Cherries Flowers

I love these Spring days with warm sun pouring through the windows, birds chirping, thoughts of easy, breezy days, and, of course, wedding season. It’s the beginning of a time so romantic and wistful. That’s precisely why San Francisco-based, Cherries Flowers, had me from the get go with their enchanting and artistic floral designs. At once refined and unaffected, their designs have an elegant yet sweetly approachable quality. One look through their portfolios and you’ll see that they’re not afraid of a little whimsy either. And, that combination is just the ticket for my kind of wedding.

Mission District & City Hall Wedding Inspiration Shoot from Locally Grown Weddings

lgw03-7161-1514507045-o

I woke up this morning to a very cold and blustery day, and I definitely had a case of the blahs until I saw this gorgeously cheerful wedding inspiration shoot by Aurora Meneghello of Locally Grown Weddings.  The shoot’s styling is done by eco-friendly experts and vendors and the result is fantastic! Check out real-life couple Tina and Travis as they enjoy a beautiful San Francisco “faux” wedding day!

Thoughts from Locally Grown Weddings:

Styling a faux wedding is always a fun adventure! From developing the concept to bringing all the elements together into one cohesive story, it is such a creative process. For our Mission photo shoot, the vision and design stemmed from a real-life couple, Tina and Travis, who just got married in San Francisco this July. We were excited to collaborate and find ways to incorporate elements of their real wedding plans into our storyline.

As residents of San Francisco’s vibrant Mission District, it was a no-brainer for the team to focus the shoot around key landmarks in this bustling neighborhood. Dolores Park is an integral part of the Mission landscape and where the couple spends a lot of time hanging out with their friends. It was also the perfect setting for a picnic feast of delicious food prepared by Chef Stephanie. The meal was a combination of seasonal favorites including quinoa tabouli with English cucumbers and cherry tomatoes, minted red beets with goat cheese and herb roasted chicken with artichoke heart pesto. And while we couldn’t bring the Ojai Ice Cream shop into the Mission, we had the next best thing – ice cream sundaes from Bi-Rite Creamery. Yum!

Tina and Travis are avid cyclists and first met through the Mission Cycling Club on a bike trip through the town of Ojai. For their actual wedding, they chose light blue and tangerine as their colors to honor the “Mission blue” of their cycling club and also the renowned “Ojai orange”, which also happens to be the flavor of ice cream Travis enjoyed on that first bike ride together. Madeline wove these two colors into their floral design, as well as those adorable Toms shoes that Tina and Travis were sporting. We’re all big fans of the magical blend of comfort, style, and social responsibility that Tom’s shoes bring to the fashion industry!

Adele Weschler provided us with a stunning dress from her eco-conscious collection of bridal gowns. In keeping with Tina’s personal style, we chose something that was sporty and fun, the kind of dress where a bride could say her vows and then hop right on to her 10-speed for an epic ride with her new hubby. Travis got to have a test run of the suit he’ll be wearing this month when he says “I do”.

And while most of the day’s shoot was a step or two from their real wedding plans, it was a fun adventure for our lovely couple. We chatted with the couple after the photo shoot and both of them remarked on how the shoot was a fun way for them to step outside of their comfort zones and have a little bit of role-playing for the day.

We wrapped up our shoot where they’ll begin this next stage of their lives together – at San Francisco’s City Hall. It’s a landmark in this gorgeous city of ours and provided a stately backdrop to the fun and playful day we’d built as well as a nod to their real wedding plans.

The highlights of the shoot? Working with a couple who are in love with one another and their home turf and being able to capture that essence in a perfect, sunny day in the neighborhood.

A Fun San Francisco Rainy Day Engagement Session from Offbeat Bride & Grandeur Photography

Roderic and Anna are a super fun couple, whose wedding will be held in San Francisco in September. Photographer Renae Lamb of Grandeur Photography told us that they ended up getting rained on during their engagement session but they toughed it out anyway, and thankfully they did because these photos are just amazing. Carousels, funky colored walls, creative photos with an umbrella… you’ll feel like you just had a romantic tour of San Francisco after viewing.

How did you two meet?

We met through mutual friends at a dinner party in one of San Francisco’s most popular restaurant/nightclubs. At first we didn’t get a chance to really get to talk since it was mostly a group setting. The rendezvous was enough to get us in touch with each other over the next few months. Though our paths didn’t really end up crossing until 10 months later. Once we officially started dating, we both knew that this was something real.

How did you know she was “the one”?

For me, it’s hard to say when I knew she was the one, but I wouldn’t say it was an exact moment. We started out so strong and we were so in sync from the moment we became official. I remember very early on thinking, “Wow, I could really marry this girl.” Which soon became, “She is so amazing, I can’t see myself NOT marrying this girl.” So it wasn’t a specific event, just a long lasting perfect relationship from day one.

Please, tell us about the proposal!

