Tell us your story:
We met in the ninth grade (Jordan was 15 and Heather was 14). We didn’t take much notice of one another until a year later; we each started to appreciate the other while going out with friends or planning school activities. Then one day at age 16, while trying to think of a Homecoming dance date, Heather thought about asking Jordan and butterflies flew in her stomach. She’s been in love ever since. It only took two weeks for Jordan to ask Heather out on a date, Halloween six years ago this October. Only two months later Jordan was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and spent the next year in and out of the hospital, undergoing several surgeries. That time, more than anything, brought us together. After getting through “sickness and health,” the rest was a cake walk.

What was the theme  or design inspiration for your wedding?
The Sharpe family ranch is far away from any main roads and distractions and at sunset, the views are so breathtaking it feels like magic could happen! We wanted people to take that all in, the raw beauty of the mountains and the array of colors that turn as the sun sets. We loved how the bright flowers (that matched the sunset) popped on the green grass so we brought that green inside with the tablecloths. The rest of the magic came alive at night with tons of candles, pin-spotting, and up-lighting.

Tell us about the bridal attire:
I (Heather) refused to look like Cinderella at the Ball, but every time I tried on a vintage style dress my mother cried, “My daughter wants to get married in a nightgown!” I decided on a drop-waist white gown with a mid-length train. Touches of lace and bead work made the dress feel old fashioned while the fitted cut felt much more contemporary. It was the perfect dress for me because it felt elegant and formal but I still felt like myself when I wore it. An antique bracelet (borrowed) from my mom, earrings from Nordstrom and a dash of Chanel and I was ready to go.

Favorite design element of your big day:
I absolutely adored our flowers! In addition to the lush arrangements our florist brought in, we also planted hundreds of rose bushes in our wedding colors all over the property, bringing the theme full circle. I especially loved my bouquet – it was so romantic and felt just right for our location.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?
In addition to hiring certain vendors to cover our wedding, we also took a less expensive route with other elements and put them together like a patchwork quilt by hiring individuals and then connecting the dots between them. We hired a company for the lighting and generators, a duo for the microphones, monitors and other sound equipment, had the rental company cover the stage, and hired each of the musicians individually through a friend from church. In the end we saved a lot of money and successfully turned out an incredible and flawless reception! However, we did lose a lot of sleep over loose ends!

What advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
Don’t stress over your “theme.” It will just work out along the way. Rather, focus on other elements like how you want your ceremony to feel, your favorite foods and your favorite flowers. You may surprise yourself by ending up with a completely different wedding than the one you thought you wanted!

Best advice someone told you at the wedding?
Jordan’s 93-year-old grandfather gave us a charge during our wedding ceremony and told us that in all his years of marriage, he’s learned the magic words that will always get you through whenever you make a mistake, “I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”

Any specific reasons behind certain choices you made for your wedding?
We were open to many ideas, new and old, whimsical and traditional, except when it came to our cake. While it feels like most couples compete for the most amount of flowers on a cake, the highest layers or the hardest to construct, geometrical masterpieces, we just had to have ours old fashioned! We had an all-white cake with minimal detailing, complete with bride and groom cake topper (the cute kind, not the kind where the bride is dragging the groom to the top!) The layers alternated between devil’s food with chocolate ganache and strawberry shortcake. Yum!

Tell me something about your photographer, Cameron Ingalls.
We loved everything about our photographer! He insisted on getting to know us before the wedding, a real delight as most vendors are more concerned with the budget or other details. The day of, Cameron was completely in the moment with us the whole way…perfectly capturing every detail and yet never making us feel like we were involved in more than a great conversation. But the real treat didn’t come until we received our personalized photo archive box (with a 5×7 of every photo) and our album-quality proof book inside! Plus family who ordered photos got them within days. Everyone is in love now!

Tell us your story:
Meeko and I met working together at a restaurant in college. He was the older, hunky bartender, and I was the 18 year-old hostess. We worked together for almost 8 months, shamelessly flirting all along, before I successfully FORCED him to ask me out (yes, that’s right, I threatened him). After a couple of dates – and we’re talking classy dates like dinner at In ‘N Out – Meeko asked me to be “his lady.” The rest is history.

What was the theme or design inspiration for your wedding?
I am a graphic designer and wanted everything to be simple, chic, vintage inspired, and welcoming. I wanted people to feel like they were on vacation…a mini-destination wedding only 20 minutes from where we live (San Francisco). We had to stick to a budget, and do a lot of DIY projects to keep it authentic and unique. Also, I LOOOOOOVE color, especially yellow, so that was a big source of design inspiration for our entire look and vibe.

