared much of our journey in life together: took the same Journ classes, got the same scholarship in 1997, did the same internship in 1998, worked for the same newspaper in 1999, left that newspaper in 2006, worked in Hong Kong in 2007 and all those coffee/bourbon conversations in between. (Kapatid went back to Inquirer last year, I stayed in HK -- the first time our professional paths split! That's a feat!)

Richard V. Fernandez

Groomsman
Richard V. Fernandez

Groom's little bro who's definitely NOT little. Richard borrows Rhoel's shoes, Rhoel borrows his clothes -- that has always been the way they transacted. Except for that one night in 2000 when the groom borrowed his brother's Cole Haans for an evening out in CCP, the same shoes that sealed his date with the bride (moi! - See Our Story). While he looks rough and tough (all Fernandez boys do but are such softies inside. LOL), Richard is always a warm, welcoming presence in Rhoel's home.

Keith Yague

Groomsman
Keith Yague

Architect, firefighter, martial artist, musician, daredevil driver extraordinaire, brimming optimist -- many words can be used to describe Keith, but for the groom only one rises above all: Brother in Christ. When Rhoel first met Keith during Victory Weekend, Keith was always smiling and never seemed to be deterred by anything. Co-sharing leadership duties at Baang's in Tomas Morato, Rhoel eventually found out why. Their higher interest got physically higher as the two joined ENCIRCLE and climbed Pico de Loro with the group. With the friendship shared by this brother, the groom could ask for no finer fellow to climb life's mountains with.

Patricia Denise Fernandez and Trisha Custodio

Flower Girls
Patricia Denise Fernandez and Trisha Custodio

They might be a little old now to be flower girls (mahilig na mag-Starbucks, tama ba yun?!) but these two kids will always be our little girls. Denise (left in pic) is Rhoel's niece; Trisha (aka Bengget) is Blanche's cousin. When we first became a couple, these kids were only toddlers! They practically grew up together and remained close even when we weren't. They have always found ways to make sure Tito gets pogi points with Tita. Few people can be happier for us than these two angels.

Inigo Sebastian F. Arcilla

Coin Bearer
Inigo Sebastian F. Arcilla

Groom's nephew who has inherited Rhoel's love for airplanes and Star Wars, along with the unbelievable talent of mimicking the sound of their engines. Basti is a sweet boy who adores and obeys Tito with unwavering loyalty. If the couple does not have kids, this little pilot will most likely inherit the groom's diecast airplane/warship collection.

Franco Micaller

Bible Bearer
Franco Micaller

Bride's little big boy in HK. He can charm a witch, but if his handsome smile doesn't work, he can throw a mean tantrum. Still, Nanay and Tita Bunchie adore him. This is the only child with four Inquirer reporters for yayas (and I won't even mention his army of relatives). Franco, who's looking more and more Chinese, speaks Cantonese now and is the biggest in his class. I'm sure we'll need an ID to prove he is only four years old (to avoid a bigger tab in the reception. LOL).

Beverly T. Natividad

Ring Bearer
Beverly T. Natividad

Bride's beat twin. Sources often mistook Bev and me for each other. No we don't look alike but when you interview together too much, people tend to mix up "Blanche from Inquirer, Beverly from Businessworld." (Now she's Bev from Inquirer). We've shared a lot of out-of-town trips and episodes in our lives that were crazy, almost wrong (LOL), but immensely fun. We took Spanish classes at Instituto Cervantes out of boredom. We have yet to habla in Europe, but I know someday we will (escorted by my groom).

Nicolette Dizon

Reader
Nicolette Dizon

Bride's shopping partner/driver. She's often associated to Tita Shawie, Ara Mina and Marjorie Barretto (go figure). But Niks is much lovelier, and her bubbly personality is unmatched. Her laughter is contagious, she can talk non-stop and shop to death -- which is why we're such good friends. When I need some coffee and conversation, Niks will be there in five minutes (she lives near my old place) and we'll drive to Kopiroti for coffee, Chocolate Kiss for cake or Greenhills for shopping therapy -- and the world is all right again. LOL.
