Chad and Sarah met in a J-term course at Gettysburg seminary. Our friend Marianne invited us both to lunch and we ended up talking and getting to know each other. A week and a half later, we had our first date in State College, PA. Chad walked Sarah around the campus of his alma mater and then took her to get ice cream at the Penn State Creamery (the best ice cream EVER). The rest, as they say, is history.
Chad and Sarah met about a month after Sarah had submitted her paperwork to the church to be placed for her first call as a pastor. Her first choice was to be in the Midwest. After being assigned to North Dakota, we talked about what it would be like to date long-distance. We knew that being apart would be hard, but Chad optimistically pointed out that we had a lot more potential for seeing each other in fun locations. After Christmas, we visited Sarah's parents in Florida and hopped down to EPCOT for a day of fun. We also saw each other in Minneapolis so that Chad could go to one of his fantasy shopping places: Legoland! But so far, most of our visits have been in ND and PA.
Chad came to visit in Carrington for Easter weekend and woke Sarah up on Saturday morning by making Cinnamon Chip French Toast. He asked if she knew what today was, and in her groggy early-morning brain, all she could think of was that it was tax day. As it turned out, it was the fifteen-month anniversary of our first date, on the fifteenth of the month. Chad told Sarah that he had something for her and darted out of the room. He came back, told her to close her eyes, and when she opened her eyes, he was on one knee with a ring in his hand, asking her to marry him. We spent the rest of the day calling the family to tell them that we were engaged.
