History The vibrant green slopes called Puakea, in the District of Kohala in the northern tip of the Island of Hawai`i, have drawn people to them from the time of the early Hawaiians creating a rich and still vibrant multi-cultural history. The fertile land of Puakea's was part of the Kohala Field System - thought to be an 8th Wonder of the World by early explorers. Originally established in 1870, Puakea Ranch and Plantation was once the thriving community of plantation workers, cowboys and their families working the surrounding 2000 acres on the Northern tip of The Big Island of Hawaii. Now impeccably restored.
Weddings Our beautiful location is ideal for weddings and receptions because it offers not only beautiful landscape and views for friends and family to enjoy, but also ample parking and an opportunity to create a true 'Hawaiian Experience' for your guests. Since you have use of the entire grounds, including our comfortable bungalows, it is also incredibly convenient. Close family and/or your wedding party can stay on the grounds days before or the night before the wedding, to avoid rushing to getting to the ceremony. The Ranch is located just 2 miles south of the Historic towns of Hawi and Kapaau, both of which offer art galleries, quaint shops, restaurants and endless activities. We are just 10 min. to Spencer Beach Park, 15 min. to Hapuna Beach, rated in the top 10 in the world. We are an easy and beautiful 45 minute drive from Kona International Airport. Puakea will delight and indulge you with unsurpassed charm and warm aloha spirit wrapped in comfortable unpretentious luxury. You may choose to allow us to handle coordination of all wedding details, including decoration and catering - or are welcome to choose your own vendors and enjoy full use of all our grounds. We can even arrange for the bride and groom to ride up to greet guests on horseback!
Lodging We offer 2 meticulously updated and eco-friendly bungalows. Enjoy a glass of wine while you take in the breathtaking sunset views from your bungalow's lanai. Watch the whales breaching with your morning coffee.
