We would like to take the opportunity of our wedding and the gathering of so many of our friends and family to help make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than us throughout the world. As we all come together to celebrate our marriage, together we can give other families in the developing world cause for celebration.
In lieu of favors on the tables at the reception, we have decided to make a donation to Room to Read. As well, we have also registered with Heifer International. Both of these great organziations are explained below in more detail with links to their websites included.
Of course none of our guests are expected to give gifts. Only your presence is requested, but if you do plan on giving us a gift we would ask that you consider spending 10% less on the gift and then donating that 10% to one of these organizations.
Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children's literature, constructing schools, providing education to girls and establishing computer labs. They seek to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education empowers people to improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries and future generations. Through the opportunities that only education can provide, Room to Read strives to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.
Heifer's Mission to End Hunger
Heifer envisions…
A world of communities living together in peace and equitably sharing the resources of a healthy planet.
Heifer’s mission is…
To work with communities to end hunger and poverty and to care for the earth.
Heifer's strategy is…
To “pass on the gift.” As people share their animals’ offspring with others – along with their knowledge, resources, and skills – an expanding network of hope, dignity, and self-reliance is created that reaches around the globe.
