There’s a lot of love going around this season: a contagious epidemic that’s got all the right hues, tailoring and of course: style. Today’s real wedding is no exception, and I’m excited to prove with beautifully captured images that cutting on budget doesn’t have to mean cutting on style.
Setting: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Heroine/ Hero: Mexican American bride – Valerie and her African American beau – Kenneth
Signature Colors: Orchid, Aubergine and Gray
Photographer: Carolyn Scott
SCENE #1: AUBERGINE & AURA
One of the best ways to cut expenses and stick to budget is to use local vendors, seasonal produce and flowers…and employ the volunteered services of family and friends. These were all tools used by the bride in pulling off her big day.

Debra and Ben’s wedding was held at the beautiful Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, CA and was pure elegance with that California charm. This unique venue offers picturesque moments and JL Photografia captured everyone of those moments. From the gorgeous portraits and amazing details this wedding is simply stunning.

Rachel and Frank’s very elegant wedding (as shot by Jamie Lee Photography) features a glamorous bride and groom, a beachside ceremony, and one of Fort Meyers, Florida’s oldest homes, but who really steals the show is a bulldog named “Sarge.” Sporting a matching tuxedo to the groom (he is the ring bearer after all), Sarge looks like he is having a great time.
As does the couple. I love when the couple’s enthusiasm for the day jumps off the page, and you can tell they are having a fantastic time (my fave is the one of Rachel smiling hugely during the ceremony). This, of course, doesn’t even take into account the lovely setting, her lace dress or their orchid centerpieces…

If you’re planning an Indian wedding, you’re probably already checking in with Shawna from Maharani Weddings several times a day; if you’re not, head on over to her site for some serious eye candy – every wedding on her site is breath-taking and filled with details galore. We’re absolutely thrilled she’ll be guest blogging with us each month! (Be sure to keep reading after the photos – Shawna does a fantastic job of explaining all the different parts of a traditional Indian wedding!).
So, what does Maharani (pronounced Ma-ha-RAH-KNEE) mean anyhow? Well, literally it is Hindi for princess, but that is really just the beginning. Maharani is an attitude or aura that a woman carries about her. It is an air of confidence, coupled with a kind spirit and lots of distinctive style. Top that off with a touch of Bollywood flair, and the signature megawatt…
Is it just me or does the idea of a destination wedding in Hawaii seem extra appealing now that it’s officially winter? The sun, the beach, and, okay, the wedding dress… So, Sayaka and Mack’s wedding in Hawaii (photographed by David Murphey of Perfekt Photo) seems like just the thing for this chilly morning.
The couple, originally from NYC, met an intimate group of guests (some from as far away as Japan!) at the Royal Hawaiian in Honolulu; they married in an afternoon ceremony on the Ocean Lawn (with stellar views of the ocean) and followed it up with an intimate dinner on the terrace of the largest suite at the resort (the Kamehameha Suite).
And while the hotel is a gorgeous back drop, it can’t hold a candle to this couple. Sayaka looks picture perfect in her heavenly champagne Romona Keveza…
There are some weddings where one aspect stands out and calls for all of your attention; for Janet and Michael’s destination wedding, that would be the location. Beautifully photographed by Jules Photography the shots capture the versatility of the Italian countryside – the mountains, lush greenery and sweeping views of the ocean (it doesn’t hurt either that Janet and Michael take absolutely stunning photographs).
Janet worked with the historical elements of their locale (the hotel where they were married is from the 11th century!) creating details that had a classic feel for an overall romantic effect. Be sure to read more about her thoughts and how they chose their location after the photos.

Michael and I are both avid travelers. As soon as we were engaged (in
Paris!), neither of us had a doubt that a destination wedding would be the
most befitting…
What do you get when you pair Haitian heritage, Filipino charm, soul food and a historic Victorian estate? A whole lot of “slap-me-that’s-so-pretty” outbursts. Today’s real wedding inspiration was captured by Samantha Shay Photography, and I’m honored to share it with you.
SCENE #1 – THE BRIDAL CHAMBER
Rachel, a Spelman College Alum of Haitian roots, and Tony, an Oral Roberts University Alum of Filipino-Haitian roots, chose June as their month to say “I Do” in style. By style, I mean gorgeous hair, classic make up, and custom made gifts made of ivory and blue freshwater pearls (lucky bridesmaids!).
SCENE #2 - A SOULFUL CEREMONY
Veering away from whimsical or nondenominational settings like Central Park or the Empire State Building, Rachel and Tony stayed true to their beliefs by holding their ceremony at the historic Bethany Baptist church in Brooklyn. The tune of gospel and romance echoed…
If you were anywhere near a wedding blog or website last year there’s a good chance you ran into this wedding invite, one of the most creative and funny invites I can remember seeing. Many of you though probably weren’t engaged then (or making the wedding blog rounds) so there was a good chance you missed it and that, my dear readers, just doesn’t fly.
The groom Matt is a designer for the New York Times and various other publications and obviously incredibly talented. But what I like best is that it goes to show that everything (down to your wedding invite) is yours – to personalize, tell your story with and, most importantly, have fun with.

Today’s DIY-inspired wedding is truly dreamy, as it was completely hand-crafted by the bride and groom and the best part is they wanted this day to be about their family and friends as well. The happy couple built a truly memorable celebration and Megan of Megan Ann Photography snapped each detail with perfection! This sweet couple crafted every last detail and the result is pure a heart-felt celebration.

Cuba and Anna’s wedding is exactly the kind of wedding that we hope inspires all styles of couples – a wedding that is 100% true to the couple and how they envisioned the day. Not only did Anna hand-sew the couple’s wedding attire, as well as their children’s outfits and the officiant’s but all of their friends pitched in, providing everything from stage equipment to catering to the photography.
And it sounds like it was one heck of a party! Guests were treated to an all-night dance party that lasted into the next day (I should note that Cuba works in IT for mywedding.com so some of our lucky staff got to participate in the all-night revelry!).
I can’t really do justice though to the uniqueness of the day – that’s best left to Cuba and Anna’s photos and their very touching thoughts on their wedding.
