Wedding Cakes

Bobbette & Belle

Did you gasp like I did upon first laying eyes on the photo above? If the budget allowed, I swear I’d have a different wedding cake for each attending guest just to appease my irrational love of all things cake. And, as is evidenced here, Bobbette & Belle ain’t helping me in that department. You know what I mean? How does one possibly decide upon only one type of incredibly crafted cake?!

The glorious pastry wonders you see before you are from the minds, hands, and ovens of Allyson Bobbitt and Sarah Bell, the founders of one of Toronto’s top destination wedding bakeries. I’d gladly seek their counsel in making a cake decision even if it had me bouncing all the way home somewhere between sugar high and cake drunk – because I’m going to have to try a lot of cake. And, don’t even get me…

Peggy Porschen

Wow. Honestly, can you think of a better way to start off talking about these brilliant bespoke cakes by U.K.-based cake designer, Peggy Porschen? Well, I cannot. I’m too busy perusing these spectacular creations and trying to keep my mouth closed. They’re just beautiful!

Founded in 2003, the company is headed by the award-winning cake designer and Creative Director and her husband Bryn Morrow, Managing Director. Together with her talented team of pastry chefs and sugar-craft artists, Peggy is passionate about creating edible works of art that taste as good as they look. And, that passion is clearly evidenced by the amazing and elegant examples shown here.

Charm City Cakes

For years, I enjoyed watching Duff Goldman and his harrowing cake tales on “Ace of Cakes”. Now, this isn’t going to make me come across as the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I was so used to marvelling at Charm City Cakes ‘ creations made to look like buildings, airplanes, animals, etc. that I never even thought about them and wedding cakes. Duh! (See what I mean?) Not surprisingly Duff and his team make some spectacular looking wedding cakes. Talk about a feast for the eyes!

I’m especially fond of the cake above with it’s elegant but whimsical design as well as the chocolate folk art cake below. Which is your favorite?

Maggie Austin Cakes

When it comes to planning out the details of a wedding the two things I’d be likely to focus on would be the food and the cake. (My guests would eat well!) I know there are a lot of dessert and sweet table trends but, regardless of what variety of sweets I might consider, a wedding cake would still hold court for me. The harder part would be deciding which kind. This would especially ring true if I had to pick from all of the gloriously beautiful options created by Maggie Austin.

Each cake is individually tailored by this amazing Washington D.C.-based pastry artisan and what an artist Maggie is! From an elegantly spare but anything-but-traditional asymmetrical white 2-tier design to an elaborate Tiffany stained glass-inspired floral beauty, the former ballet dancer seems to have no limit in her ability to create one breathtaking couture cake after…

Edible Embellishments from Andie’s Specialty Sweets

Weddings are certainly sweet enough as they are, but coming across the edible embellishments from Andie’s Specialty Sweets had me riding a gleeful sugar high with all the adornment options they have available! From “Mr. Darcy” and “Ms. Lizzy” lollipops to chocolate filled candy seashells, candy buttons to beach glass, Andie and Jason will have your head swimming with all the possible ways to sweeten up your wedding.

It goes without saying that all of these sea-inspired goodies are perfect accoutrements for a beach-themed wedding. Aren’t the seashells amazing?!

What could be more sweetly vintage than candy buttons to adorn a cake or serve as super cute favors? I mean, seriously, how adorable is that cake?!

Nothing would pay better tribute to embarking in the game of life together than these edible game tiles. And, can you imagine the fun your guests would have with these as favors at…

Groom’s Cakes Inspiration Board

While some brides may be just fine with a groom’s cake that is a red velvet armadillo (if you don’t get this reference I must insist that you put Steel Magnolias on your Netflix queue–your life will be better because of it), others may want their husband’s favorite cake expressed in a subtler way. Here are a few ideas for delicious groom’s cakes that don’t involve sports teams, barbeques, or remote controls.

Inspiring Cake Artistry from Eat Cake Be Merry

If there is one aspect of a wedding that I fixate on more than any other it’s the cake. Don’t get me wrong, now. At the end of the day I am fully aware that it is ultimately about the joy and beauty of being forever joined with the one you love most. But, if there’s cake involved in the sealing of the deal? That much better!

So, this morning I stumbled upon the beautiful cake artistry of Liz Shim of Eat Cake Be Merry and I’ve been perusing for much longer than I should. But, you know, it’s “research”. Right?

I love how Liz manages to have a hip and contemporary aesthetic but still infuses a whimsical quality in her colors and details. There is plenty of fresh inspiration to be had in her galleries. And, if you should be in the New York…
