Home is Where the Wedding Is

Home weddings are increasingly more popular among couples today because they allow for a more personalized experience. Whether you choose to hold your wedding at your childhood home, at a home you and your partner own together, or at an estate of a friend or family member, there are some things you should consider:

First, you may need to prepare the property. Friends and family with green thumbs might be able to help, or enlist the services of a good landscape designer. You should plan for multiple visits and start immediately after you make the decision to tie the knot at home. You want to ensure your ceremony site is green and is filled with blooms that will be at their maximum at the time of the wedding. Treatment of the ground may be necessary before hand to ensure favorable blooms and a quality backdrop. Also, hedges and bushes should be well groomed.

Second, have a detailed plan. Be sure and meet with your planner and tent person a few times at the home or estate to go over how you will use the property the day of the wedding. Along with a great detailed plan be sure to have an alternative plan. Always have a plan B in case the weather doesn’t turn out they way you’d hoped.

Lastly, prepare for the inevitable. Don't forget a few of the essentials: You’ll want to rent port-o-potties. There are never enough bathrooms in a house to accomodate a huge crowd. Your plumbing will thank you! Another often overlooked detail are the neighbors. Invite them to the reception. Playing nice with the neighbors means happy neighbors and happy neighbors do not complain. And don’t forget to obtain the necessary permits for parking, noise, and street closures.

Home weddings generally come with a bit more stress than the wedding planned at an outside site, but the rewards can be huge!

HAPPY PLANNING!
