Sarah and Ahmd’s Elegant Egyptian Wedding from Wedding Nouveau

Wedding Nouveau is a breath of fresh air on the wedding scene. Editor and Founder Fri features multi-ethnic weddings and inspiration that absolutely pop with personality. We couldn’t be happier to get her take on Fusion weddings every month.

In the spirit of celebrating fusion and global style for today’s modern bride, I’m interested in finding inspiring ways to bring heritage into a cosmopolitan arena.  Or in other words: Make you say “Slap me, that’s gorgeous!”…in many cultures.sarah-ahmd-saadsyedphotography-featureI’m honored to be part of the wedding conversation here at mywedding.com, dishing on all things love, laughter and the pursuit of that perfect wedding memory.  It all begins with a vision…a unique palette that resides in your dreams, that manifests itself in your accidentally genius inspiration board, and finally engraves its voice in the hearts and souls of all who attend your big day.

Regardless of what your flavor is, be it classic or bohemian, rustic or vintage…authenticity in style  should always be the guiding light behind each wedding event.  For Egyptian American couple Sarah and Ahmd, staying true to their culture and faith was not only important, it was as effortless as cotton candy on a breezy carnival day.

Something Southern, Something New. Something Egyptian, and yet…still Blue.

bride-bridesmaids-blue-city-fusionbride-groom-street-veil-tuxbride-groom-muslim-veil-lacebride-looking-shoulder-tux-veilSet in the heart of downtown, Raleigh in North Carolina, Sarah and Ahmd held a classic blue, silver and white ceremony for their guests.

However, if the logistics of sticking to tradition seem rather daunting, there are always ways to achieve the same goal without breaking the bank.  To add a modern spin to the traditional “zaffa” procession, Sarah and Ahmd combined Arabic music and Indian drumming (using a “tabla”) with the western beat of “here-comes-the-bride,” a classic piece of music.centerpiece-flowers-pearls-navywedding-cake-navy-flower-glassgold-charger-navy-napkin-menutable-setting-leaves-snow-navybride-groom-dancing-black-whitegroom-carrying-bride-running-aisleIt’s weddings like these that bring a fresh new twist to the saying: “Something borrowed, something new.”

Make Your Own Tulip Centerpiece from Chelsea at Frolic

Oh, how we love Frolic! Chelsea’s daily inspiration blog is always chock-full of pretty ideas that feel effortless and chic. So, we’re so happy that she’ll be posting DIY projects that easy to do while packing a big punch.full-view-centerpiece-finishedThis floral centerpiece is lush, full and modern but budget friendly and easy to make. Tulips are available in the fall, winter, and spring. During summer, we recommend full, open roses. Total cost: $26.00

supplies-scissors-water-vaseSupplies:
Vase (pictured $3 at Target)
Flower clippers

Flower Recipe:
20 stems of tulips ( aprox $20 from local market)
2 stems nerine lilies ( aprox $3.00 local market)

Steps:
1. Condition flowers: Re-cut stems, place in a bucket of cold water overnight. Keep away from food, fruit and drafts.

2. Remove greens from tulips.

hand-holding-tulips-stems4. Take a few tulips and place in your hand (ex. left hand if you are right-handed)

5. Hold the stems near the bottom of the blossoms, this will help create the lush look. The higher up on the stem you hold the flowers, the tighter the arrangement will be.

6. As you add groups of flowers (about 3 stems each), turn the bouquet to the left.

hand-holding-bouquet-tulips7. You will start to see the stems spiral.

8. Fill in any holes with the Nerine Lilies.

9. Clip the stems approximately 5 inches short and drop into the vase..

Tips/Mistakes: Make sure the tulips are fresh, crisp, and firm to start with. Wilty tulips won’t be able to withstand this much handling. To refresh them, submerge the flowers, blossoms and all, in a bucket of cold water for a few minutes.

Tulips grow in the vase! Your arrangement will grow overnight at least an inch. Cut the stems an inch shorter than necessary to account for this.

centerpiece-pinks-diy-table-settingStyling tip: We paired this with simple white tablecloth and hot pink napkins (From West Coast Event Productions) from a rental company, for a crisp, modern look. We also added a hot pick Ranunculus flower floating in a glass dish for a favor at each place setting.