Tell us about the bridal attire:
I wore a dress from a local Bay Area designer: Coan Couture. It was simple and perfect. I “borrowed” the most amazing mustard yellow cardigan from my bridesmaid Ellie and pinned a fabulous corsage–made by another bridesmaid Amanda (who also created my hair accessory and all of the bridal party’s hair accessories—-to die for!) onto it. I wore flats, because, let’s be honest, who really wants to wear heels ALL DAY LONG on their wedding day? I wanted to be comfortable, original, and true to my real, everyday style. I think I achieved this by sticking to what I felt best in and not letting anybody else influence my style decisions. I looooooved my outfit!

Favorite design element of your big day:
Oh my gosh, there are SO many!!!! I think my FAVORITE part (aside from all the paper goods I designed with my business partner & bridesmaid Allegra), were the flower girls’ outfits. Is that a “design element?” They looked simply delicious in their handmade tutus and ballet flats (custom ordered from Etsy shops!!!) and their adorable hair accessories (Untamed Petals). Seriously, they were beyond adorable. I was also obsessed with the flowers. My “aunt” Bobbie did them ALL and they were perfection to say the least.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?
I think one of the biggest challenges, aside from budget and finances, was sticking to our true style and vision. A wedding quickly becomes about everybody else, and having so many amazingly stylish friends/family means a lot of amazingly stylish opinions. It was difficult at times to filter through all the requests, complaints, ideas, etc., and stay focused on what WE truly wanted and needed. In the end, I think we were hugely successful in doing exactly what was necessary for us and executing a very authentic day. I know that when I look back on our wedding, I will not regret any of our choices…and that makes me very proud.

What advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
Hire a wedding day coordinator, not a friend or family member, but a professional. This is HUGE. Seriously, you need somebody to run the show behind the scenes that isn’t concerned with getting dressed for the ceremony or partying at the reception. I was beyond thankful to have Julie & Sue to help me throughout the day!

Best advice someone told you at the wedding?
Sheesh, I have no idea!

Any specific reasons behind certain choices you made? Maybe flowers that were mom’s favorite, or your first dance song was the first song you ever heard together, that kind of thing?
We ditched the wedding cake (we both dislike cake) for something we loved AND that had sentimental value – It Ice Cream Sandwiches! They are special to us for a couple of reasons: When we first started dating we would take walks through the small college town we lived in to the Newsbeat (a newsstand/candy/convenience store) and get It’s together. They are seriously delish! Then we found out a lot later on that my parents did the EXACT same thing together in San Francisco when they first started dating! Crazy, right? AND, finally, when we moved to San Francisco we decided it was a must to serve them at our wedding because they are a San Francisco Original Treat. PERFECTION!

Tell me something about your photographer, Cameron Ingalls.
We are beyond obsessed with the way our photographs turned out from our wedding day. Cameron Ingalls is insanely talented and totally has STYLE! We love how he can capture our emotions and personality so well, and how freaking AWESOME he is with handling all the people and group shots! Holy cow, he is a rock star…I mean we got family pics done in like 20 minutes. WE LOVE CAMERON! Seriously, all you brides-to-be…HIRE THIS MAN!

How did you meet?
We both went to UC Davis, but we actually met working together at a restaurant. We both started working there on the same day…it was a Monday lunch shift, Meeko was bartending, I was hostessing…and it was definitely crush at first sight!

Did you know when you met, that s/he was “the ONE?”
No…BUT…there was absolutely something there! It took 6 months before Meeko FINALLY asked me out on a date (first date = “studying” at Borders Bookstore and late night eating at In ‘N Out, because we’re classy like that)…it wasn’t long after that first date that we knew we were both in it for the long haul!

Tell us about your Fiance(e).
Hmmm…Meeko is amazing! He is the most authentic person I have ever met in my entire life. I love his perspective on life…he is really positive and doesn’t judge anyone. I admire that about him a LOT and he definitely challenges in those areas. Oh ya, and he makes me laugh all the time!

Share with us the “proposal story!”
Our proposal was so “us”, and I love that! I definitely knew it was coming, but wasn’t sure WHEN. We had picked out the ring about a month before he proposed…and anytime we did anything together I would look at his pockets for the ring box, thinking to myself “is he gonna do it today????” One random Friday night we got take out and a bottle of wine from Whole Foods to enjoy on my AMAZING roof deck overlooking San Francisco. I had already scanned the pockets…and no box…so we were just goofing around and enjoying a low key night in…and then all of the sudden he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!!! I started laughing and said “wait, but the rings not in your pocket!!!” and he slyly pulled out just the ACTUAL ring wrapped in toilet paper! He knows how nosy I am and figured it was the only way to conceal the ring! It was really cute and funny and totally awesome!

