Max and Molly’s Inspired Save-the-Date Video

Can I tell you we have the coolest brides and grooms? Molly and Max have a free wedding website with us and very sweetly sent us their (amazing) save-the-date video. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to share.

Save The Date :: April 23, 2011 from max and molly on Vimeo.

The two of them shot and edited the video entirely themselves in an afternoon! Yes, they are an uber-creative couple – they’ve started a blog documenting their time together and Molly has an album over on iTunes, but their video is one of those great examples of taking an idea and running with it (and proves a little creativity can really pay off when it comes to your wedding!).

Molly tells us how the video came about
We’ve known we wanted to shoot a video for our save the date but we weren’t sure what to do. We had been wanting to go to our local swap meet to see if we could find some things for our wedding (mason jars for flowers on the tables, vintage table cloths & native american inspired blankets for people to sit on during the ceremony) and the night before we just thought it would be fun to make a little sign, bring it with us and see if people would hold it up for the camera. The first couple people we asked said no to holding up the sign but then people started saying yes.

Max heard the song “Mr. and Mrs. Is the Name” by Dick Powell years ago on the radio and knew he wanted that song in his wedding. He sent it to me right after we got engaged (2 months ago today) and it was perfect for the video. We love thrift stores and vintage shops as well as swap meets and a lot of stuff we are using for our wedding will be purchased at thrift stores, vintage shops and swap meets so we loved the idea of incorporating that into our video. It kind of just came together really quickly. We only shot 6 minutes of footage that morning which made it a lot easier to edit that afternoon and have it ready to send out that night. Such a fun day!

And some background behind the video itself…
Max and I knew within a week of dating that we were going to get married but we wanted to keep the dating time special and enjoy that as well as enjoy the engagement time so we made a conscious effort not to talk wedding stuff until after we were engaged. SO, our way of getting around it was to say “Maybe someday we’ll be permanent neighbors.” And therefore started calling each other future neighbors instead of future husband and wife. That is why it says “Neighbor’s” at the beginning of the video.

The photo (chevron stripes) at the beginning and in the middle of the video is actually a painting from a great artist named Joanna Goss. I love Elsie Flannigan’s blog and I found that painting while I was reading the blog one day. I showed it to Max and we both thought it fit the theme & colors of our wedding so well so Max tracked down Joanna and asked if we could incorporate it in our wedding invitations. She said YES and my best friend who is one of the owners of Wiley Valentine is finishing up the design as we speak.
