Real Wedding Re-Run: Xian and Sam’s Classic Wedding with Vintage Details by The Collection

I saw this wedding this morning, and knew I had to rerun it. A year later, it is still just as gorgeous..

The first thing that stands out about Xian and Sam’s wedding is their smiles; this is a couple who looks like they are having a good time (I mean, they give each other high-fives after exchanging rings – how can you not love that?).

And then you notice the colors (captured beautifully by The Collection), which give the day a fresh modern feel – the bright red of the bouquets against the bridesmaids’ teal dresses and the browns paired with the teal again of the table settings. And then there are the little details – the fact the wedding was held at an observatory, the ring bearers’ suitcases, the individually crafted terrariums on each table, the groomsmen’s large, gold belt buckles…Oh, and their cake table where they have little replicas of themselves on their cake!

The result? A classic yet totally modern wedding that is filled with fun and love, don’t you agree?

Polly and Mick’s Laid-Back Outdoor Wedding by Kate Belle Photography

When Kate Belle sent over her photos of Mick and Polly’s wedding, I immediately fell in love. These two look so comfortable and happy, you can’t help but enjoy their day along with them. And it truly looks like it was a laid-back affair (the stunning ceremony site that feels like they just happened upon it, the easiness of her gorgeous dress, the fact that Mick went surfing the morning of the wedding), which, I’m sure, belies all the hard work and hours that went into making it look that way!

Polly gives us her thoughts after the photos so be sure to keep reading.

Polly Tells Us About Their Wedding

How did you meet?
We’re old school friends. After years of persistence on Mick’s behalf I finally gave in at the end of Uni and we started dating. But I think I was the most surprised that we had finally gotten together – everyone else had been expecting it for years!

Where was your wedding?
Peppers Coorabell Retreat, Byron Hinterland NSW (in Australia) – the place, food and staff were absolutely amazing. We couldn’t recommend the place high enough.

What was your wedding style?
Relaxed, natural and happy! We’re both outdoor people so we wanted a ceremony under the trees among beautiful surrounds. We’d had lots of rain in the lead up to the day so everything was very green and lush!

Favourite part of your wedding?
Walking up to Mick and seeing tears in his eyes! And my Dad playing a song for me on his saxophone during the reception.

Any special or funny details?
Mick and the boys went surfing together on the wedding day. Everyone was very emotional and we all shared plenty of happy tears! Also, Mick made rocky road for all the guests to eat or take home, but it was scoffed down within minutes!

Advice for other brides and grooms?
Stay organised but relaxed and plan everything together so the day represents both of you. Enjoy it!!

A Classic Museum Wedding by Justin DeMutlis Photography

What a pretty wedding we have for you today! Carissa and Patrick were married at the Ringling Museum, and let’s just say, there was nary a clown car in site. Rather it was an event that lived up to the grandness and elegance of the venue (captured beautifully by Justin DeMutlis Photography), but with the intimacy of a couple who was really enjoying their day.

And the classic detailing! From Patrick’s tux, to the ruffles on Carissa’s train (perfect for dancing), to the simple elegance of their cake, each element matched the grandeur of the space. It looks like it was a truly gorgeous day.

Carissa and Patrick were kind enough to send over a ton of details about their day with lots of excellent advice for those of you in the planning stages. Make sure to check them out after the photos!

Carissa and Patrick’s Thoughts:

Did your wedding location and date hold a special significance for you?
We wanted to get married in a place that was romantic and had a lot of history.  After visiting many locations, we realized that we wanted a unique venue, and not the typical hotel ballroom. We stumbled upon the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art on our way home one weekend. Before we even set foot on the property, we knew that this was where we want to get married. We loved the renaissance sculptures, and unique history behind the property.  In the past, John and Mable Ringling would allow the public to get married in their rose garden. It was their way of sharing their love of marriage. We chose to have our wedding in the Ringling Courtyard outside, and were so excited to offer our guests the opportunity after the wedding to go into the art museum.

