Let’s face it, ever since the royal wedding of Kate & William, we’ve become a lot more fascinated by fascinators. (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.) And, why wouldn’t we? There’s just something a bit more stylishly snappy about them, don’t you think? Coming across the Holiday 2011 Collection from Preston & Olivia had me smitten from the start!
Not only are these pieces fun and festive, but they’re so versatile. These could make for some seriously fetching bridesmaids accessories as well as something to wow the crowd at your bridal shower, engagement party, or swanky bachelorette soiree. Not to mention upcoming holiday parties! Hey, maybe even doing the dishes could become a little more celebratory? You never know. It could happen.
Generally recognized as a symbol of good luck, many brides are integrating feathers into their weddings. If you like this idea, add small touches to avoid looking like a Mardi Gras gone awry. The only exception is, of course, if you are actually having a Mardi Gras themed reception (as shown in the feather centerpieces above).
Especially if you are sticking to a white or pale color palette, small feathers can add interesting texture to bouquets. If you are going with bolder colors, such as red or black, incorporate them into hair accessories or shoes.

I made four fabric flower fascinators (say that five times fast!) out of leftover material from my wedding dress. Three of them are for my two sisters and sister-in-law to wear at the wedding. The last one I’m keeping as a neat memento, and will wear some other time (I already have a big blue fascinator for the wedding). Here’s the quick ‘n’ dirty tutorial on how to make these easy but gorgeous fascinators.
What you will need:
* fabric
* scissors
* a candle
* matches/lighter
* needle and thread
* felt
* hair clip
* beads
* and a glue gun (optional)
1. Cut out circles of varying sizes from your fabric.
2. Hold each circle over a candle flame and slowly rotate it as the edge puckers. Here’s what mine looked like when I was finished playing with fire:
3. Cut a small piece of white…
I was looking through posts yesterday and realized we’ve never done an article on ban.do. How could I have let this happen?!?! As a wedding blogger, it’s my responsibility to send you to the happiest places on the Internet where you can be inspired by gorgeous finds. To not mention ban.do…well, let’s just say, I was this close to turning in my blogger badge last night.
Ban.do accessories are unabashedly girly, very sparkly and always styled beautifully (if you’re looking for ideas on how to wear your hair at your wedding, I would recommend taking a look around their site). I love their hair accessories, especially their black label line, which features handmade, vintage pieces that are one-of-a-kind. (On a side note, doesn’t she make you want to dye your hair red? Every time I do it, I’m sorry, but when I see photos like this…
Ever since we featured Dave and Kelly’s engagement session with her to-die-for flower headpiece, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for wedding crowns that had a similar feel. I loved how one accessory could lend the entire shoot an eclectic, outdoors-y feel. Well, today, dear readers, I’m happy to report success!
Which Goose handmakes natural crowns and headpieces that feel plucked straight from the garden (except that you get to wear them over and over again…). While many of the tiaras are made from vintage flowers and accessories, she also has a full line that is created on natural vines for a true woodland feel. Queen of the Woods is one her designs that sits on a natural vine and features a pine cone rose (I didn’t even know there was such a thing, but it sure is pretty!).
Love this Dorothy Dreams tiara,…
We’ve had a lot of questions regarding Lisa’s gorgeous headpiece from brides wondering where they can find a similar version for themselves or their bridesmaids and who can blame them? Her headband creates a polished look while also simultaneously feeling glamorous and slightly whimsical (not an easy feat).
While we haven’t found an exact replica, we have hunted down a collection which feels very similar and features some very pretty twists of their own. Untamed Petals has a huge variety of romantic headbands, from elegant one strand pieces, to Grecian-inspired chain headpieces, to a larger rhinestone version which sport flowers and birds. She also takes custom orders so you can get exactly the look you want (she might even be able to re-create a versions of Lisa’s).
Amanda, the artist behind Untamed Petals, will be releasing another collection very soon so we’ll be sure to keep…
If im going to be on the beach and barefoot (YEAAA!!!) but have a formal “fit and flare” gown, how long or short should I hem? -Nicole Koulis
Dear Miss Koulis,
You will be a vision of the sea in your “mermaid” or fit-and-flare style gown at your beach wedding. The hem of this type of gown should be low assuming it also has a bit of of a train; you’ll want to make sure it fully covers your feet.
Also, be certain to hem it long enough so that if you do decide to put on a pair of heels after your ceremony the line will still look good.
What is the best hair styles for a strapless dress? -Helen Jones
Dear Miss Jones,
The bride’s hairstyle is a very important decision. Her coiffe should complement the veil, dress, ambiance of the event, and, most importantly, the bride

This year at Renegade Craft Fair, I became the teeniest bit stalker-ish when it came to Giant Dwarf’s Starlette Crown (big surprise, right? I know I have a bit of history…). I kept walking by it, analyzing it on poor Sue’s head, and basically trying to decide if I could pull it off. Eventually, I was forced into a decision (there was only one left), took my stars and headed on home. And you know what? It was one of those purchases where you can’t imagine what you would have done without it.
Every time I put it on, I feel… magical. Like I could bestow you with gifts of goodness by merely nodding in your direction. Which is, personally, exactly how I think you should feel on your wedding day – like Glinda the Good Witch but with a more subtle crown.
I…
