A Ghost Town Engagement Session by Photography by Verdi

There are lots of things to love about Jennifer and Stefano’s engagement session by Photography by Verdi – the location is creative and interesting, taking place at an old Ghost Town called Goldfield, which also happens to feature stunning backdrops; their wedding sounds like a blast – Stefano is Italian so they’ll be taking the whole gang over to Italy for the Big Day; and their looks match the location perfectly – dressy with a nod to Western, but not over-the-top.

But what I love most about their shoot is their genuine affection for each other. When you look back over your engagement photos you want to see the love, and, dear readers, can’t you just see it? They look completely relaxed with each other, whether they’re laughing, posing on a roadside sign or looking deep into each others’ eyes (which I know from experience is much harder than it looks…).

Be sure to keep reading after the photos to hear the deets on their engagement. Very, very romantic, I promise you…

Jennifer and Stefano’s Thoughts:

How did you two meet?
Jennifer moved to Phoenix in 2005 for a software support position at a high tech company. Stefano took a microchip analog design position at the same high tech company in 2005.  She loves her job, she loves the company she works for, and most of all, she loves the engineer she supported and sat next to for 3 years!  He was looking for a career change, little did he know he’d also meet his soul mate! Stefano and Jennifer no longer sit next to each other, but they’re still inseparable!

How did you know he/she was “the one”?
It may sound cliche, but we both just “knew”.

Please, tell us about the proposal!
Stefano and Jenn spent most of the summer 2009 remodeling Jenn’s master bathroom. They finished Labor Day weekend and decided to celebrate by going to Sedona the weekend before her 30th birthday. Stefano booked a gorgeous bed and breakfast in Sedona, each room with its own hot tub on the patio over looking the red mountains…very romantic!

Unfortunately, the Thursday before they left, Sedona had a huge rain storm. Mudslides piled up cars in the Talaquepaque parking lot! Floods trapped people in their homes! They quickly cancelled their reservation and went to Flagstaff for the weekend. He found a cute little bed and breakfast in an old historical house about a mile from downtown. It was raining there too, but they were happy to get away from Phoenix and away from the bathroom remodeling!

They spent the day walking to town and doing a little shopping. When they returned to the room, there was a bottle of champagne on ice waiting for their arrival. Jenn figured something must be up. Stefano said he wanted to celebrate her birthday early since family was coming to town the following weekend. He ran out to the car to pick up her birthday gift. It was a heavy box with a pink bow on top and a little card. She opened it up and there was another box inside with another card, this card a little sweeter than the first. She opened that one to find another box with another card! He had about 5 or 6 boxes each with a card that got sweeter and sweeter until the last box was opened with a card that said “will you marry me?” and a beautiful ring that he designed!

Jenn said YES! Although she does occasionally tease him about not having an engagement ring since this was technically a birthday gift.

Anything special about the engagement shoot or why you chose the location you did?
Stefano is from Italy, his entire family lives in Italy, Jenn’s entire family lives several thousand miles from Phoenix and hasn’t been to Italy, so what better place to have their wedding?

To add a little American flare to their wedding with a touch of true Western heritage, the couple chose Apache Junction for their engagement photos. Along with the town’s authentic ruggedness, the couple’s favorite valley mountains (the Superstitions) serve as the perfect back drop for their photo shoot.

A Playful Farm Engagement Session from 2&3 Photography

Nick and Nikki’s engagement shoot by 2&3 Photography is almost like two separate sessions. In the first set, they get to run around a farm (photographer Thad’s dad’s place) and play on old-fashioned swings, pull each other in wagons, pose in front of old trucks and just generally have a great time together (and get some adorable shots along the way).

For the second part, they get all gussied up for a series of romantic shots that capture the genuine affection they obviously have for each other. Put the two together and it’s like the perfect marriage of playful and romantic…

And, as if the photos aren’t enough, Nick jumps in and give us all the details on their proposal, the location and how he knew Nikki was the one (sigh).

How did you two meet?
It was Nikki’s freshman year of college. She had posted on our school message boards for help getting her printer hooked up and I offered to come take a look at it. We hadn’t set up a time for me to come by her dorm yet when we unknowingly sat next to each other in biology lab. We realized who each other was during attendance and I leaned over and asked “Did you get your printer fixed?”. I walked her back to her dorm and we haven’t been able to get rid of each other since. That was almost 8 years ago.

How did you know he/she was “the one”?
We always joke about how different we are, but in the end we share a lot of core values that I guess we couldn’t find in other people. We’ve spent some time apart over the years, but we’ve always loved and cared for each other and that always brought us back together.