When choosing our wedding date we knew we wanted it to be on the 5th. The 5th is significant to us for many reasons: we went on our first date, Patrick proposed, we had our engagement party, and lastly we were married on March 5th, 2011.

Tell us about the details of the day.
We had about a year to plan our wedding. There were certain details about the wedding that were very important to us including the food, music, and photography.  First, we wanted to make sure that we maintained a high quality of food and service for our guests. Since the Ringling Museum doesn’t have a kitchen available, it was important for us to book a cater that had a portable kitchen that would allow them to cook the food on site instead of preparing it ahead of time. We liked how our cater had the servers take our guests’ orders that night, and our guests were extremely impressed with the quality of the food. Also, we wanted to have a band that would be able to entertain a wide variety of audiences. We’ve seen our band perform at many local venues and knew that they would be a perfect fit for our wedding.

Finding an amazing photographer to capture such an important day was crucial for us. Once we saw Justin DeMuttis’s photography we knew we had to have him as our wedding photographer.  Justin captures moments unlike the other photographers we had seen prior to meeting with him.  Another plus was that Justin was familiar with the wedding location.

Since the Ringling Museum is owned and operated by the state of Florida, there are many rules that we had to follow. Therefore, it was important to us to hire a wedding planner who had done weddings there and was familiar with the property and its rules and regulations. Hiring Justin Demuttis and Anna Pohl (wedding planner), were two of the best decisions we had made for our wedding, and my recommendation to other couples getting married.

Lastly, we wanted to set the tone of our wedding through our wedding invitations. Hedi at Stationary Loft helped us to create one of kind invitations that were modern and classy with purple, gold, and fuchsia accents. We found it extremely helpful to have Hedi also create our wedding programs.

How was the wedding day?
On the day of the wedding, the weather was gorgeous. It was a perfect Spring Florida weather. Carissa got ready with her bridesmaid at the Ritz Carlton and Patrick got ready with his groomsmen at the Hyatt Regency. One of the most important options for us was to do a pre-formal photo session/ first look prior to our ceremony. We wanted to capture many of the incredible locations on the Ringling campus (the Cà d’Zan mansion next to the Sarasota Bay, banyan trees, rose garden). During the first look, our photographers instructed Patrick to stand in front of the Cà d’Zan mansion while I walked up to him. It was such a surreal moment; we had our entire wedding party cheering on in the background. It was a perfect moment to start of a perfect evening.

Our ceremony started at 6:15 PM in the Ringling Courtyard, right before the sunset.  We got married under a chuppah that Carissa’s dad build, and this was one of the most incredible structures we have seen. Rabbi Arthur Baseman and Den Chinsonboon were amazing officiants.   Their words were both beautiful and meaningful.  Rabbi Baseman was also able to manage to get a few laughs from our guests.  Even today, many of our guests are still talking about how amazing Rabbi Baseman was.   Throughout the night, our wedding coordinator, Anna, was amazing.  She would always make sure that we, along with the guests were taken care of.  We had such a fabulous time at our wedding.  The music and food were amazing; everyone was dancing and having a good time.  Before we realized, it was 11:30 and the last song was ending.  Yet, it was difficult to tell that this was the end as the dance floor was still filled with people.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding?
For our guests staying at hotels, we created our own gift baskets that matched our wedding colors of purple and fuchsia. Inside we wanted to make sure that our guests were informed of all activities, maps of Sarasota, chocolate M&M’s with our faces/names, bottled water with our names, and additional items (toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss).  We would definitely recommend making a gift basket to other brides and grooms as a way to welcome and thank your guests for taking the time to come to your event.  Also, hire vendors early, hire an experienced wedding planner, and definitely take advantage of the pre-formal/first look.

Any final thoughts?
It has been more than a month since our wedding has past.  We still find ourselves in many occasions talking about the fun we had that night and looking at the amazing photos that Justin took.  It will be very difficult for us to choose for our photo book.  We wish that we can go back to that day and experience it again, but we are extremely excited to share the next chapter of our lives together! To brides and grooms getting married, make sure to take a moment during the wedding and enjoy!

