Real Wedding Re-Run: Jordan and Heather Marry Deep in the Heart of Huasna, CA

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story:
We met in the ninth grade (Jordan was 15 and Heather was 14). We didn’t take much notice of one another until a year later; we each started to appreciate the other while going out with friends or planning school activities. Then one day at age 16, while trying to think of a Homecoming dance date, Heather thought about asking Jordan and butterflies flew in her stomach. She’s been in love ever since. It only took two weeks for Jordan to ask Heather out on a date, Halloween six years ago this October. Only two months later Jordan was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and…

Lauren and Tony’s Eco-Friendly Rustic Wedding by Jenna Walker Photography

Happy Tuesday! Here is a little flashback to an awesome autumn wedding we featured several months ago by Jenna Walker Photography!

It wasn’t too long ago that we featured a mountain wedding, but when Lauren and Tony’s wedding by Jenna Walker Photography came across my desk I knew that I had to share it.  Whereas Katie and Nick’s wedding was all about classic detailing, Lauren and Tony’s has a sense of rustic elegance that perfectly fits the wide-open spaces of their venue. (Full editorial disclosure: An owner of Devil’s Thumb Ranch is an investor in mywedding.com).

From Lauren’s lovingly worn cowboy boots, to their sunflower centerpieces in wooden boxes, to their…

A Ghost Town Engagement Session by Photography by Verdi

There are lots of things to love about Jennifer and Stefano’s engagement session by Photography by Verdi – the location is creative and interesting, taking place at an old Ghost Town called Goldfield, which also happens to feature stunning backdrops; their wedding sounds like a blast – Stefano is Italian so they’ll be taking the whole gang over to Italy for the Big Day; and their looks match the location perfectly – dressy with a nod to Western, but not over-the-top.

But what I love most about their shoot is their genuine affection for each other. When you look back over your engagement photos you want to see the love, and, dear readers, can’t you just…

An Easygoing, Outdoor Engagement Shoot from Dawn Sparks Photography

There’s nothing like a gorgeous, outdoor engagement session featuring an adorable couple to get you through Hump Day and into the rest of the week, don’t you agree? In this case, Megan and Craig, captured beautifully by Dawn Sparks, are the fresh-faced couple who will lead us there…

Shot just outside of Denver, the session looks…easy. Like they’re a couple who is completely comfortable with their surroundings and with each other. Nothing feels forced – it’s simply the two of them, a couple of excellent wardrobe changes and a brief interlude where they decide to toss around a paper airplane. Just a very cool couple, out enjoying the day and beautiful scenery with one another. Gorgeous.

Both Megan…

A Barn Engagement Session (with Dogs!) from Jennifer Eileen Photography

Okay, confession time. I’m not a huge dog person – I tend to get a little bit nervous around them and then worry that they can sense that I’m nervous, which, of course, makes me even more nervous, and before you know it I’m backed up in a corner, smiling maniacally to prove how relaxed I am. But, all of that went out the window when Steve and Erin’s engagement shoot by Jennifer Eileen Photography landed in my inbox.

How gorgeous are these photos? And how cool is it that they decided to include their dogs? It adds the ultimate personal detail (including the whole family!) while giving their photos a sense of movement and intimacy. Steve…

A Playful Farm Engagement Session from 2&3 Photography

Nick and Nikki’s engagement shoot by 2&3 Photography is almost like two separate sessions. In the first set, they get to run around a farm (photographer Thad’s dad’s place) and play on old-fashioned swings, pull each other in wagons, pose in front of old trucks and just generally have a great time together (and get some adorable shots along the way).

For the second part, they get all gussied up for a series of romantic shots that capture the genuine affection they obviously have for each other. Put the two together and it’s like the perfect marriage of playful and romantic…

And, as if the photos aren’t enough, Nick jumps in and give us all the details on their…

Part 2: Grace and Jason’s Detail-Oriented Reception from Emily Takes Photos

The fun with Grace and Jason continues! (If you missed their ceremony and prep, head over and check it out because it’s gorgeous! Don’t worry, we’ll wait for you.) For their reception, they had what I consider to be the ideal outdoor locale – a small (fancy) barn with a patio so they were able to eat outside and then when it cooled off, head indoors for dessert, a dance contest and piñata whacking. Yep, it was that kind of wedding.

And, you can see the love and attention that went into every detail of their wedding – the wedding bundt cake made by Jason’s mom, the garlands and more paper cranes handmade by Grace, her…

Get Married Outside! Our Favorite Outdoor Venues

Maybe it’s because it’s been raining here for the past few days, but all I can think about is going outdoors and enjoying the sun. And there is no better time to head outside and let Mother Nature work her magic than on your wedding day.

I’ve put together a few of my favorite outdoor wedding venues, but I’m sure I’ve missed a bunch! Let me know what I missed or if you’re planning an outdoor wedding in the comments section.

Beach: Of course, at the top of our list has to be beach weddings (okay, maybe I’m a teensy bit partial because that’s where I got hitched). There is something so romantic about waves crashing onto a sandy beach…

A Southern-Style Country Shoot from Stephanie Smith Photography

Amber and Josh are planning a big Southern-style BBQ wedding so when they began talking to their photographer, Stephanie at Stephanie Smith Photography, they knew they wanted to create a Southern-style shoot for a consistent look throughout their engagement photos. The effect is warm, down-to-earth and very fun (I can imagine their wedding is going to be quite the party).

And they didn’t need many props – the gorgeous sunlight and willow trees created their own dramatic backdrop – but for the ones they did use, Amber and Stephanie hunted them down at local antique shops and garage sales (a great tip if you want to get your hand in planning your own shoot). And I’ve gotta say, I’m so glad they did; that strawberry shortcake series is absolutely delightful, isn’t it?
