Located in the heart of Southtown, Rosario's is packed every night. It can pack in even more now that they are in a larger (but just as lively) location just a block from where the restaurant used to be. Sip on a perfectly crafted frozen Margarita as you enjoy enchiladas, carne guisada, pork tips and so much more. Do not miss Rosario's on Friday nights, when it offers entertainment by some of the best bands in South Texas. Get there early to snag a table and enjoy dinner, then prepare to dance yourself silly.
Open Hours: Su-Th 11a-11p; F-Sa 11-midnight
Steaks, seafood and Southwestern specialties from deep in the "haute" of Texas. Located on San Antonio's famous River Walk, Boudro's is often the restaurant for spotting visiting celebrities. Don't miss the fresh Guacamole (made tableside), the Prickly Pear Margaritas or the blackened Prime Rib. And be sure to dine with friends so you can order one of every dessert to share. Boudro's is a favorite among locals and tourists alike and books quickly. Dining is available indoors, riverside, and on river barges with advance reservations. Handicapped access is available through a street-level elevator.

Las Canaria's is located inside one of San Antonio's most historic hotels, La Mansion. It offers formal, courtyard and patio dining in addition to providing room service for hotel guests. Renowned chef Scott Cohen, who was formally trained in France, strives to provide food and service that goes beyond guests' expectations. All this attention, however, does not come without a price. Salads start at $6, and chef Cohen's specialty, grilled swordfish with a salad and three side dishes, will run $22. The restaurant also offers burgers and fries for the kids for $8. A full bar and an extensive wine selection are also on hand. Locals flock to the restaurant to enjoy Sunday brunch, which starts at 10:30 am. Reservations are highly recommended for this meal.
Open Hours: Daily 8am-11pm
Although this is one of the only restaurants on the River Walk that opens for breakfast, it is for lunch or dinner that you should visit. Enjoy tasty enchiladas and chicken dishes, or a huge spinach salad with grilled salmon. Be sure to save room for dessert, too. The lively interior, which contains only a moderate amount of seating, opens to an expansive riverside patio populated with colorful, mosaic-tiled tables and scurrying sparrows. A popular spot among locals and tourists alike, the place fills early; large groups should call ahead to make reservations. The restaurant also has a fairly large banquet area for private functions.
Open Hours: M-Th 10a-10p; F-Su 10a-11p
Just a short drive out of the city, nestled in the little town of Leon Springs, you'll find some of the best barbecue in this part of the state. Rudy's is housed in what resembles an old country store, and the rows of picnic tables inside and out of the restaurant are filled with diners almost any time of day.
After dining, wander through the general store to stock up on snacks. You can even fill up your gas tank outside.
Open Hours: Daily 11am - 11pm
Casa Rio was the first restaurant on the River Walk and is still a must if you have never eaten riverside. With colorful decor, inside and outside seating, and a prime location for people-watching, this restaurant is a favorite among both tourists and locals. Add potent, thirst-quenching margaritas, waitresses bustling about in Mexican sundresses, and Mexican favorites such as enchiladas and tamales, and you have the makings of the classic Tex-Mex dining experience. Because no reservations are taken and this is a hot spot, you may want to arrive a little early to avoid long lines.
Open Hours: M-Th 11a-10p; F 11a-11p; Sa 8a-11p; Su 8a-10p
This is one of San Antonio's best-known Mexican restaurants, and for good reason. Both the food and the beverages are excellent. The margaritas will knock your socks off; be sure to enjoy one on the large, shaded patio. For Mexican cuisine, La Fogata sets an excellent standard with green enchiladas and queso flameado that cannot be beat. Other specialties include the garlic-heavy pollo loco, quesadillas and chile rellenos.
Open 24 hours daily!!!
Located in Market Square, this San Antonio oldie-but-goodie has been a favorite of both locals and tourists since 1946. The Mexican specialties such as Chile Rellenos, Huevos Rancheros and the huge combination platters are excellent, and the atmosphere truly takes you south of the border. Nowhere else will you be serenaded by mariachis while enjoying chorizo and eggs or an eight-ounce rib eye. But be sure to have a tip ready for the entertainers; they want to enjoy a meal later as well. Finally, do not miss the panaderia (bakery) for fresh breakfast pastries, Mexican breads and sweet rolls.
Open Hours: Lunch: M-F 11a-2:30p; Dinner: M-Th 5:30p-10p; F-Sa 5:30p-11p
If a somewhat cramped restaurant above what was once a high-end produce and grocery market does not sound like your cup of tea, you are going to miss out. Silo offers delicious entrees such as sea bass and tenderloin, as well as a well-studied wine list and desserts you cannot pass up, all in a stylish setting. This place is popular with the locals, so reservations are recommended, particularly for dinner. A bar is now open in the space below.
Open Hours: M-Sa 11a-10p; Su closed
This burger joint on the city's near-Northside has been cranking out burgers For 23 years. Some people may think that a burger is a burger, but they probably haven't been to Chris Madrid's. A consistent winner of various critics' polls over the years, the restaurant recently won the local newspaper's Best Burger award.
Like a lot of local burger places, this spot is decidedly low-tech and high-taste. The Cheddar CZ is its signature meal, but you might want to try the devastatingly good bean burger, too. Add an order of fries and a cold beer, and you are in hamburger heaven.
Open Hours: Mon: 5pm-11pm Tue-Thr: 11am-11pm Fri-Sat: 11am-midnight Sun: 12pm-10pm
At the foothills of the fabled Texas Hill Country, Leon Springs is a proverbial Wide Spot in the Road. However, its reputation for knowing how to have a good time has earned the tiny community a big dot on the map. A visit to Leon Springs is likely to bring you to Rudy’s, Home of the World’s Worst Barbecue.
As a recent addition to the Leon Springs landscape, Fralo’s Art of Pizza is earning a spot in the hearts of locals with casual dining among lazy moss-draped oaks and picnic tables, a scene often rounded out with a live musician at least four nights a week year 'round.
Just up the road from The Dominion, Fralo’s is also conveniently located for visitors to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, The Shops at La Cantera, and the Bass Pro Shop on IH-10. Fralo’s is also easily accessible from The Westin La Cantera Resort and Golf Clubs. Fralo’s is approximately 20 minutes from downtown San Antonio. Just exit 551 coming from downtown and immediately turn to your left.
Open Hours: 11am - 2am daily
This is by far one of the rowdiest restaurants on the River Walk, so diners can expect loud music, great food, cold beer and steely attitudes from the waitstaff. Do not take your in-laws or your children—unless, of course, they can swig a longneck and crack crab legs with the best of 'em. The food here is good and has a definite Cajun flavor. All entrees either arrive in a bucket (crawfish and crab legs) or on top of butcher paper (hamburgers, ribs, chicken). It is messy, but fun. The crowd tends to get a little crazier the later it gets, as the restaurant gradually morphs into a full-fledged bar with live music every night.
Open Hours: Sun-Thurs 12:00 noon - 11:00 P.M. Fri and Sat 12:00 noon - 12:00 midnight
(You MUST try Mexican Vanilla!!!)