Lauren and Tony’s Eco-Friendly Rustic Wedding by Jenna Walker Photography

Happy Tuesday! Here is a little flashback to an awesome autumn wedding we featured several months ago by Jenna Walker Photography!

It wasn’t too long ago that we featured a mountain wedding, but when Lauren and Tony’s wedding by Jenna Walker Photography came across my desk I knew that I had to share it.  Whereas Katie and Nick’s wedding was all about classic detailing, Lauren and Tony’s has a sense of rustic elegance that perfectly fits the wide-open spaces of their venue. (Full editorial disclosure: An owner of Devil’s Thumb Ranch is an investor in mywedding.com).

From Lauren’s lovingly worn cowboy boots, to their sunflower centerpieces in wooden boxes, to their jaunt down a country road, their details give a nod to their Western locale while still staying true to their wedding’s overall elegance. And just by virtue of having their wedding at Devil’s Thumb Ranch the couple’s wedding was very eco-friendly (the venue features geothermal heat, a water sand filtration system and organic food) but they took it one step further using organic flowers and plants that could be reused.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story:
Adam and I were both dating other people and met one night at my friend’s restaurant. We were hooked from that moment. We became each others’ other half…honestly…it’s an incredible feeling to know within minutes that this is the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. I feel like we are twin souls…that we have known each other long before we met.

What was the theme | design inspiration for your wedding?
We are both “old souls”…with that said we were inspired to have a vintage looking wedding…we decided on the 50′s and 60′s style of Palm Springs as our inspiration. We really wanted our wedding to have a cocktail party “feel” for our friends to enjoy. We didn’t want it to feel like a wedding, but more of a celebration.

Adam and I both decided on The Riviera because of their Palm Springs history which was even noted in our retro Save the Dates and Invitations!

Tell us about the attire for both bride and groom:
Very classic. The men wore clean-lined simple tuxedos. I wore a long champagne colored gown by Anna’s Bridal with my grandmother’s brooch on the back. I then changed into a short bustled cocktail dress by Melissa Sweet for the reception. For both dresses I had 2 different vintage Stuart Weitzman shoes in honor of El Paseo Drive. I found one pair at a local vintage shop in Palm Springs!

Favorite design element of your big day:
I loved the hotel it really fit with our personalities…it was hard to mess up with anything when you had such a fabulous venue!

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?
Not having any clue what the hotel would look like! I booked the venue site by drawings and fabric samples in an offsite location; not to mention we live in Portland and had limited times in our schedule to see how the hotel was coming along. However I knew within 20 minutes that I was taking the risk. I knew that if it was anything close to the drawings it would have to be the place, and it was!

What advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
Don’t get overworked or overwhelmed about the little things. Remember why you’e getting married; it’s because of the other person not the event!

Best advice someone told you at the wedding?
Honestly, I can’t remember…it all went by so fast!

Any specific reasons behind certain choices you made for your day? Maybe flowers that were mom’s favorite, or the first dance song was the first song you ever heard together…that kind of thing?
- My cake topper was my grandmother’s. She had it on her cake and my mother had it on hers!
- Adam’s family’s priest from Oregon flew in to marry us, which was so wonderful and sentimental!
- Our band was like our wedding theme they played music from the 40′s to the 70′s and we loved every minute.
- Our first dance song was “Send Me” by Sam Cooke.

Tell me something about your photographer, Beautiful Day Photography, that you absolutely loved:
I loved Laura from the moment I met her. I looked through 5 pictures and knew she was the one to understand my vision. I was adamant that our pictures weren’t too posed. I wanted a lot of action shots and just fun pictures that captured who we are and Laura did just that by having fun with us and really getting to know us on a personal level. My pictures prove it! Adam and I even invited her to Oregon to come visit!
