Comparatively speaking, the rings were easy to choose. I know many modern brides have a say in their engagement ring, but I didn't; Troy picked it out himself (although he did a little "subtle" questioning as to my preferences). However, Troy was in charge of picking out his wedding band, and I was in charge of mine. After seeing the shape of my engagement ring, I knew a wedding band on one side would look lopsided, and my OCD would not allow for a lopsided ring. So I wanted to have...
I threw around a lot of ideas for wedding favors before finally making a decision. Just like the invitations and many other things of the wedding, I've decided to make these myself. For the past 6 or 7 years I've been entering my clay sculptures in the State Fair here in Minnesota, and most of those years I've won ribbons. So, my initial plan was to make a clay tiger and a clay penguin for the wedding favors (Troy's favorite animal is a tiger, while my favorite animal is a penguin)....
When we first got engaged, the two things I immediately started thinking about were the dress (natch) and the invitations. I started looking in stores, online, everywhere I could think of, and yet nothing jumped out at me. I had an idea in my mind of how I wanted them to look, and I didn't want them to cost an arm and a leg (I'm sorry, but $3 apiece for a folded piece of pretty paper is a bit much). After a particularly rough day in which I dragged Troy to a paper store and tried to get him...
With less than a year to go, we've got many of the necessities already: ceremony site and pastor, my dress (sorry, won't be posting any pictures of that. Don't want Troy stumbling across them), and of course the reception site. We'll be at TPC Twin Cities, a golf course in Blaine that is PGA sanctioned. The location is great; the clubhouse looks out on the 18th hole and lots of lovely landscaping, and the venue is about 15 minutes from the ceremony site (not to mention about 5 minutes away...
Well, we've reached the one year mark. There are now less than 365 days until I'm a Mrs. I've been meaning to use this as a forum to post updates on the planning process and showcase all my DIY projects (and trust me, there are a lot of them). We're also in the process of building our first house, so I'll likely post updates about that here, too. First posts are always so difficult and corny, so I won't blather on much longer. Hopefully I'll stay motivated and keep this up to date, so...
