Chelsea Shows Us How to Create a Vintage Saucer Centerpiece

This centerpiece is full of drama and personality but couldn’t be simpler to make!table-set-centerpieces-dahlias-chairs

Total Cost: $15 – $20

Supplies:

-Flower Clippers
-Vintage Saucers: We collected saucers at thrift shops and found a few on sale. They were easy to find for under $1 a piece. We used 12 saucers for a 6 foot long table.
-12 flower stems (for a 6 foot table)

Flowers that work well for this project:
Dahlias (pictured)
Garden roses or very open roses
Peonies
Zinnias
Asters

Steps:heads-dahlias-clipped-scissors1. Clip off the stems so that the flower can sit flat.

plates-vintage-saucers-table-pinks2. Line up your saucers in the center of the table. Just eye what looks good to you.

flowers-water-pouring-vintage-saucers3. Fill the saucers with water.

4. Float one large flower or a few small flowers in each saucer.

5. Mist with water.

Tips/Mistakes:
-You may have to re-cut the stem of the flower to make sure it really does sit flat once in water. It should be floating on the water, not standing on its stem.
-Put the saucers on the table before you fill them with the water and flowers.
-Because the centerpiece has to be set up on site, you might want to consider asking a friend, caterer, or wedding planner to do this for you.

DIY Flag Save the Date from Chelsea at Frolic

Oh, how we love Frolic! Chelsea’s daily inspiration blog is always chock-full of pretty ideas that feel effortless and chic. So, we’re so happy that she’ll be posting DIY projects that easy to do while packing a big punch.1-flag-save-date-diy-ribbonSet the tone for a fun, lighthearted wedding with a flag Save The Date! These cute little flags are pretty simple to make and your guests will love receiving them in the mail! Total cost: $1.50

supplies-diy-flag-sticks-cutting-matSupplies:
Computer and a program like Word or Illustrator
Card stock
Skewer Sticks (found at a grocery store)
1 yard of Ribbon (ours is from Michael’s Crafts)
Scissors
X-acto knife
Cutting mat
Straight edge or ruler
A4 envelope
Small hole punch (optional)

Steps:
1. Create the graphic on a computer. We used Illustrator but Word works just fine. We created a 3″ by 5″ triangle. We used the following fonts:

•The cursive font is called ‘Learning Curve Pro’
download here: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/Learning-Curve-Pro

•Ruby + Max font is called ‘BonvenoCF’ light
download here: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/BonvenoCF

•Numbers font is ‘Quicksand’ light
download here: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/Quicksand

We created a dotted line and places for the holes as part of the design to make the rest of the process easier.

2. We printed the design on card stock at Kinkos but if you have a color printer you could use that too.

cutting-save-date-xacto-knife3. Cut the flag out on a cutting mat with an X-acto knife. Use the straight edge to make it easier.

4. Make two holes for the skewer with the X-acto knife or a small hole punch.

5. Push the skewer through and trim the stick to fit in the envelope.

6. Cut the ribbon in half and add a ribbon knot at each hole.

Tips/Mistakes:
We tried using scissors and also a rotary cutter to trim the flag but the X-acto knife was the easiest! As long as you use the straight edge you should be able to get a straight line (especially with a little practice!)! The ribbons disguise the holes, just in case they are less than perfect (like ours!).
