How We Met

Justin and I met in college at UW. He was finishing his last year as a biology major and I was in my 3rd year working on my chemistry major. We had one class together, which we later found out that neither of us needed, but we both ended up taking it anyway. Art 105.

Justin sat in front of me, and I really never noticed him. One day, the professor had us get into groups of two, and it just so happened that Justin and I ended up being partners for a drawing project.

We had such a blast that day -- it was so casual that it didn't seem like a date (which it wasn't then, but now we look back on that 2 hours as our first date!) I could tell by the end of the class that I was very attracted to Justin - his personality, his style, and his ability to make me laugh.

After class, we said goodbye, and went our separate ways. I was so excited and nervous to go to class the next day, and thankfully (I found out later) he felt the same way!

He asked me out after our next class, for dinner and a movie -- and after that date and movie, we've been together ever since.

The Proposal

Justin was so nervous the night that he took me out to dinner, but we'd been dating less than a year, so I really didn't think much of it. He said that he had a big presentation the next day, and that he just wasn't ready for it. I believed him, and even asked him to practice his speech on me to ease his mind!

(He didn't, by the way)

After dinner (which was probably the most awkward evening that we'd ever spent together) he said that he was going to use the restroom. While he was walking back to our table, he walked right over to me, got on one knee, and asked me to marry him.

I never thought someone could truly surprise me and catch me off my guard. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that someone could pull off a proposal without me knowing about it, but he did.

I sat there, wanting to shout 'YES!' but I froze. I looked at him, for what seemed like 20 minutes, without uttering a word. I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him, but I just couldn't get the word out.

Through the crying and nervous shaking, I nodded my head and smiled -- and with that, he put the engagement ring on my finger. He got back up and sat in his seat, and we both just gazed at each other -- probably thinking the same thing: Did he? Did I just....YES! We had just gotten engaged. It was the most romantic night of my life, and it's an evening that I'll never forget.
