It seems like everything from engagement photo sessions to wedding favors have been influenced by the State Fair. If youv’e been trying to incorporate this trend into your wedding plans, you have probably noticed that there is a fine line between carnival chic and circus freak show.

A few helpful suggestions:
-Err on the side of muted tones. Rather than the traditional circus primary colors, use sky blue or light aqua, red, and a pale yellow.
-Don’t assume that this is just a reception idea. As you can see in the images above, taking your “day after” photo session to a carnival is also something that will provide you with an interesting and colorful backdrop.
-If you love this theme, but feel like it would interfere with the vision you have for your wedding day, use other pre-wedding events (note to Mother of the Grooms: rehearsal dinners are often overlooked as an excellent opportunity to plan a fun party without affecting the formality of the wedding).
-Provide continuity. Be subtle, but not minimalist. Add touches of this trend all around.

  1. I have a xmas party at the Ritz Carlton.
The invitation says to dress CARNIVAL CHIC ( no costumes) ! The invitation has a photo of a big ferris wheel and it says “Join us on the Boardwalk”.

    • Hi Sandie!

That is a tough one! Especially since you can’t do a costume.

What about a look from this wedding by one of our fave photographers, Feather Love? http://www.featherlove.com/blog/wedding-of-the-century-kestrin-jonathan/ You’ll have to scroll through most of the post to their third (!) party which was an Alice in Wonderland theme. Everyone though wore very colorful, whimsical clothing that wasn’t costume-y. So maybe you could do a striped dress with a fun hat and your boyfriend could do a suit with a jaunty cap? I think playful and a bit whimsical could take you far…

Let us know what you come up with and send a pic if you think of it!

      Hope this helps!

  2. One best way to decorate your wedding reception is chair covers. And I don’t mean boring white chair covers with boring colored tie. But stretchy chair cover with signature bow that looks like a real rose, or wildflower or peacock feather and many more inspired looks. You have to see the website to find the chair bow that will accent your wedding theme: http://www.satinchaircovers.com.
You will be impressed.. I promise!
