Sponsored Post: Send Out Your Invitations in a Bottle

blog_image-_3

Thanks in part to stories of treasure maps and movies starring Kevin Costner, messages in bottles are steeped in association with romance and intrigue. Why not excite your guests by sending your invitation in a special bottle? Invitation in a Bottle offers couples a wide variety of invitation styles and options. For example, the invitations are available in over 20 themes, but you can also work with their team of designers to create a personalized version.

The bottles the invitations arrive in come in different designs, ranging from “tropical resort” to a confetti-filled “Margaritaville.”  If you want to save money (or just want the joy of assembling them yourself) you can purchase kits instead of the finished products.

I think my favorite thing about this company is their crazy-low minimum order requirement (10 invites). For those of you planning a destination beach wedding with a small guest list, this is a perfect option. And for those of you who want to send out a more traditional invitation, with such a low order requirement you could still use these bottles as favors or table decorations.

For a limited time, Invitations in a Bottle is offering a special promotion for Delightfully Engaged readers. You can purchase a $60 gift card for only $30! Hurry, this offer expires on April, 10, 2012!

Erin and Jamie’s Coastal Manhattan Beach, CA Engagement Session by Allison Maginn Photography

Erin and Jamie will be getting married this summer in Cape Cod, but for their e-session they took Allison Maginn to Manhattan Beach, CA. This couple is so freaking cute, I can’t even stand it. And I am pretty sure that I need Erin’s red flats in my closet as soon as possible!

Nikki and Po’s Gorgeous St. John Beach Wedding by One Love Photo

nikkipo0179-l

Nikki and Po’s ga-ga-gorgeous destination wedding is just plain stunning. From Nikki’s beautiful dress (love the bow!) that most brides wouldn’t consider for a beach wedding (and they would clearly be wrong) to knowing that every destination wedding should keep the party going with late night cake eating, this wedding is perfection. Nikki and Po were married in the Virgin Islands on St. John and all of the festivities, including a day-after trip to the local ruins, were captured by One Love Photo, who you may remember as one of Delightfully Engaged’s favorite photographers of last year. Tiffany and Tyler’s Stunning Florida Beach Wedding by Paul Johnson Photography

299

Since that little meanie, Punxsutawney Phil, declared six more weeks of winter today, I felt it was the perfect time to look at a beach wedding. Check out all of this gorgeousness and sunshine in this wedding by Paul Johnson Photography.  Tiffany and Tyler has a great weekend filled with fun times with their closest friends and family on Florida’s Gulf Coast. And they also had the cutest ring bearer ever.  Just six more weeks, right?

I’d love to hear about any specific details, and your vision for the day!

After being together for nearly 7 years we had a solid idea of what we wanted the entire weekend to be like for everyone: a vacation. We cherished the Wed.-Fri. that we got to spend with our immediate families, with beach activities, trying new area restaurants, and girl’s night karaoke, and then our friends and extended families joined us on Fri. and Sat. We wanted everyone to leave Sunday feeling relaxed. For our ceremony we wanted a reverent, rustic, and genuine experience. The benches (versus customary chairs) helped to give the feel of being in a chapel, but just an outdoor one! For our reception we wanted a sophisticated but relaxed environment with of course good music and good food.

Our reception tables were named after family last names and each was decorated in part with a vintage photograph that our parents and grandparents helped us to find of weddings in our families’ past. The oldest was a portrait of my great, great, great-grandmother on my father’s side in the 1890′s. It was a fun surprise because only our parents knew we were doing it, and guests ended up mingling among each table to look at all the pictures. It also gave family members who had never met an opportunity to introduce themselves as older versions of the pictures!
Did your wedding location hold a specific significance to you?

We knew that we wanted to marry outside on the beach, and Carillon was perfectly between the white sandy beaches that my family had visited every summer in Destin for more than twenty years and where Tyler’s parents honeymooned and his family vacationed in PCB.

What was the most meaningful part of your day?

Walking over the white walkway; before I could see the crowd I could hear both the ocean breeze and the soloists singing—clearly. It was as if time paused for just a minute to allow me to take it in. And then seeing the two pages of hand-written vows that Tyler had written to me; it was the first time I had heard his personal vows.

Tell us details of the events surrounding the wedding.

We also had time for the bridesmaids to have a spa day while the groomsmen relaxed on the beach. We used the homes each family (bride and groom) had rented for the week to house the bridesmaid luncheon and rehearsal dinner on Friday night. We spent the wedding night in the inn’s honeymoon suite and then had a farewell breakfast at the bride’s family rental home for our bridal party and immediate family. It was a nice way to say goodbye to the wedding week, with sand in our toes and our parents, and siblings eating left-over wedding cake before we left for our honeymoon. We got to talk about the night with each other and laugh about the fun we had before going our separate ways.

How did you know your partner was “the one”?

