Cyrus and Jillian (and their trusty sidekick Nellie) decided to take their engagement session to their favorite bar and then the beach at Balboa Fun Zone. So jealous of all the fun they had with Joielala Photographie! Check out their beautiful sunset-drenched pictures, which just goes to show that you don’t have to have a super-complicated e-session to come out with amazing images.
I just found out that Havaianas now does custom orders! I’m both excited and pissed. I wish that Havaianas had introduced this, oh, um almost THREE YEARS AGO when I was planning my crazy turquoise and orange beach wedding. I would have loved to have made custom bright orange and turquoise wedding sandals. Ah well, it may not be too late for YOU! By the way, this is totally not a sponsored post — I just think that this is a really good idea for wedding party gifts, and bride and groom sandals. Allow me to use my wedding colors to give y’all an idea of what you can do.
So after you chose your base color and your strap color, you can chose to adorn your sandals with charms. Unfortunately you’re limited to these letters and few characters, and you can ONLY do two on each foot. I went for “I heart AF” which are my husband’s initials. Adorable, right?
Speaking of my husband, these would have looked cute with his linen suit:
And if not just for the photo op, you could customize the groom’s sandals with the same “I heart” design, but with the bride’s initials.
You could outfit your entire bridal party in a rainbow of amazing sandal options, and possible charms, to compliment each person’s personality:
The possibilities are endless! Okay, not endless because, clearly, there’s a limited number of combinations. But the possibilities are at least exciting to think about. It would be cool if Havaianas added more characters and customization options soon. Ooh, and if they added number charms you could rock your wedding date!
Anywhoo… custom Havaianas. Apparently it’s a THING now … and they’re pretty freaking rad.
There are some weddings that come through my inbox where I think, “Oh man, I wish I’d be invited to that party”, which was most definitely the case with Brandy and Doug’s wedding, photographed by Heirloom Creative. Held on a small beach in South Carolina, the couple threw the ultimate backyard wedding (if your backyard happens to include an incredible views of the ocean).
And, to me, it looks like Brandy and Doug (and all of their guests) had seriously good time; judging by the couple’s smiles and the amount of love Heirloom Creative captured, I’d say their wedding details – barefoot on the beach, a serious dance party, the “Fortune Telling for Brides” book and tree carving – fit them to a tee. Talk about a happy, relaxed day…

Did you create any DIY projects?
ok, special DIY projects were basically left up to my mother (Helene) who has a “craft/painting” business in Pennsylvania. She did every bit of decorating for us, down to the mason jar/Folly Beach Sand chandeliers that hung throughout the reception area (absolutely amazing!!!) She’s the one you should be interviewing!
What was the most meaningful part of your day?
The most meaningful part of our day came unexpectedly…. While taking “bridal party” pictures at the driftwood forest at the Washout (the very tip of Folly Beach), our photographer produced a pocket knife for us to carve our names into the wood and seal the deal, so to speak, hahaha. I’ll never forget the look in Doug’s eyes when he had FINALLY carved “D + B Forever” in a crooked heart.
Did anything funny or out of the ordinary happen?
Nothing went wrong… pretty out of the ordinary, if you know us.

Not to go all Beach Boys on you, but there is something about Southern California, isn’t there? The sandy beaches, blue skies, convertibles, sunny days… it all makes me doubly-happy that Spring is on its way! And, this session by Betwixt Studio is what I think of as a quintessential San Diego shoot – Lindsay and Blair first take an ocean drive in her dad’s Corvette, then a spin on their Cruiser bikes, and finish up, where else but, at the beach.
It’s a lovely engagement shoot, featuring a couple that looks totally at home with each other and in laid-back surroundings. So sit back, relax and enjoy a bit of sunshine…