Describe your ring.
It’s beautiful and simple and dainty and feminine. I love it (obviously, I picked it out…hehe)!

When is the wedding?
October, 2009

Which one is your favorite engagement session photo, and why?
Hmmm…that’s hard because we LOOOOOVE our photos! I think my favorites are the one’s of us on the sidewalk by all the pastel SF houses and Meeko loves the pics on the stairwell. We just LOVE that our photos are all in OUR neighborhood, North Beach, which is where Meeko proposed and where we spend most of our time!

Tell us something about your photographer, Cameron Ingalls, that you just loved!
Ok, Cameron is the MAN and I’ll tell you why. Meeko and I are so unphotogenic and awkward. We were ridiculously nervous about taking pictures and thought for sure they would all turn out goofy and weird and…well…AWKWARD. BUT THEY ROCKED!!!! And it’s because Cameron was hilarious and made us laugh and totally took the edge off….we all embraced the awkwardness and went with it. HAHA! It was actually really, REALLY fun hanging out and shooting together. And now we are actually going to be able to relax with the camera around on our wedding day. The engagement shoot was a great way to break the ice!

Tell us your story:
Jim and I met at the gym. He was a client of mine. I worked there as a personal trainer so he basically paid me to torture him! We worked together about 2 years with no romantic involvement and then lost contact for about another year when he stopped training. We met up by chance and he asked me out, one thing led to another and now here we are today happily ever after!!

What was the theme or design inspiration for your wedding?
I never really thought out a theme to our wedding but knew that I wanted it to have a classic and elegant style. I thought we achieved that with our color scheme (black and red) and setting (it was a castle complete with moat and my knight in shining armor).

Tell us about the bridal attire:
I purchased my dress from a local wedding store called Central Coast Wedding Center. I chose my dress because I felt when I tried it on it was going to get the reaction of “wow” when Jim saw me for the first time! It was lacy, shiny, sexy and fitted! I loved wearing it!I purchased my dress from a local wedding store called Central Coast Wedding Center.

Favorite design element of your big day:
I really was pleased with the lighting. We had lights strung over head as well as spot lights that shone on the wall. It added that extra something.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?
Everything ran smoothly! I would say just trusting that my planner and vendors would all show up and do their jobs was the hardest thing because I like to be in control.

What advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
I would suggest a wedding planner if it is in your budget! It is a big load off your shoulders and you are really able to enjoy being a bride on your wedding day and not worry about things getting taken care of.

Best advice someone told you at the wedding?
Stop and take a mental picture every so often. The day goes by so quickly!

Any specific reasons behind certain choices you made for your wedding?
One thing that Jim and I chose to do was having Ave Maria sung during our ceremony and have it dedicated to our mothers. It was so special we were all tearing up during the song.

Tell me something about your photographer, Cameron Ingalls.
Everything!!! Cameron is the best photographer ever! He captured the beauty of the day in every shot! I admire his talent and creativity as well as professionalism.

Paul and Christa’s Engagement Shoot at Montana de Oro

How we met:
We met in Washington, DC during Orientation Week before we started law school at Georgetown. It was during a thunderstorm (no, seriously). We were at Target, having ridden the dorm’s shopping shuttle out there, and then we started talking on the ride back. Christa was sitting in the front row of the bus, and Paul (gentleman that he is) was standing in front of her. Christa overhead Paul chatting with someone about the Bay Area, and her California-centric ears perked up (GO BEARS!). She had already noticed the cute boy in the baseball cap, and this was all the excuse she needed to say hello. We both knew we would be fast friends.

How we eventually started dating:
After graduating from Georgetown Law in May 2006, we maintained our friendship from opposite coasts. Christa had returned to her beloved Bay Area to practice intellectual property transactional law, and Paul had moved to New York City to work as a management consultant. Several months later, we found ourselves single at the same time and wondered whether our deep friendship could flourish into something more. Despite the distance, Christa’s insanely busy fall as a first-year attorney, and Paul’s crazy travel schedule (4 days a week in Dallas, anyone?), we managed to find time during the occasional weekend to start our romance – even if under less than ideal conditions.

