William Fogler with Seating Card Ideas for Your Reception

Assigned seating is a special touch that takes a little effort but shows your guests you care; by taking the guesswork out of where to sit you give everyone comfort in knowing you took the time to properly place them. And, by selecting your guests’ seats you can play matchmaker with your single guests, give sports fanatics the chance to rally with one another, and help bring the timid out of their shell.

If you decide to assign your guests to tables consider these guidelines for a well-organized escort table:
- Select an easy to read font or script.
- Make sure the cards are alphabetized.
- Position the table in an easily accessible location.
- Consider a theme.
- Have fun with the design!

Final tip: Remember to make the table user friendly and place it in a well-lit spot so guests can read their names easily.

To get you inspired, here are a few examples of unique approaches to the traditional escort table.

Embroidered Napkins
We personalized and hem stitched napkins as place cards (and blew the minds of everyone at this destination wedding). Each guests’ napkin was embroidered with their name to take home as a wonderful keepsake from this amazing weekend long event.placesetting-amber-wood-flower-139488
Silver Bud Vases
For this wedding, bud vases were tagged with each guest’ seating arrangement, which complimented the centerpiece design at their table. At the end of the event elegant gift boxes were distributed so guests could easily take home their sparkling new vessel.tall-vase-green-flower-placecards-139488
Leaf Design
For this romantic, garden-inspired wedding, names were written on real leaves, which guests then literally “picked” from the vine in order to find their seats.reception-flower-chandelier-lights-139488
Modern Flare
For this sleek and modern wedding design, the seating cards floated above the bride and groom’s names on the dance floor.floating-placecards-white-dark-139488
Mountain Chic
To reflect this fashionista bride who was having a destination wedding in the Rockies, seating cards were hung from an Aspen tree in precious little purses.seeds-ornament-gift-pink-139488
Selecting your guest seats is a detail that really shows your guests that you care about them. Your guests’ comfort is the ultimate goal and, believe me, their enjoyment at your event makes all your planning worthwhile.

Thrifting Antique Silver Pieces for Stunning Centerpieces

Something old, something new,
Something borrowed, something blue
And something silver for you!

If you’re meddling around thrift stores, antique markets and garage sales you can easily find fabulous personalized touches. Treasures such as vintage silver plated tea sets, sugar bowls and candy dishes are easy finds, inexpensive and oh-so-elegant in wedding décor. As a greener alternative, purchasing used items adds a dash of something soulful to your wedding too.

To create your centerpiece you’ll want to build a collection of objects similar in shape and size; consider tea sets of similar scale but varying design. Filled with floral and grouped together, they are stunning and sophisticated. Bargain blooms such as baby’s breath and carnations, used en masse love to live in these stylish pots.  However, make sure your containers are at least three inches deep if you are using them for arrangements – definitely consult your florist first!roses-silver-tea-pot-rings-crystal-long-tablelong-banquet-table-vintage-platters-flowers

Three piece tea sets can be as low as $5.00 making them a steal, just keep in mind, most used silver requires polishing to truly shine.  Totally tarnished is not so pretty, but a bit of patina can add pizzazz.  Use a non-toxic baking soda bath to soak the crud off or consider an eco-friendly dip such as Earth Friendly’s Silver Polish.silver-tea-pot-shelves-william-shopping

Sustainably chic, your carbon foot print will be significantly smaller because of your efforts. And in order to keep the cycle of reusing going, treat them as favors at the end of your event.  Give your pieces as gifts to your most special guests (grandmothers, aunts and godparents) as sweet surprises that create lasting keepsakes they will remember forever.long-table-small-bouquet-centerpieces-roses

New Guest Bloggers, Monogrammed Wedding Vases and More!

bride-groom-funky-pink-shoes-trainers-outdoorsYes, it’s Wednesday and while I normally try and save up link round-ups for Friday, as a sort of celebration of the weekend, there is just too much good stuff out there chompin’ at the bit… I had to share!

Before we get to the links, though, I wanted to make sure we all give a hearty welcome to our newest guest bloggers. Kathleen from Weddings Waterside, debuted today with a gorgeous lakeside wedding; Anne, will be reporting from the front lines of wedding planning with a personal look into her planning process; and Jacin, from the always spot-on Lovely Little Details, has some surprises in store for us next week. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome them to Delightfully Engaged!

Now, onto Wednesday fun!

-This bride basically lived my wedding dream, which is to wear many, many different wedding dresses on the Big Day.

