Dear Nicole,
I find it quite hypocritical that you would highlight how to have an Earth/eco-friendly wedding alongside a contest to create a wedding dress out of toilet paper. I was aghast at the fact that people would be using such valuable resources as paper and trees to win a contest. While the dress is quite stunning and even [craftier than] last year's winner, I am very distraught that there would be such a parallel on your website.

Response:
Dear Caitlin,
You raise a good point. However, I must respectfully disagree. I would argue that making a dress out of toilet paper is more eco-friendly than many other things people do for entertainment these days. For one, toilet paper is completely biodegradable and if left in one's backyard overnight will disintegrate (as you may recall from your TP'ing days of Junior High). But I will add: we should have recommended post-consumer recycled toilet paper in this case, which cuts down on the use of virgin trees and harmful chemicals used in processing non-recycled toilet paper.
While we are advocates for lowering carbon emissions and overall human impact on the Earth, we are also big fans of good old-fashioned fun. And if someone is actually going to make a dress out of toilet paper and wear it--we think that is awesome! Besides, a toilet paper dress is definitely more Earth friendly than a lot of the conventional dresses made out of polyester materials.
Having said that, we also think it's a good idea to stay informed about your bathroom tissue. Luckily, the Natural Resources Defense Council has put together this list to help you choose your TP wisely.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Caitlin. As always we love to hear your questions, comments, praises and gripes. We'll do our best to address each and every one.
For Better or Worse,
Nicole {Matrimonial Maven}