How we ended up together (for realsies):

While long-distance relationships are cool and all, they really aren’t nearly as cool as actually seeing each other on a regular basis. After 9 months as a consultant, Paul’s travel schedule was still crazy (now 4 days a week in Seattle), although he had managed to transfer out to his company’s San Francisco office, which made…well, very little difference in how much we got to see each other (doh!). For a variety of reasons, Paul decided to quit his consulting job to return to the law – and living full-time in the Bay Area. Starting in April of 2008, we moved to Redwood City – halfway between our respective law firm offices. Now we get to see each other EVERY DAY (joy).

Did you know when you met, that s/he was “the ONE?”
We both knew when we met that we were destined to be special people in each other’s lives. We felt an instant, tangible connection, and the moment is etched in our memories forever.

Tell us about your fiance.
Christa grew up in Santa Maria, California, on the central coast. Santa Maria is famous for being the setting for the movie “Sideways,” and also infamous for being home to the second Michael Jackson trial. However, it was also a gorgeous place to grow up, equidistant from vineyards and ocean. After graduating high school, Christa attended college at UC Berkeley, which involved a lot of culture shock for this small-town girl. Before long, she fell in love with the vibrant intellectual environment and the Bay Area’s sprawling scenic vistas. She graduated with a degree in English literature, and decided to attend Georgetown University Law Center, where, as you’ve read, she met Paul. After a wonderful three years on the East Coast, she ultimately decided to move back to her beloved Bay Area. Christa currently works in Mountain View, CA as an attorney in the technology transactions group at her intellectual property law firm.

Paul was raised in Sacramento, California, where he developed his interests in jazz piano and trombone. Throughout high school, Paul competed with his high school jazz band and played in small jazz groups around Sacramento. After graduating high school, Paul moved to New Jersey to attend Princeton University for college. Paul engaged his love of research and writing in the Religion department, and majored in 20th Century Religion, Ethics, and Politics. During his time at Princeton, Paul continued to pursue his music, minoring in jazz piano performance and composition and playing around campus with a jazz quintet. After college he moved back to San Francisco, where he worked for a non-profit healthcare research organization, but after two years, Paul decided that law school might be fun (well, actually, necessary), and so he returned to the East Coast to Georgetown Law, where he met Christa. Paul intended to head back to the Bay Area as soon as possible, but it took a little longer than he expected – Paul spent about 18 months after law school working as a management consultant in just about every region except the Bay Area, and in April 2008, finally succeeded in returning to his roots in Redwood City. Paul works as a regulatory attorney at a healthcare law firm in San Francisco.

Share with us the “proposal story!”
Christa had long dreamed of paying homage to the culinary mecca known as The French Laundry, a world-renowned restaurant (rather, experience) located in Yountville, CA – the heart of Napa Valley. Paul had been trying for months to get a reservation, but The French Laundry is notoriously impossible to get into. His efforts finally paid off, so we decided to make a weekend of the event, after a busy summer filled with friends’ weddings and other engagements.

The week before the big weekend getaway, whenever Christa told a friend at work about the trip and the planned dinner at The French Laundry, the person would inevitably exclaim, “Ohmygodhe’stotallygoingtopropose!” Christa always dismissed the prophecy, protesting that Paul was not so cliché as to propose at the French Laundry. She’d always imagined that he would probably propose at Lake Tahoe, because of all of the special times they had had there.

Dinner was set for the evening of Friday, September 5, so we took a half-day from work and made the leisurely fall drive to Napa. We checked in to the Napa Valley Lodge, a stone’s throw from the French Laundry, and Christa’s big plan was to take a nap before dinner as it was a broiling 103 degrees outside. To her surprise, Paul announced that it would be nice to take a walk around the lodge. Christa eyed him skeptically – Paul sweats A LOT when it’s really hot outside. Unclear as to what prompted his masochism, she reluctantly agreed to take a short stroll around the grounds. Adjacent to the lodge, a small vineyard beckoned, where the vines hung with grapes ready for harvest. We stopped strolling in the middle of the vineyard, and when Christa’s back was turned to admire the view of the gently rolling hills, Paul drew the ring he’d been carefully hiding out of his pocket. When Christa turned around to face him again, she was floored! Paul asked her to marry him, and the happy couple drifted off on a cloud to The French Laundry, where we had the most amazing meal of our lives. And Christa later gloated to her work colleagues that she was right; Paul didn’t succumb to the cliché.

Describe your ring.
Christa’s ring is a stunning, cushion-cut solitaire diamond in a cathedral setting, mounted on a platinum band inlaid with bead-set diamonds. It is modeled after the Tiffany Novo ring.

When is the wedding?
