Outdoors in Vermont (the best part of Vermont)

If you enjoy the outdoors, you will love Vermont. It is one of my favorite parts of growing up in Vermont, and the Vermont green-space has spoiled me for life. Hopefully, you will also fall in love with Vermont's picturesque beauty.

The Potholes

The Potholes

Bolton Valley Access Road

Bolton Valley, Vermont

This is one of the best swimming holes in Vermont. It's on the same road as our wedding and reception site at the bottom of the hill on the right hand side as you are pulling on the access road (off Rt. 2). There is a wider shoulder not even 400 m up the hill on the right where you can pull off. This swimming hole has one deep bowl of water where you can jump into the middle from surrounding giant rocks. There used to be a rope swing there. It's probably 10 ft. deep in the middle (so don't dive) and don't risk swimming here if it's rained a lot because it does have undercurrents. Below this hole there is a shallower, calmer area to swim that's easier to walk into and beautiful. So, feel free to swim before, after, and during our wedding (if it's hot), and then drive back up for more dancing after you've cooled off.

Camel's Hump

Camel's Hump

Governor Road

Huntington, Vermont

This is my favorite mountain ever. Anyone who knows me knows my obsession with this mountain is so strong that my Dad calls it "Caitie's Bump" because of my hiking disease. It looks like a camel's hump and you can see it from our wedding/reception site. It has spectacular views of the Green Mountains, the Adirondacks, White Mountains (the Presidential Range) and on a really clear day you can see up to the border of Canada. Burrow trail is 2.4 steep miles up, but the perfect distance for a hike, lunch, and back down before the day is gone. It will take you anywhere from 4-6 hours. It's best you give yourselves 6 hours so you don't miss our wedding! There are tons of trails and routes in addition to this one, so feel free to ask me for more routes (Long Trail South and North, Forrest City Trail, Monroe Trail).

TO TRAILHEAD: From Burlington, VT, take I-89 southeast for 10.3 miles to exit 11 and turn right on US 2. Go 1.6 miles and turn right on Bridge St. Go 0.6 mile and turn right on Huntington Rd. In 4 miles, continue straight on Main Rd. Go 4.9 miles and turn left on Camels Hump Rd. Continue 3.4 miles to the trailhead.
Camels Hump Rd. is a dirt road. You will cross a bridge and stay right at the "V" (winding with the farm on your right). Continue straight (there are 2 more turn-offs on your left you can ignore) and then you will cross 2 more bridges staying right again at the first V. You will continue up the hill further with sap lines on your left. Drive to the very top, which ends in a parking lot and the trail head is at the far end of the parking lot.
