Wedding Dress Designer: Mark Zunino

A designer bridal collection inspired by Hollywood royalties Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Sophia Loren? Yes, please. You can feel the inspiration from each of these personalities taking shape throughout Zunino’s designs.

zuninochapeltrain

Zunino designs for a woman with distinctive style but also seems to strike a soft balance in his bridal collection. This chiffon chapel train gown will surely make brides feel spotlight worthy while the sweetheart neckline and keyhole detail infuse a soft femininity.

How could you not feel like a princess in this sweetheart ball gown in silk chiffon complete with a belted bodice? Certainly for the bride that wants to make a beautiful statement in a subtle pink.

zuninoballgown

A puffed ball gown skirt with a hand-beaded lace up bodice will stun everyone as soon as you walk down the aisle. We love the so very Audrey opera length gloves Zunino added to this look.

The most beautiful part of Mark Zunino’s Spring 2013 bridal gowns though is the range of styles. From tailored lace and silk satin charmeuse to floral-trimmed mermaids, we’re pretty sure there’s one that’ll bring out your own modern Hollywood stardom for your walk down the aisle. Wedding Inspiration From The 2013 Oscar Carpet

Wedding Inspiration From the 2013 Oscar Red Carpet

The Oscars didn’t provide many surprises last night (Russell Crowe still can’t sing, Anne Hathaway wore Gwyneth’s dress picked up a statue for Best Actress) but who knew there would be so much wedding inspiration? From  Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum’s opening dance number— which is sure to have couples signing up for lessons in droves today— to Ben Affleck’s loving words to Jennifer Garner (“Thank you for working on our marriage…there’s no one I’d rather work with”) we feverishly took notes for you during the red carpet parade before the actual ceremony began.

Top Oscar night trends: bare shoulders, subdued jewelry, necklaces that drop delicately down the back, minimal makeup and undone hair, fishtail hems and nude or pale gowns.

Charlize Theron: This Dior Couture column gown with a sparkling peplum is simple, yet fashion forward. We love the simple styling, with bangles on both wrists.

Queen Latifah: We were wowed by this flattering Badgley Mischka—and Latifah’s sleek style altogether!

Jessica Chastain: This champagne Armani gown worked well with Chastain’s pale good looks, mostly because she chose great accessories—including a bold berry lip.

Jennifer Lawrence: A gown for a girl who’s been planning her wedding her whole life, this is also Dior Couture.

Amy Adams: This romatically ruffled silvery-grey Oscar de la Renta elicited the most gasps and sighs at our watch party! Truly, a gown fit for a princess.

Honorable mention to Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman (Harvey Weinstein’s lovely lady) for making a bump work on the red carpet! This would be a great bridal look for someone who’s walking down the aisle with child.

Bridal Hair and Makeup Inspiration

Say it with me: bold eyes, strong lips, can’t lose.  Remember when considering how you’ll do your bridal makeup that what we saw last night won’t translate well to wedding day photos. Choose a strong eye (Adele, Reese Witherspoon] or deeply colored lip [Jessica Chastain] so that your features stand out rather than fade away.

And while there was lots of “I don’t care” hair (can someone please get Kristen Stewart some shampoo?) There was also lots of great retro glamour in hairstyles, from Reese and Jessica’s Veronica Lake-style waves to Stacy Kiebler’s art-deco bob and Adele’s gorgeous half updo. Your wedding is a day you want to look like you put your back into it.

Bridesmaid Style

bridesmaids

In a sea of neutrals, these women stood out in colorful gowns that we’d love to see on a bridesmaid—from Kerry Washington’s sparkling Miu Miu gown to Jennifer Aniston’s bold red Valentino and our favorite, Jennifer Garner’s plum pretty Prada with a cascade of ruffles.  (We left out Jane Fonda’s yellow stunner—that’s strictly advanced style, ladies. Maybe for your second wedding.)

What were your favorite Oscar styles? Will the red carpet inspire your wedding look?

