It was the summer of 1981. Carolyn had just moved to St. Louis from the east coast and had a summer job working as a Kelly Girl at Whitmire Research Laboratories where Terry is a Chemist. Terry invited Carolyn to have lunch together and they decided their first date would be at the Shriner's Circus at Busch Stadium.
Carolyn still had two more years of college left in Springfield, MO. They had a long distance romance that included once-a-month visits on the weekend. Many late-night phone calls when the rates were less after 11pm.
Carolyn graduated and quickly moved back to St. Louis and moved into a great apartment in Dogtown. She worked two jobs in order to afford a new 1985 Dodge Colt she had her eye on.
Terry decided it was time to buy a home in the same town where he worked - Kirkwood. They moved in together in February 1986.
We decided to visit the local pub down the street for
St. Patrick's Day. It was Carolyn's first glass of green beer! Terry was describing how he was breaking the news of how they are "living together" in a letter he wrote to his mother.
Terry told Carolyn that in his letter he wrote, "We are living together and we are engaged."
Carolyn was a bit confused because she didn't know she was engaged. She asked Terry, "Where's the ring?" And the rest is history.......
