When we said Beca has a large family, we were not joking. Three aunts, four cousins, all living in Brazil (l. to r., top to bottom): Georgia, Elda, Beca, Elza, Fatima, Sofia, Kelly, Amanda.
Yet another small sample of Beca's very large clan, these are (l. to r.) Maira (cousin), Julia (cousin), Marina (aunt), Lilian (cousin), Luciano (uncle and Beca's godfather), and Zuleica (Beca's grandma, second mom, role model, and all-around super woman).
Aunt Elza suffers from the family malady of loving to sing loudly and badly.
Three aunts (from seven) (yes, seven aunts-- Beca's grandparents are good Catholics, they are!): Elda, Lucia, Elza. They have no qualm about dancing three to a couple to extremely tacky music.
Milena is the smartest, sweetest under-15 you'll ever meet. Lucas will cut down any ninjas in his path. Elda is super-mom to these super kids.
Beca's parents, Manoel and Ines, and The Professor enjoy a great meal at The Empress of China, in SF, CA. We highly recommend everything on their menu.
Andre and Martin are very comfortable with their inner carnivores, yes they are.
The rest of the gaggle of cousins and significant others at Christmas 2007, drinking beer, eating barbecue and playing cards. Clockwise from bottom left: Aline, half of Gus's face, George, Naty, Guil, Vanessa, and Andre.
Guil shows off what a classy bunch we are.
Aline and Andre, Beca's cousin and brother, at Christmas 2007. We swear Andre will not eat your babies.
Aunt Lucia and Beca's dad, Manoel, like to sit and talk while everyone else is running around, cooking, playing cards, drinking beer and swimming. Their stability is a great touchstone in the family.
Narja is a little powerhouse of energy and love. Sit still long enough, and she'll hug you.
Martin's mother, Laurie, laughing on a gorgeous day in Zurich. Yum, are we going to Tibits?
Jill and Martin on a lovely summer's day out in the garden of the Zurich house.
This was the Schmidheiny family cat, Willie, and he was the best, grumpiest, most luxuriated cat in his old age. He grew up with us, had many adventures, and he taught Martin how to lounge and daydream.