We are fortunate (we think), in that we always knew we would end up as husband and wife, it was just a matter of when. Even on our first date Tyler told me that he wanted to marry me one day…it just took seven years for us to end up with time to do it!

Any advice you’d give new brides who are just getting started?

Before you get caught up in the colors, centerpieces, or dress styles, sit down with your fiancé and determine what you each want to get out of the whole experience. What’s most important to you and your relationship and how can you allow the wedding to reflect that? How do you want your guests and family to feel leaving the reception? If you can have these questions answered, picking out the accessories from each vendor to embellish your vision will come naturally.

Cyrus and Jillian’s Newport Beach Engagement Session by Joielala Photography

jc_engaged0045

Cyrus and Jillian (and their trusty sidekick Nellie) decided to take their engagement session to their favorite bar and then the beach at Balboa Fun Zone. So jealous of all the fun they had with Joielala Photographie! Check out their beautiful sunset-drenched pictures, which just goes to show that you don’t have to have a super-complicated e-session to come out with amazing images.

Mike and Nicole’s Southern Inspired New York Real Wedding by Brookelyn Photography

mn226

You know how everywhere you turn right now, there is some type of top 5 or top 10 list? I’m obsessed with them. I can’t stop (is there a 12 step program for this?). And so, please pardon me if I tell you the top 5 things I love about Mike and Nicole’s wedding by the super awesome Brookelyn Photography:

1. The flowers. I mean, they are ah-mazing. From the bouquets to the centerpieces, I am just in awe.

2. The mason jar goblets. They are my new favorite thing. And I want them. Badly.

3. The bridesmaid dresses. I love gray. And the style was universally flattering. Way to go, Nicole!

4. The wreaths adorning the end of each pew. Love, love, love, love this. A lot.

5. The signage. Everything was super cute, witty, and stylish.

I encourage everyone to make their own top 5 list, because there are TONS o’ details to admire here!

I’d love to hear about any specific details, your vision for the day, any DIY projects you did herself or have special meaning….

Mike and I both have a love of the South.  The most memorable trip we ever took together was a road trip to Nashville for a country music festival.  Southern elements and inspiration from country songs definitely played a big role in our inspiration for the day.  From mason jar luminaries referencing Miranda Lambert’s “Me & Charlie Talkin’” to our rustic venue’s exposed beams (which reminded me of an old barn), to our stationery inspired by Nashville’s famous Hatch Show Print.  I feel like we had at least a hand in making everything and every part of our day reflect us as people in some way.  Mike designed all of the stationery while I painted the table numbers, sewed the runners and drew up designs for all of the florals (I gave the florist a 15 page booklet of inspiration & drawings which they nicknamed “the bible”). The whole wedding was really like a two year long DIY project & I loved every second of it!

Did your wedding location hold a specific significance to you?

One of Mike and my favorite things to do is to hop in the car on a nice day and drive out to the east end of Long Island.  The scenery out there is as if you’ve driven south instead of east.  We love the country atmosphere of the North Fork and knew we wanted a venue that reflected that on our wedding day, without the price tag that comes with actually getting married on the North Fork.  Long Island is full of cookie cutter catering halls.  We knew that was one thing that we did not want! When we found The Old Field Club we immediately fell in love with it; it has just the right amount of rustic charm!

What was the most meaningful part of your day?

Mike is a web designer, so I wasn’t surprised when my card was presented to me on my iPad, in the form of a website. It was so sweet in such a creative way and reminded me not to get caught up in all of the wedding day details that I painstakingly planned for the two years prior, but to enjoy the day where I get to marry my favorite person in the world.

Did anything funny or out of the ordinary happen?

For the entirety of our engagement I teased Mike (who is notorious for mumbling and jumbling up his words) that he would mix up his vows.  When the time came, it ended up being me who jumbled up the vows. I cracked up right there on the altar of this beautiful and very traditional church.  The moment was very indicative of our relationship.  We are constantly laughing at each other and ourselves.  One of my favorite photos from the day is of this moment.

Tell us details of the events surrounding the wedding.

My mom, sister, and best friend planned me a beautiful and intimate shower at a local wine bar called Barrique.  I didn’t want a traditional shower, and what they gave me was so unique. They printed photos of us through the years and used clothespins to attach them to twine around the room and had the guests sign fabric squares with advice for Mike and me.  They were all then sewn into a quilt by my maid of honor and her mother.  It really was lovely.

How did you know your partner was “the one”?

I had to have had an inkling before this, but we spent 20 hours in the car together on the way to Tennessee.  I knew if we could be happy stuck in the car together, tired and cranky, then we had to be meant to be.  He must have felt the same, he proposed a month later!

Any advice you’d give new brides who are just getting started?

Make it your own!  Your day should be all about you and your partner and your guests should feel like insiders into your own little world.  Don’t plan an “insert bride & groom here” kind of wedding, make it personal!
