Cuban Guayabera

The wedding is on the beach, but bathing suits are really not suitable. A suitable suggestion is the Guayabera.

Guayaberas are flattering, comfortable, and fit all shapes and sizes . A guayabera is a traditional Cuban shirt. It’s also known as the Mexican wedding shirt.

Chad and his groomsman - Matt and Jamie, will be wearing white Guayaberas. The father of the bride and groom will also be wearing these shirts.

They are available from http://mycubanstore.com/ and through an agreement with the owner Alexis we will be bulk ordering guayaberas.

If you would like one for the wedding - please visit the website and let either of us know on or before October 24th, 2008 that you are interested.

We will place the order as a group. We can be reached through email, campbell_amym@hotmail.com, chadsonnenburg@hotmail.com or simply give us a call at home in the evenings - 705.865.1062.

We hope that you are as anxious about this trip as we are!
Talk soon,
Amy and Chad.

Surprise Stag and Doe

Massey Arena

Massey Arena

Our bridal party continues to surprise and amaze. Matt, Sheri, Jamie and Wendy orchestrated a fantastic 'tropical' Stag and Doe on our behalf.

We arrived to be greeted by over two hundred of our nearest and dearest friends and family. We were surprised to be presented with the most fantastic stag and doe tickets - the artwork is incredible! We were further surprised to be given a GIANT custom acrylic painted version of the ticket! J did an amazing job!

The evening was incredible, complete with an appearance by 'The Skidz' who performed later in the evening, the dancing and partying lasted all night and it was a truly memorable event.

The evening is also memorable for Chad as he had one of his eyebrows removed in honour of Uncle Buck - Tiffany and Auntie Jacqui removed Chad's eyebrow and a toast was had to Uncle Buck.

There are pictures to be found in the 'photo gallery'.

What a great event! Special Thanks to:

Matt, Sheri, Wendy, and Jamie - our wedding party
Our families, the Campbell's and the Sonnenburg's
The Skidz for thier fantastic performance
J. for the painting

Surprise "White Linen" Shower

took place at Angela Campbell's home

took place at Angela Campbell's home

Espanola, Ontario

Early in the summer, Sheri and Wendy asked that I keep Sunday August 31, 2008 open for the date of my wedding shower - these ladies were very sneaky and I cannot believe the event that was held. Their efforts were incredible, they executed the entire event perfectly.

On Sunday morning I was joined at my house by my dear lifelong friend Lacey Mowry. Together we curled each other's hair, put on makeup and got ready for the big event. It was reminiscent of many high school dances in the past. Lacey was my chauffeur and I arrived to the party around two o'clock.

I was astonished there were about 50 people in attendance, the kitchen was overflowing with amazing food, the bar was fully stocked, and the number of gifts was too numerous to count. People came from all over for this truly memorable event. I was thrilled to see my soon-to-be family , my family, friends, and coworkers (who are also dear friends) – there were many laughs when I spilt an entire glass of red wine down my back.

As I had known about the event in advance, I planned a special portion of the day to recognize my three mothers. I felt that this was as much their day as it was mine. I presented each of them with a special gift to my second mom, Alta - a figuring representing our time together; to my soon to be mother, Lizzy - a painting representative of 'family'; and to my mother Angela - her final precious moment from me. There wasn't a dry eye in the yard. Sorry for the mascara messes ladies.

Sheri and Wendy truly outperformed. The games were short, sweet and to the point - in classic styling *wink*. The decor was simply stunning and mom's yard looked incredible.

Thank you for a truly memorable day. My linen closet is completely full - and my heart is full of fantastic memories.

The Wine Ladies - An event in Amy's honour!

Alta Campbell's Backyard

Alta Campbell's Backyard

Over a glass of wine in mid July, I was bellyaching to Alta; quite a regular event, the reason being that Chad was insistent about me staying home to entertain on the weekend of July 26th. I was sad that staying home meant that I would miss Joanne’s bachelorette party. Alta then said “don’t be so hard on him – you are expected to be here on the 26th”. Immediately I replied “HERE?” Alta then went on to explain that the wine ladies were getting together in my honour for a pool party. I tried to hide my excitement and went home to make dinner.

The afternoon of July 26th was fantastic the weather looked dodgy, but the clouds soon parted and we were under the warm sun for the afternoon. When I arrived I was thrilled to be joined by the entire ladies complement of the wine club, my mother, my future mother in law, my bridesmaid Wendy and her beautiful new baby girl Cassandra. I was also thrilled to see that a second guest of honour was present – Jane Barnes, an aesthetician who was providing pedicures for the ladies – and myself too!

