You know how some people know all the new bands and when you ask them an easy question like, “What’s your first dance song?” they rattle off some obscure name that sounds like they’re just plucking random words out of the air and putting them together? Dr. Dog! Neutral Milk Hotel! The Lemon Pipers! And, then you have to stand there, hoping against hope that they don’t ask you about your first dance song because you know your iPod only features people that go by their first name? Yeah, that would be me.
As hard as I try, I’m totally, completely band challenged. I have the same 15 artists on rotation on my iPod and let me put it this way…Boys 2 Men is currently playing in the coffee shop where I’m working (I know, right?) and not only do I know every word, honey, I can break it alllll the way down. Part of the issue is that I just have no idea where to start and picking out a song to walk down the aisle to? Forget about it.
Fortunately, Ashley from Hi-Fi Weddings has heard our plea and is here to help! She curates a site that is all about helping you find the perfect music for your wedding day. Not only does she feature playlists from real weddings and engagements, she hooks you up with cool tracks to try, and, my personal favorite, has an incredible list of song ideas to use for your first dance, Father-Daughter dance or just to fill up the dance floor.
And, because her focus is on “music that is true to the soul”, I have a feeling that even die-hard music connoisseurs will find something new to love. Or at least find a space to share their faves with the rest of us.

Get your wedding party involved for a flash mob first dance, think: ‘Thriller’ or ‘Single Ladies’!
When choosing to have your band perform your first dance song make sure that you give them enough time to work on it before the wedding day. The last thing you want is a band rehearsing your 1st dance songs at sound check while guest are arriving. Hire a cover band that is prepared and has requested the music at least 30 days t your wedding day. Most songs can be covered by a good band there are those oldies with a string orchestra that a 5 piece band may not be able to replicate, so choose wisely if you want the band to pull off something not Top 40, Dance, Funk, R& B or… you get the idea!
Good luck,

I am a dj from Houston and about half of the brides we talk to want to stray away from the traditional songs and make their wedding uniquely their own. Most of these brides think they are alone but the truth is the uncommon is becoming the norm. Check out the list of songs real brides have asked us to play at their wedding on our website http://djrobinfo.com/Nontraditional_Wedding_Musi.html
Personalizing the special songs with prerecorded voiceovers can add even more impact. Here are some illustrations: http://www.myrtlebeachdj.com/my-wedding-package/wedding-package-options/prerecorded-voice-overs/

Whether you want simple ambient music or something to get everyone up and dancing, our wedding DJ’s will work to your requirements, playing music to suit your guests, with set ups to suit your budgets.
I’m a DJ and I once did a wedding where the bride gave me a 4 hour playlist of tracks to be played in strict order with no requests.
Tracks went from fast ones to slow ones back to fast ones and many of the records were quite obscure and undanceable. As a result people left early and it wasn’t until gone midnight and their playlist was finished before the dancefloor really got going.
My tip if you are getting married is by all means work with the DJ but listen to his or her advice. Your DJ should know what will work best.
