Wizard of Oz Bridal Shower

While bridal showers are often known for lots of pink and lace (and not that there is anything wrong with that), sometimes all of that frilly just doesn’t fit the girl. For those who like a little more whimsy and fun, try doing a movie musical theme, such as this Wizard of Oz party. Incorporate lots of tiny details from the movie, but feel free to go a little tongue in cheek. For example, I’m sure cocktails are not what they are talking about with the lyric “Troubles melt like lemon drops,” but isn’t it more fun?

Summer Quilt Inspiration Board

Confession: I am a quilter.  I love everything about quilts: the fabric, designs, and good old-fashioned homespun charm. For those of you planning a casual farm or garden wedding, quilts are a terrific way to add shabby chic character to your event. Use them as tablecloths, spread them out randomly under trees to create quiet settings, or hang them as backdrops on barn walls or behind your dessert tables.

Holey Matrimony: A Doughnut Inspiration Board

Doughnuts, donuts, however you spell it, what’s not to love? Nothing if you ask me. Fried + dough = ‘holey matrimony.’ Am I right? So why not consider such a delightful pairing at your wedding? I know, I’m asking a lot of questions here instead of making a declarative statement. So, I’m telling you now, doughnuts would be awesome at a wedding reception! In lieu of cake, in addition to cake, or on the cake, they’d add a fun and festive touch.

Etsy Round-Up: Blushing Bride Inspiration Board

Soft, feminine, and romantic, bits of blush in your color theme can add an ethereal glow. Pale to bronzed pinks, soft peaches, these all conjure thoughts of English rose gardens, pink champagne, and sunset. These colors are the perfect addition to a color palette for a spring or summer wedding.

Inspiration Board: Tangerine and Fuchsia

One of my favorite color combination’s is tangerine and fuchsia. It’s a fun, vibrant color pairing that can still feel very sophisticated when matched with cream, ivory or even black. Perfect for summer-y weddings, you can also give guests a cool surprise (that perfectly matches your color palette, of course!) by serving Creamsicle pops in orange/vanilla and raspberry/vanilla flavors!

Cut Paper Inspiration Board

I am nuts about all things paper and particularly all things cut paper. It’s a wonder I still do after a harrowing experience of creating almost 100 cut paper paddle fan programs with cut paper accoutrements for a friend’s wedding some years back. Still have the scars to prove it. But, I still have the same love despite those tearful moments. Oh yeah, there were tears. Now, however, I’d leave it to the professionals like the ones featured here.

Strawberry-Themed Party Ideas

I love all things strawberry. And here in the Northwest, strawberry season is right around the corner. If you are having an early summer wedding, add some berries to your reception or bridesmaids’ luncheon menu. Strawberries go perfectly with sweet or savory.

Ideas (from top left):

Marry sweet and spicy with a fun fruit and pepper salsa.

Skip a fancy dessert and just make a simple shortcake.

Keep it summer-light with a spinach salad topped with fruit, goat cheese, nuts, and chicken.

Don’t forget the cocktails! This strawberry mojito will keep the party going.

Consider homemade (or store-bought…we won’t tell) jam as favors that can double as place cards. Just write names on the label or a tag.

Favorite Sack Lunch Treats Sweet Table

Looking for a sweet table that’s nostalgic without being too complicated? Go for gourmet versions of your favorite childhood treats! Admittedly, this was a really dangerous search on Pinterest (seriously, I would pretty much sign away my firstborn for an oatmeal creme pie right now), but who doesn’t love these desserts? Instead of pudding cups, serve individual banana puddings. Make your own Hostess cupcakes. Give those Rice Krispies Treats their own little paper wrapper (also an excellent parting favor). And yes, bake oatmeal creme pies. Definitely make those. Right. Now.