Please, tell us about the proposal!
Nikki’s birthday falls on new years eve, so we decided to have a party to celebrate both occasions. We invited 15 or so of our closest friends to the house. Right after the ball drop and new year’s toast I gave a little speech thanking everybody for joining us for a night of many celebrations (NYE, Nikki’s birthday, and my best friends wedding anniversary) and that I wanted to add one more. I turned to Nikki and told her it wasn’t the first NYE/birthday celebration we’ve shared and I didn’t want it to be the last. I pulled out the ring and said, “so I guess you know what this means?”. Her response was, “Okay!” and she gave me a hug. I didn’t get down on one knee or anything, it was kind of informal.

Anything special about the engagement shoot or why you chose the location you did?
Our whole wedding theme is kind of outdoorsy and vintage. Her dress is her mothers wedding dress and her engagement ring is an estate ring from 1950. We’re having our wedding in our backyard and wanted our engagement photos to reflect those themes. Thad mentioned his father’s property and we thought that would be perfect with the older buildings and nearby fields. The shoot was a ton of fun and the photos came out perfect.

Vanessa and Lee’s Vintage San Diego Engagement Session by Chaz Cruz Photography

Vanessa and Lee’s engagement session features old trucks, an abandoned building and a whole lotta love. They’ll be getting married on their 10th anniversary together and I think their session captures a couple totally comfortable with each other, having a great time.

Vanessa gives us her thoughts on their session: We really wanted to do something different with our engagement photos.  I read wedding blogs almost everyday and love the vintage look, so we tried to incorporate our interests and things that represented us as a couple.  So, we pretty much told our photographer Chaz what we wanted as far as the vintage or rustic look, Lee’s interest in cars, and us loving sports and playing scrabble and he just nailed it when he chose the location.

Vanessa talks about how she and Lee met and gives the inside scoop on their wedding details below.

We’ve known each other since we were really little, playing outside and having sleep overs at my cousins house.  But at that age, you don’t really pay attention to boys or girls in a lovey-dovey sort of way.  Then years go by without us really seeing each other and one summer about 10 years ago me and Lee officially met.  And at that point we were older and clearly into each other.  We hung out every day that I was in Washington that summer and by the end of the summer we eventually became a couple.  I lived in Japan and Lee moved away to Phoenix, AZ and we had a long distance relationship for 3 years.  We had no idea where our relationship was going to go but after 3 long years we both end up moving to San Diego and have been together since.

We both can’t exactly pinpoint when we knew we were “the one” for each other…he always tells people he just knew and I always tell people it was the first time he saw my reaction to the Chargers losing a game and he still stuck with me that I knew he was the one.  But really, we always just knew.

We had always talked about getting married and Lee finally after 9 years said I could go ahead and start planning for the wedding, even though he didn’t officially propose to me yet.  My cousin and I were checking out venues, but no one thought I was engaged since she had the ring and I didn’t.  I, of course gave Lee a hard time about not having a ring and about feeling embarrassed for looking at venues without having been proposed to because Lee hadn’t had a ring yet (so I thought).  Lee, being the nice guy that he is always trying to make me happy, already had a ring and was actually trying to come up with some master plan with my mom and my sister for some elaborate proposal, but because I always ruin surprises, he ended up proposing to me in our cramped up little room with just the two of us in our pj’s. (Which I prefer and love cause it was just us and I get embarrassed easily when we cause a scene.)

Our wedding will be at the Hard Rock Hotel in Downtown San Diego on our 10 year anniversary.  We chose this location since we love downtown and the city lights and Lee is all about architecture and buildings.  And, the location just looks so fun.  The ceremony will be on the rooftop and the reception in one of the ballrooms with a great view of the Convention Center and Gaslamp Quarter.

The hanging LOVE sign we actually bought at Michael’s around the Valentine’s Day holiday. =)  But definitely shout outs to Chaz Cruz for the amazing photos and Judith Cervantes for hair and make up.

Chris and CC’s Totally Glam Woodland Fairy Wedding from Feather Love

This inaugural wedding is a doozy. It’s about as glam as they come, every photo reveals a new, steal-worthy detail and the bride and groom, well, let’s just say they don’t come cooler than Chris and CC. Seriously. I can’t decide if Noa over at Feather Love Photography just happens to shoot the hippest people on the planet or if her skills just bring out the inner Rat Pack in everyone. It’s probably a bit of both.