-I’m totally gaga over hair with the lovely, soft waves that are so hot this season. Australia’s newest export, the Wave Clip, promises just that.

-Absolutely adore these monogrammed wedding vases you can customize with the bride and groom’s names and wedding date (via Host It Notes).

-Offbeat Bride has the number one tip to make sure your wedding guests actually go to your wedding website for RSVPs and wedding info. Simple, yet brilliant!

-Oh my, iPhone! Chewing the Cud has just released a series of icards you can send through your phone. And, they are delightful!

-Speaking of iPhones, this bride-to-be has an army of helpers knitting up iPhone cases with the funds all going to a good cause – her wedding day.

-Love the new trend of dainty macarons. A mixed collection of these would be the perfect thank you gift.

-And have to give one more shout-out to For Japan with Love. It’s been a huge success with over $55,000 donated and there’s still time to help if you haven’t yet.

Holiday Gift Ideas for Your New Mother-in-Law (or Mom)

Around here I am definitely the gift giver (let’s just say I have an excel spreadsheet dedicated to the task) so when my husband and I started dating I quickly found myself buying for his family as well. Which I love, except for the fact that mother-in-laws can be kinda tricky to buy for. You want a gift that’s thoughtful and creative, but you often don’t know her well enough yet to know what that might be.

We’ve put together a few ideas to get you started based on her interests, but, as always, you are all the best resource. Let us know in the comments section of other mother-in-law gift ideas you might have; personally, I need one more!

For the Traveler
paris-map-vintage-italian-cookbookShe’s seen the world and has the stories to prove it. Take her back to her days in swinging Pareé with this print of Famille Summerbelle’s hand paper cut-out of Paris, highlighting its main attractions and quirky elements (there are also New York City and London versions). Or bring a taste of Italy into her kitchen with The Silver Spoon cookbook, considered the bible of Italian cooking, featuring over 2,000 recipes.

For the Book Lover
birdhouse-books-penguin-postcards-booksBuying books for someone else can be tricky – you’re not sure what they’ve recently read or if your tastes are truly aligned; Postcards from Penguin takes care of the guess work. While they look like book covers, they’re actually 100 postcards of their most famous books (The Great Gatsby is in there, of course). Or let her put her love of books on display with David Vissat’s Mockingbird Birdhouse, which combines discarded and vintage books with interesting text, and in this case, movie posters to create handmade birdhouses.

For the Brand-New Mother-in-Law
digital-frame-customized-family-tree-necklaceMothers, in general, are fans of showing off their photos and with your stack of wedding photos you’ve got it made. Put your favorites onto a digital photo frame that can be customized with your new name, wedding date, or a simple word (“family” comes to mind). Or show her how much you appreciate the significance of becoming a part of her family with a family tree necklace, also available in sterling silver.

For the Gourmet
whipped-cream-spray-hot-chocolate-cubesIf she’s the type of gal who knows her Roqueforts from her Camemberts, this Gourmet Whip from Williams Sonoma might be right up her alley. With three different nozzles, she can dispense whip cream, soft cheeses and buttercream frostings, all with the touch of a (very classy) button.

Or take her hot cocoa up a notch with Petrossian’s Hot Chocolate-on-a-Stick, a hunk of Belgian chocolate that swirled into a cup of hot milk makes for a decadent treat. Add a touch whip cream from her Gourmet Whip and we are talking heaven…

For the Wine Lover
wine-club-decanter-glasses-reidelWhat to bring an impressive bottle of vino but working within a budget? Accidental Wine features wine that has had a little, well, accident (typically a blemished label, nothing to do with the wine), which means they can sell you really excellent wine for heavily discounted prices. They also have a very affordable wine-of-the-month club, which means you can give her three months of gifts and look like a total super-star.

Or let her show off her sophisticated side with Reidel’s swirl wine glasses and decanter; the rounded bases allow the wine to breathe (good for showing off a wine’s complexities) while the pour spout is specifically designed to be drip-free, thus saving her good table cloth.

For the Home
vase-four-ways-ruffle-crate-barrel
Everyone can always use another vase, especially when they’re as innovative as this 4-in-1 vase from Charles and Marie. Featuring a metallic frame with different sized holes on each side, the vase adapts to whatever size bouquet she may have. Or make flower arranging easy, with the Evelyn vase from Crate and Barrel where the flowers pretty much arrange themselves within the ruffles (my mom has one and it’s gorgeous!).
