Bradford and Amy first met at the Soul Bar in downtown Augusta, sometime in the early 2000s. He told her she looked just like Soleil Moon Frye (that's right, Punky Brewster). She asked him if that was meant as a compliment or an insult. Since Bradford was completely enamored with Ms. Frye, it was a compliment. Phew!
He asked Amy out shortly thereafter, but she had a boyfriend at the time. This scenario would reoccur off and on for the next few years until the Spring of 2006, when they finally started dating.
Little did Amy know, dating Bradford was about to become much more interesting. Just two months in, his then 6-year-old son, Thomas, came to live with him full-time. It was quite a transition for all of them, including their good friend, Drew, who let them rent rooms in his new house for a few months. The easy part was how quickly Amy loved Thomas and stepped into a stepmom role. Thomas quickly loved Amy too, taking his Dad's lead in affectionately referring to her as "Monkey," a nickname that still sticks.
After almost a year together, Bradford and Amy took a break, as many couples do. Amy moved in with her childhood friend and bridesmaid, Jenny, and spent six months on Gary Street, also known as the time of Cheers for Fears. Bradford and Thomas stayed in their apartment on Whitney Street, also known as the ugliest place Amy has ever lived (we're talking hunter green carpet, wood-paneled walls and a pink kitchen sink).
Of course, after several months apart, they both realized they wanted to be together. And they've been going strong ever since . . . well, except for the occasional bickering over who drank the last of the cranberry juice.
