Oldest Sister of Bride. Her official title is "sex goddess of honor," because she doesn't like the term "matron." No one can blame her. Plus she's not at all matronly. She's the one on the right.
Middle Sister of the Bride, and conveniently located in the middle of the picture. Karen is delightful. But even more delightful is how much support and thoughtfulness she's given as Chad and Sarah started dating and got engaged. Karen is a nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Camp Mount Luther is at the foundation of Chad and Zach's friendship. After several years of working together, Chad and Zach can pretty much read each other's thoughts. Zach moved to Arizona in last year and serves as the resident camp director at a YMCA camp. Zach has been an important friend to both of us and we are so excited to have him be a part of the wedding. We're also thinking about kidnapping him so he can't go back to Arizona, but don't tell.
Dave and Chad have learned during their friendship that they have a lot in common. Dave just graduated with a Master of Arts in Religion degree at Gettysburg Seminary (the same degree Chad is working towards) and studied at Yale Divinity School. He hails from Baltimore, MD and began to work full-time in May at Mount Luther. The two believe they are "brothers with different mothers."
Sister of Groom. We've struggled over what Cheryl's title in the wedding should be. Groomswoman? Breast man? The jokes are never-ending. But neither is the support that both she and her husband, Alex, have given, so we're both thrilled to have them as part of our wedding party. Cheryl has a new job as of this summer in State College, PA, as the director of an autism school.
Alex became Chad's one and only brother-in-law last year when he married Chad's sister. Alex has been a great addition to the Hershberger family. He will be changing jobs this summer and he and Cheryl relocate.
Friend of Bride. Sarah can safely say that Michelle is the only person that she's ever had a dream about before ever meeting. After Rick told Sarah that he was getting married, she dreamed that she met Michelle and that they became fast friends. Turns out--Sarah's dream came true and it only took a couple months for them to become fast friends. (This is the only picture that exists in the world with the two of them together. Michelle is on the far left.)
Kelsey is just about the best niece a person could ask for. Sarah met her on the day she was born and she has been one of the most special people in he life ever since. Sadly, at nearly fifteen years old, she's also taller than Sarah. :) Kelsey is (officially!) a sophomore in high school.
Friend of Bride. Kristin and Sarah also met at Luther and got to be really good friends when Sarah was traveling for her job. Now that she's in seminary, she and Sarah seem to talk more and more often. It's hard to believe that this picture is ten years old! But that's the fun of friendships that have lasted the test of time. Kristin is about to be a senior seminarian, venturing into the land of her first call as a pastor.
Friend of Bride. Emily and Sarah have known each other since their sophomore year at Luther and have been friends ever since. She's been on the list to be a bridesmaid since before Chad and Sarah got engaged. She is also the crafting queen spending many weekends with Sarah working on crafts and, of course, shopping. But more important than any of that is the constant support she has given in so many areas of Sarah's life. Emily serves as the Artistic Administrator at the Hartford Stage Company in Hartford, CT. Because of her position, she knows quite a few famous people and has lots of good stories to share.
Friend of Bride. Matt and Sarah met during their freshman year at Luther and share lots of great memories together of almost fifteen years of friendship. He has the unique distinction of being the only guy on the bride's side--so do we call him a bridesman?
Seth and Chad have known each other since Chad's days on summer staff at Mount Luther. When Chad moved out on his own, he was near Seth and his family who took him under their wing (and fed him lots). Chad was honored to stand up at Seth and his wife, Heather's, wedding and we are pleased to have him in ours. Seth is a computer teacher at a local school district.
Chris and Chad met at Mount Luther. Chris worked on staff for several years until he had to go out into the "career world." He is part of Chad's camp gang who get together frequently to hang out and who have been great welcoming Sarah "in the mix," as Chris would say. Chris works in the office at a local supermarket warehouse.
Rick and Chad went to high school together and then were roommates at Penn State for four years where they watched movies, stayed up late talking into the wee hours of the morning, and studied (usually in that order!) Rick works for his family business, a trucking company, in Chad's hometown. The picture is from Rick's wedding in 1994 before Chad had contacts (and Rick had kids).
Rick was Sarah's Greek professor during seminary and after lots of long hours with the Monday Night Dinner Group (shown here) became a wonderful friend. We're so excited to have him officiate.
Marsh met Chad through ties to Camp Mount Luther, but endeared himself to Sarah when they discovered their North Dakota connection! We're both thrilled to have Marsh be a part of our wedding, especially because he's already given us sound advice regarding our footwear for the day. Marsh is currently the campus pastor for Lutheran Campus Ministry at Penn State which Chad was involved in during his college days.
Chad worked with Bob when both were employed by the Northumberland County (PA) Commissioners. During that time, they became good friends and Chad got to know the whole Delbo clan- Bob's wife, Kim, and his children Robert and twins Gabe and Abby. This photo is over five years old- the kids have grown quite a bit since then. We are glad to be able to include the whole family as greeters on our wedding day.
