The Alternative Guest Book

Let’s face it, traditional guest books with a list of people’s signatures is flat out boring. My wife and I are very familiar with who we invited to our wedding because we worked for weeks on the guest list. If we wanted a boring book of all our guests’ names we could have simply saved the list my mother-in-law compiled of the RSVPs. Sure, we clearly remember who attended our big day because we got married just 7 months ago, but what happens to our tack sharp memory over the next 40 years? Most likely it will fade into a hazy blur in light of our future children’s soccer practices and slumber parties.

A hip and trendy alternative to the traditional boring guest book list is the new and improved Polaroid Guest Book! It’s ironic that something as old as Polaroid cameras (since 1947) are giving couples today such a fresh take on collecting wedding guest memories. I’ve been seeing it more and more lately. The guest book table is buzzing with the energy of the moments and people that only Polaroid cameras can capture and deliver on the spot. Let’s just admit it: Polaroids are awesome! Perhaps more than just because they provide instant gratification but also because Polaroid cameras are a bit like magic. I mean you shoot a picture, it pops out the front of the camera and everyone watches in amazement as the image materializes out of thin air!

All you need for your Polaroid guest book is a couple of Polaroid cameras, heaps of film, a sweet blank book, a couple of pens, some double sided magic tape, a friend to manage the chaos and Voila! You have awesome pictures and messages from the family and friends preserved for the rest of your lives. If you are hiring a photographer because you want to remember how your wedding day looked and felt then surely a Polaroid guest book is for you.

Warning: Contrary to the lyrics in the hit song by Outkast, shaking the Polaroid print can actually cause damage to the image. I tried telling that to a girl named Zoie at a wedding recently and her response was, “Nu-uh…My dad said!” Just read the directions on the box people.