The ladies certainly outperformed themselves; everyone enjoyed an afternoon of swimming, hot tubing, gourmet appetizers, and Alta and Liz C’s world famous margaritas. When the pedicures were done, and a few margaritas had been slung, I was showered with gifts of wine and more. The ladies of the day were certainly generous and creative. Each bottle of wine was given a purpose for its opening. Reasons included, our first month wedding anniversary, an evening of reflection on the wedding, the day we begin construction on our new home on the river, our seventh wedding anniversary, a day that we need good luck, and numerous other reasons.

We had a few celebratory toasts, and our evening continued with a tour of Italy dinner accompanied by several bottles of fantastic wine. I took the liberty of posting pictures in the photo gallery of our wedsite.

Thank you to the wine club for my first pre-wedding celebration. It certainly was a fantastic time!

Cheers!

Passport Invitations

The process for completing the passport invites has been filled with excitement, blood, sweat and tears. Our dear friends Michael and Tracey Forbes have executed the perfect theme, their talent knows no bounds. The design process spanned over a few afternoons and a few bottles of vino tinto! Their excitement for the wedding brought forward the finished design and theme.

The passport and travel theme continues and our dear friends Mike and Tracey have taken their own passports and have moved to Scotland. We wish them the best of luck and hope that our passport invitations can land them on the sunny beaches of Varadero to share in the joy of our marriage.

We cannot wait to hear your feedback on the most fantastic wedding invitations we have ever laid our eyes on; maybe we are a wee bit biased.

Why are the Save the Dates and Wedding Invitations being sent out so early?

We have been asked this question a few times. We wanted to give advance notice to our guests so that everyone interested in travelling to Varadero could make the necessary arrangements (i.e. book vacation at work, obtain a passport, save money, determine childcare arrangements, etc.). The group rate is guaranteed until July 31, 2008, so don't forget to book your deposit before then!!

We plan to post the names of those guests who will be traveling with us to Varadero after July 31, 2008. Visit this site in July to see who will be joining us!

Wedding Dress Shopping Success!

The Dressroom

The Dressroom

Danforth

Toronto

The quest for the dress actually began on February 16, 2008, with Alta’s “Dress Shopping Tote and list”, a pair of full bottomed underpants, and the four most important women in my life, my entourage. My mom Angela, my second mum Alta, my sister Sheri and my best friend Wendy; we started out into the wonderful world of “Wedding Dresses”. I had a feeling that finding the perfect wedding dress would be more difficult than finding a pair of full bottomed underpants.

The first dress I tried on was gorgeous, staring at myself in a near 360 degree mirror, I thought, “WOW. This is… Me, in a wedding dress”. Without reaction, I waited for my mother to cry. She didn’t. Many more gowns followed, Alta loved everything, Sheri captured every moment on film, Wendy gave approving and disapproving nods, and my mother still barely reacted. Slowly, I started to like the idea of a wedding gown, I started to love all of the lace, silk, tulle, beads, sparkles and veils. I didn’t even mind the woman who laced me so tight I could barely breathe, but who also offered me the smallest waist I have ever seen.

With no luck in the city of Sudbury, on April 5 we made our way to Toronto’s popular wedding dress-tination – The Danforth; and yes Alta came too! We waited outside for the The Dressroom to open, we were approached by a bubbly sales woman who pointed at what I’d like to call, the holy grail of destination wedding gowns. Like lightning, I attacked the rack, pulling off nearly every gown I saw, I thought they could all be "the one". I then noticed my 'entourage' handing off many many dresses to the sales consultant. I watched in amazement how they were all examining gowns and whispering about how I would look in each of the gowns.

After trying on many dresses and explaining to the consultant my likes and dislikes, she whisked away; I heard her say under her breath "I know what we are looking for". Upon her return, I jumped into the final gown of the day, and I stood there silently for a moment until I burst into tears, I knew I`d found “the one” - and in a flash the consultant was above me, pinning a veil into my hair. I turned to my mother who giggled, gasped, blotted her eyes and nodded with approval. It was moments later that we were all crying with excitement. That was the reaction I had been waiting for.

I’ve decided that wedding dresses are like fiancés – they aren’t always what you thought you’d end up with, but your mother always knows when it’s the perfect fit, and when you've found "the one".

Save the Date Boarding Passes

By now you should have received our "Save the Date" boarding passes and our engagement photo. Instead of having a wedding colour, using the advice and guidance of our talented and dear friends, Michael and Tracey Forbes we have a theme, obviously travel.

The feedback we have received from our friends and family has been fantastic. Shortly after the boarding passes were sent, we received a call stating “Well, I didn’t realize that you guys were paying my way to Cuba!” to that Amy replied “good luck with getting on the plane” tee hee hee!
