  • This "giveaway" seems really suspicious, from the website (including google ads!), to the fact that you need to spend $19.95 for each "tiket" to win. But, they say it's not a raffle.
    
    Plus, I'm not convinced about the 27k average cost for "the basics"; the average is certainly skewed upwards by million-dollar celebrity weddings.

  • Ha where do you live? I'm in the Baltimore /Washington area and having a terrible time stayin in budget. I guess if your guest list is less than 100 people you can do it for 27K or less.

  • I agree..in Miami the average per head cost for wedding is anywhere from $89-$100 and thats only for reception catering in a local hotel - not one of the luxury resorts. And we're not talking everything else. Getting married in a church in Miami will run you at least $1200 - $1,000 if your a member!! If you have a big family, as I do, you can easily go over that average.

    Honestly, if you're spending 27K+ on your wedding, you really need help with planning. If you have the money to spend and already own your home and simply have the extra money to spend that on one day...Go For it! We have a mortgage and bills and our priorities are much different than that I guess.
    
    I can DEFINITELY plan an amazing event for under 10K and we live in a pretty expensive part of the country (Boston).
    
    We're dropping a lot of old fashioned "traditions" and planning a memorable, personalized and fun day that is about us.

With the troubles of having to find a home, now looking for almost a year, we decided to move upstairs from my parents so now we are ready to plan.   • They never say what channel the winners will be announced on and they will announce "on or about Dec. 20, 2009" when the deadline to enter ends at 11:59pm ET on Dec. 20th, seems fishy to me. Maybe I should get up a "giveaway" with fabulous prizes, it may just pay for my wedding.

    At the end of the day if you have expensive tastes on a regular basis, then you will find it difficult to cut corners and be frugal.
    
    I don't have to pay a fee for reception and wedding venues because they are being held on church grounds. My fiance's aunt caters and is doing that for us as a wedding gift. Our decorations will consist of lots of ribbons, candles, and fruit. The bouquets and floral arrangements will consist of white, orange, and green roses (and any other seasonal flower with those colors). We are inviting 350 people to the wedding. The table seetings (personalized vases with tea lights inside) are doubling as wedding favors the guests can take home. The church pianist and drummer are playing at the wedding and as a courteousy we're giving them a few hundred a piece; we are well aware that hiring a band would have been much more.
    
    Summarily, this has totaled an estimated $10K.

  • we're planning a wedding for probably around 300 guests and at the moment we're looking at under $3k for our entire thing. we're getting married in my mom's front yard with the reception in the back. our minister is my cousin, our photographer is the girl who was my baby-sitter as a kid and we're serving BBQ at the reception which is being made by family friends. the BBQ is only costing us $6/person for all you can eat, our photographer is charging us $300 and my brother who is a professional chef, is making our cake as our wedding present. my mom is handmaking 300 boxes for our favors and i'm making the invites. ladies from the church i grew up attending have already said they would make side dishes for the reception as well. at the most, including dress, flowers, tables, chairs and everything else we're looking at no more than $4 - $5k. it's a matter of knowing who to ask and looking for discounts. NOTHING has to cost the price you are quoted. look for coupons and negotiate. you'd be surprised at how many business owners would rather negotiate a good price with you than lose your business altogether.

  • I think $27,000 is very very high. Most weddings I have been have been $10,000 or under. In fact my wedding will be around $7500 and it will be top of the line. I will be having it in a Chapel located in a garden with the reception hall, food, staff, and trolley service included in the price. I will be spending $2000 on my gown attire because that is one of the focal points. The things we are cutting back are having no alcohol, and we will be having a small dinner, plus we will be making our own invitations & boutonnieres(I have won 7 best of fairs in art, & worked at a floral shop, so I know what I am doing). Plus I will even be having 2000 fresh flowers at my wedding and it will only cost me $400 because I am having them shipped in rather than getting them from a local florist.
    
    If you are creative you can have a beautiful wedding without all the extra cost. Spend the money were it will be seen the most like the location, Dress, and Cake, and people will assume you spent just as much on the other things. Sometimes the more creative weddings are the ones that people will remember the most!

  • For people that live at or near a major metropolitan city, such as in the New York/New Jersey area, good luck trying to have a wedding for $27,000. This would just cover the reception if you are lucky. People have no idea how expensive it is here. Moreover, many places will not negotiate with you - they will simply tell you "No" and move on to the next willing and eager couple.

    I think what you are doing is wonderful.
    Harry and I met on the internet 8 months ago. This is the second time around for both of us. We are both over the age of 50 and madly in love. Harry proposed on August 5, 2009 on a sunset cruise off the beach at Waikiki. In the middle of the dance floor he dropped to one knee, I asked him what was he doing and then he asked me to marry him. After I cried tears of joy, I said yes. Everyone on the cruise celebrated with us as the sunset into the Pacific.
    We want to win the $35,000 to take 18 guests (my mother, his 2 parents, my 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, 1 grand baby, his daughter and son-in-law, their son, his son and is girlfriend, his sister, her boyfriend, her son, Bestman and Maid of honor) back to Hawaii for a wedding. We dream of a small Hawaiian wedding on the beach in Makaha with a Luau for the reception in August of 2010.

