Planning Tip of the Week - A Goodies Buffet

Candy buffets can be a great centerpiece to any wedding. Cater the candy selections to the appropriate general age group of your guests.

If your guests were 80’s kid's they’ll probably be excited to see sweets like Reese’s Pieces and Nerds. Now, 90’s children would love them some Caramel Apple Pops and Watchamacallits!

Not only will your candy buffet be tasty, but conversations will spark at many levels. Candy tends to do that, just like a song or a scent. Childhood memories come back, and somehow everyone has a candy related story they want to share. Parents also get to tell their kids about the candy they used to enjoy when they were young.

You don't only have to use candy, try cookies or nuts or dried fruit even. A selection of goodies that fit your wedding theme will surely add a personal touch to your reception.

Create your table scape with a variety of containers, jars, dishes and scoops.

Don’t forget to label your containers and dishes!

    • I've been seeing this a whole lot lately and think it's a great idea. Pretzel's are also a very good idea for adults. I wish I would have thought about this for my wedding.

    • We've had many candy buffets at Villa Montalvo (www.montalvoarts.org) and they are often attacked by the adults long before the children even find the display. To save a little $ shop at Ross, TJMAX, Big Lots, etc. for all different sized glass bowls, jars, votive candle holders, etc. for candy bowls. Remember variety, not necessarily quantity, is what makes it so tantazlizing. It's a good idea to avoid soft chocolate covered candy so the wee ones are not running around with gooey hands. It's also very appealing to match the candy to your color scheme. Ask your caterer if they can provide you with ladles, large spoons, tongs, etc. so you don't need to buy them. Have fun and ask someone to make up special bags of sweets for the B/G to take to their hotel!

    • My sister did this at her wedding and it was a HIT! Kids and adults loved it- her wedding was pink and brown, so she got gumballs and chocolates and set up a "sweet dreams" table. It was very elegant and affordable. I think she got the gumballs at www.gumball.com, but I'm not sure about the chocolate.

      Try getting antique glass bowls- beautiful!
