Charm City Cakes West 2013 Collection

Lately, it seems that many real weddings feature pie buffets and frosted layer cakes. And I love the easy simplicity of that. But, there is just something about a stunner of a wedding cake. These lovelies by Charm City Cakes West are more than dessert; they are works of art.

It doesn’t take too more searching to find some ugly cake toppers out there. For serious, what are these people thinking? Some of them are bigger than the cake itself! So I thought you could all use some cute cake toppers to look at. From rustic to glittery glam, these will bring that extra bit of style to your wedding dessert!

Alternatives to a Traditional Wedding Cake

Are five tiers of vanilla buttercream just not for you? There are plenty of other unforgettable dessert options to consider.

What’s your favorite dessert?

Do you and your honey love banana pudding? Chocolate eclairs? Churros with dipping sauce? You could serve any one of these at your event. To increase their visual appeal, have the caterer serve them in cute individual containers.

Everyone loves a buffet.

A table filled with sweet treats will make guests of any age happy. You can vary the items, or stick with a theme. Suggestions for sweet tables: nostalgic candy, pastries, donuts, brownies, cookies, cupcakes, and chocolates. You can create themes with colors, flavors, or shapes.

Go seasonal.

Sweet Strawberry Dessert Table from Host-It Notes

I have a new rule: No editing Erin’s sweet table posts before lunch. Doesn’t this look so amazingly delicious? As summer is winding down, berries are the perfect inspiration for a dessert table.  The combo of cakes, cookies, and Italian sodas makes for a very fun bridal shower or small reception idea (and her use of a red clover plant keeps the decorations simple, but interesting).  But I do warn you, unless you want to have a giant scone for lunch, read this after you have had a sandwich. Seriously.

Dessert tables capture all the most delicious parts of a party—pretty treats, flowers, decor, and skipping straight to dessert.  That’s why they are perfect for a bridal shower. Everything…

It’s Friday, So Why Not Look at Delicious Cakes?

Is it a little self-sabotaging to start off the weekend looking at cakes? Perhaps. But just like my newfound and shameful addiction to the teenage soap opera Pretty Little Liars, sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants.

Display Your Wedding Cake!

While I do love a good cake topper, I prefer a gorgeous cake stand. Why? I’m practical. Chances are I am not going to re-use the very adorable personalized wood figurines of me and my honey. But a pretty cake stand in pink or silver or blue? Absolutely! That thing is going to be showing off cupcakes and cinnamon rolls and macarons every chance I get! Sarah’s Stands has the loveliest cake stands. You should check them out. Also, go to their site for some serious wedding cake inspiration. Amazing!

I really love this very simple stained soft maple. Perfect for rustic weddings!

I go back and forth on which one is my favorite. Right now, it’s the blue.

Gluten Free Dessert Table Ideas

A few months ago, I went gluten-free. I thought I would miss pasta. Nope. Quinoa noodles suit me just fine. What I truly crave are great, tasty, decadent desserts. And it is totally possible to get gluten free treats, you just have to look a little harder. So, if you are gluten intolerant, here are some fun ideas for a dessert table to please all of your guests. First up, these amazing pumpkin whoopie pies. Yum!

If you want a dessert table with lots of variety and visual interest, be sure to mix in non-traditional dessert table fare, like cinnamon rolls or fruit tarts.

Chocolate almond pound cake? Yes, please! In fact, better make it…

Friday Chocolate Break!

Can we keep it real? It is Friday and all I want is a salted chocolate-covered caramel. I noticed that Fran’s now sells wedding favors, and you should totally check them out. But really, get something for you. Really. It will make all the details you have to finish before your wedding so much more enjoyable.

Normally I am not a fan of fruit + chocolate. It seems to defy the laws of nature. But I tell you, their chocolate covered apricots are out.of.this.world.

Ice cream and caramel sauce. The perfect Friday night treat. What if you don’t have ice cream? Well, then you have to shamefully eat the sauce straight out of the jar, right?