  • Justin and I met under very strange circumstances, I was at the time in a relationship that was just not working out and had been over for a very long time. When I met Justin I had given up on love and actually fought very hard not to fall in love with him although I knew from day one. Well ten years later and a ton of hurdles we are still very much in love.   • About this contest: It is free, so why not put in your info and see what happens? About the wedding cost: I am getting married in Cincinnati, which is a pretty major metropolitan area. My wedding cost is $10k and I'm not sacrificing anything. Its a beautiful top of the line wedding at a resort(obviously not beach resort). Chair covers, beautiful flower centerpieces, great professional photography, 200 guests, awesome cake, beer, wine, full dinner,etc. You just have to look at ALL of your choices. The only thing I'm doing myself is making the invitations and programs. I never would've considered the place we're having it because they told me the price per person was $28.99 and that seemed way too expensive, but when I looked into what was included in that price (alcohol, food, linens including the chair covers, dance floor, tables and chairs, food for the cocktail hour) it cut thousands of dollars. My $10k price is even with a bunch of extras: a really nice limo with a flat screen HD TV inside and wet bar, a fine chocolates display for the cocktail hour, etc. All the other places were saying $13.50 per person plus a $1000 or more rental room fee, had to rent linens, had to buy alcohol separately, etc. Just don't stress out! Look around!

  • I think it is definitely possible to have a wedding under 27K - regardless of where you are. I am in the Boston area and am having a wedding with 200 people under 20K. Getting married at an estate and having a tented catered reception, amazing DJ, videographer, photographer, 20 person wedding party (kind of crazy lol) beautiful dress, getting hair and makeup done, all this for under 20K. You just have to be smart! My reception alone is costing me close to 12K, but that is for all of the food, the estate, the cocktail hour, ceremony, chair rentals, tables/linens etc. I'm ordering flowers through sams club online (check them out - great reviews and gorgeous) got a photographer who is just starting out in the wedding business, so is cheap to help build his portfolio, trying to cut costs where possible... It can happen! DIY is key - By doing my own flower bouquets, centerpieces, invites, programs and decorations, I'm saving thousands. It just takes a bit of research and patience, but you can make it happen.

  • My husband and I have been married for 6 years this december 22.My husband was in the navy for 7 years and we were married in Hawaii a quick pay 60 dollars and your married we did that so him and I could be able to live together in military housing.Now he is out of the navy and we want to renew our vows we want to have a halloween wedding something fun nothing to fancy just a fun time for everyone we want everyone to dress up in costumes but I don't even know where to begin we have 2 kids so most of all our money is gone by the end of the day so right now I am stuck at trying to figure this all out.

  • well me and my fiance are getting married on june 5th, 2010. It will be held in my moms backyard. Its gonna be beautiful, she has a fish pond, and lots of trees and flowers. We are making all the food ourselves and getting a cooler filled with beer lol. The most expensive part of our wedding is gonna be my dress, which was $700... not to bad. Our wedding will be around $2000. whoever says you have to spend $30,000 on one single day is nuts... i personally would rather save that money for my honeymoon =)

  • If your dream wedding is expensive then entering contests like this one is a good idea, but it's probably also a good idea to try and re-think your dream wedding, just in case you don't win.
    
    The wedding industry has done an incredible job of making us all think that we need these very specific fancy things (like chiavari chairs, crystal vases, peony boquets, designer gowns, etc.) when really, at the end of the day what's important is that you're going to be married!!!
    
    As brides (or grooms) to-be, we should all try to focus more on the marriage than the wedding, and then maybe we'll feel less pressure to spend money on things that won't realistically fit set budgets.
    
    Prioritize. For example, if the most important thing to you is having the people you love there, then make your guest list and then work backwards from there--- the people who love you won't care if you're serving chateaubriand or briskit--- or maybe cut corners by shopping for a vintage dress.
    
    But please, please, do not throw yourself a wedding that you know you can't afford! I doubt any of your guests (who are really the only reason for exepnses) want you to go into debt just so that your reception meets the standards set by the industry.
    
    Don't be afraid to think outside the box, whether it means "unconventional" location, dress, invitations, centerpieces or food. At the end of the day, you're married, just like millions of other people in the world, and that's a beautiful think in and of itself!

  • If your on a budget. For entertainment, check out the local colleges in your area. The music dept always has string bands, and you hire for cheap. I recently hired a 3man band to play classical music for the ceremony and cocktail hr for $150. It will make my event much more elegant.

  • As a wedding planner for the last 10 years i've seen a lot of different budgets and events. Where you live, and what you think of as 'fancy' also have a big affect on the cost of the event. My advice to everyone planning a wedding, espeically if you are on a budget is: HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER. or at least consult one at the beggining of planning. They'll point you in all the right directions and save you tons!

  • Wedding's dont have to be that expensive. A lot of people just get/want extras. Which every woman would love to have. But If you dont have it, you just dont have it!! At first I felt really sad because I cant have all the extras, and I told all my guest to eat before they come (Yeah I did). Then I realized I should be happy to just to have a wedding at all. And its only going to cost us 3,000.

  • i love reading these comments . . . . ladies; do what makes you happy! it's your day. heck i have no money - i have student loans up the butt, rent, car payment, you name it i gotta pay for it... and my fiance and i are paying for the majority of our wedding (mind you we are both college graduates and are being haunted by this so called recession)... and we don't want to take money out *but we might have to* on loan from the bank....

    do what you want
    spend what you can
    have fun doing it
    and remember
    ITS YOUR DAY... so splurge a little.
    don't forget to look online for deals, coupons, and use your time wisely. ebay. crafts and arts stores - yes DIY crafts take time (use your brides maids and family members...even if they are in a different state!), but you'll save a little bit of money. hopefully.

    PS - i moved from Philly to no mans land Virginia and although things are a little less expensive than up north, everything still takes the same amount of time and people.... don't forget to add taxes, fees, gratuities, and oh of course travel and food!