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story:
Adam and I were both dating other people and met one night at my friend’s restaurant. We were hooked from that moment. We became each others’ other half…honestly…it’s an incredible feeling to know within minutes that this is the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. I feel like we are twin souls…that we have known each other long before we met.

What was the theme | design inspiration for your wedding?
We are both “old souls”…with that said we were inspired to have a vintage looking wedding…we decided on the 50′s and 60′s style of Palm Springs as our inspiration. We really wanted our wedding to have a cocktail party “feel” for our friends to enjoy. We didn’t want it to feel like a wedding, but more of a celebration.

Adam and I both decided on The Riviera because of their Palm Springs history which was even noted in our retro Save the Dates and Invitations!

Tell us about the attire for both bride and groom:
Very classic. The men wore clean-lined simple tuxedos. I wore a long champagne colored gown by Anna’s Bridal with my grandmother’s brooch on the back. I then changed into a short bustled cocktail dress by Melissa Sweet for the reception. For both dresses I had 2 different vintage Stuart Weitzman shoes in honor of El Paseo Drive. I found one pair at a local vintage shop in Palm Springs!

Favorite design element of your big day:
I loved the hotel it really fit with our personalities…it was hard to mess up with anything when you had such a fabulous venue!

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?
Not having any clue what the hotel would look like! I booked the venue site by drawings and fabric samples in an offsite location; not to mention we live in Portland and had limited times in our schedule to see how the hotel was coming along. However I knew within 20 minutes that I was taking the risk. I knew that if it was anything close to the drawings it would have to be the place, and it was!

What advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
Don’t get overworked or overwhelmed about the little things. Remember why you’e getting married; it’s because of the other person not the event!

Best advice someone told you at the wedding?
Honestly, I can’t remember…it all went by so fast!

Any specific reasons behind certain choices you made for your day? Maybe flowers that were mom’s favorite, or the first dance song was the first song you ever heard together…that kind of thing?
- My cake topper was my grandmother’s. She had it on her cake and my mother had it on hers!
- Adam’s family’s priest from Oregon flew in to marry us, which was so wonderful and sentimental!
- Our band was like our wedding theme they played music from the 40′s to the 70′s and we loved every minute.
- Our first dance song was “Send Me” by Sam Cooke.

Tell me something about your photographer, Beautiful Day Photography, that you absolutely loved:
I loved Laura from the moment I met her. I looked through 5 pictures and knew she was the one to understand my vision. I was adamant that our pictures weren’t too posed. I wanted a lot of action shots and just fun pictures that captured who we are and Laura did just that by having fun with us and really getting to know us on a personal level. My pictures prove it! Adam and I even invited her to Oregon to come visit!

indian-wedding-1_0indian-wedding-1indian-wedding-2indian-wedding-3indian-wedding-4The details are bold, colorful, and make a huge impact. But, amidst all the bling and baubles, I found this modern, chic tablescape that I am tempted to use as the inspiration for my next dinner party.tablescape1tablescape2It’s simple really, a few floating candles, some modern vases, crystals, a couple hydrangeas, toss a few rose petals, and voila! You have HUGE impact and successfully scored a ten on the domestic goddess scale!  This is my absolute favorite part of being a wedding blogger; finding fabulous Indian wedding ideas that allow us to bring a little Maharani into our everyday lives.  Cheers, everyone, and I would love to know, how do you bring glamour to your day?

Lama and Faisal’s Very Stylish Engagement Shoot

I love that your engagement photos can be all about who you are as a couple. So far this month we’ve had an eclectic camper van shoot, Harry Potter fans, a skateboarding session, a glamorous proposal and a couple up for all sorts of fun. You can really do anything!

Add to it, today’s photo session by the talented BH Photography. Lama and Faisal are an incredibly stylish couple who wanted their engagement photos to reflect that. So, they headed to the Opus Hotel in Montreal for a backdrop of hotels, boutiques and museums. The result looks like something off the pages of a magazine, don’t you think?