The proposal took place on a calm and clear night on a private beach in Hawaii. We were on vacation in a quiet neighborhood on Oahu. It was far past her bedtime but the scene was so perfect. I convinced her to take a late night walk with me, we walked for about a half hour and I was so nervous. I kept twiddling the ring in my pocket just to make sure I wouldn’t lose it. I noted the spot by a huge palm tree near the edge of the shore. I wanted to be able to find this place again. I dropped to one knee and the rest is history. It was a night we’ll never forget.

Anything special about the engagement shoot or why you chose the location you did?

We met and fell in love in San Francisco. We wanted to choose places that we would recognize, that would remind us of the great times we had in this great city. The places we chose could only be found here but were not the typical places somebody from outside of San Francisco may have picked. When friends come to visit, we love taking them to these places.

A San Francisco Day After Shoot from Emily Takes Photos

Remember how last week I went all gaga for Jason and Grace’s DIY wedding from Emily Takes Photos? Well, they’re back! This time with their Day After shoot, which has the same eclectic, fun vibe as their wedding but features some of their favorite San Francisco hang outs – Mission Pie, the Embarcadero, and the hills above the city in Bernal Heights.

And, I think these photos exemplify what I like best about Day Afters – all of the wedding excitement is over so the couple is free to relax and just be themselves, making for very natural shots. I’ve got to think, too, the whole session is a blast; it’s not passing in such a blur like your wedding day and you don’t have a constant to do list running through your head. Oh, and, did I mention you get to wear your dress again? Yep, thinking Day Afters are the way to go…

Rose and Dylan’s San Francisco Engagement Session by Daniela DeGrassi

Oh, Nelly, we are feeling the love around here! With the engagement shoots we’ve been getting, every day is starting to feel like Valentine’s Day around here. Case in point, today’s engagement session from Daniela DeGrassi. Rose and Dylan are playful, stunning, and, yes, generate some serious heat.

And, what a variety of settings! (Full disclosure: I live in San Francisco so I have a bit of an affinity for the place). There’s the beach, the lake at the Palace of Fine Arts, foggy cliffs and, my personal favorite, the Jazz murals, where it feels like the portraits are almost a part of the shoot.

Make sure to keep reading after the photos as today we have something we don’t often have – the proposal from the Groom’s perspective…

Dylan talks about the proposal

The plan was…well, there were so many plans that got left in the planning room for one reason or another. Some of them were wildly original, while others were merely simple and sentimental. What finally transpired was a pared down version of something I thought of on a walk that she and I had taken more than a year ago to a place called Crocker Park. A quaint little neighborhood park, Crocker was the urban surbananite’s minimalist tribute to the outdoors, with its delightfully manicured rolling hills of green grass and tidily trimmed shrubs, neatly tucked in at the corner of Hampton Road and King Avenue in Piedmont. There is but a single park bench along the path that bisects the field of green which is where it was all going to go down.

I was going to coax her into going for a walk together one evening after work. That wouldn’t be hard because she loved doing stuff like that. Getting her to drive about 18 miles before taking that walk would be a challenge, but she always enjoyed a surprise. We would park the car and walk and talk and enjoy the majestic views and then take a break at the aforementioned green slatted wooden seat. It would be there that I would feign an untied shoe. Dropping to a knee to rectify that situation, I would produce something shiny from my jacket pocket and reach for her left hand as I looked into her eyes and began to speak. At precisely  the moment when she would be overcome by emotion, I would have enlisted one of my co-conspirators, dressed in a black suit, and donning a ceremonial towel on one arm, bottle of champagne in one hand, and flutes in the other. I had even entertained the thought of having  several of our other friends emerge from hiding to immediately offer congratulations.

Mother Nature and her tempestuous infant son El Nino had other ideas. It seemed to rain for 18 or 19 days straight. Meanwhile, I noticed that she was becoming visibly stressed out with wedding planning. Eager to bring back that million dollar smile that I adore so much, I knew that there was no more time to wait.

Thanks to the wonders of SMS text messaging, I was able to notify a friend discreetly while watching the game that Operation Ring was being put into action immediately. Weather did not permit the walk so I had to go with the element of surprise.

Cool and un-assuming, I stole off to the kitchen to do the dishes as she sat watching Niece Nash and the new cast of Clean House: Messiest Homes in America. When I got the text that my accomplice had reached our parking lot, I discreetly disappeared to the hall bathroom that just so happens to be adjacent to our front door. There I sat and waited patiently.

A little earlier, I had placed a bottle of Freixenet champagne and accompanying flutes on our porch. The doorbell rang as I sat patiently in complete silence. I could tell that she was trying to ignore it and wait for me to see who it was. When she realized that I wasn’t available to answer it she went to the door. Bathroom door still closed, I could not see what must’ve been a look of utter bewilderment on her face as our friend was standing there announcing his intention to help celebrate the good news, flutes and bottle of bubbly in outstretched hands. Still confused, she turned to look and see me kneeling behind her with a little red box sitting in my left hand, and being opened by my right…
